My women are my cultivation

Chapter 33: Heartbeat

  • Next Chapter

Zhao Wen received a message through a letter.

Her inky black eyes widened when she read the content.

"What? Sect Master is returning!!"

...

The verification square emptied slowly, and Lin Tian walked the edge of the path with Su Qingxue half a step ahead.

Now that the verification was over, the dual thread between them sat open and settled quietly, not frantic.

Gu Shen caught up with a steamed bun in each hand and the look of a man who had decided to spread the news as far as he could.

"Brother Lin, Sister Qingxue. The rails are already inventing versions!

My favourite is the one where the sensing jade was bribed with spirit stones. I asked who I should invoice."

Su Qingxue’s mouth twitched; she did not slow down.

"Well, you should not encourage them."

"Heh heh, I encourage nothing. I only refuse to starve."Gu Shen shoved one bun at Lin Tian’s nose, not his mouth.

"Eat, brother, eat. Also, someone near the token hall is yelling that the Sect Master is coming back from seclusion. You see the timing, brother, timing."

"You once asked me about her. I remember, but that time I didn’t know much! Also today I don’t know either, but she’s coming. We’ll see her soon."

Lin Tian took the bun from his hand and wiped his face with Qingxue’s robes.

Sect Master is coming?

He had heard the title on the mountain before. Peak closed doors; half the outer court had never seen the face.

The rumor did not hand him a name. It only made people walk straighter, as if the slope itself had leaned closer to listen.

Curiosity sat in his chest without a shape. Whoever sat at the summit was not his problem until the main hall opened.

Mid Foundation and a clean verification mark were enough for one morning.

There was the third day of the competition too. He wanted to prepare for one last fight.

They split near the cistern. Qingxue toward the women’s side. Gu Shen toward whatever complaint he would invent next.

Lin Tian toward the third-row path until a junior with ink on his fingers found him and held out a belt token like a shield.

"Outer disciple Lin Tian. Elder Zhao Wen requires the verification cloth acknowledged in person. At once."

Gu Shen, already three steps away, turned back just long enough to raise both eyebrows.

"Acknowledged in person? Heh heh heh, brother! Try not to start a fourth incident before noon."

Lin Tian took the token. The residual thread that had never fully left his meridians since the night of sorted robes pulled taut the moment her name was spoken: thin, stubborn, warmer than daylight allowed.

He went towards the ledger hall.

...

The ledger hall was quieter than the field.

Most outer disciples were still pressed to the rails or inventing stories. The inner panel was already half-drawn.

Zhao Wen sat behind the low table with the marked cloth under one hand and a folded letter under the other. Dark hair in its practical coil.

Outer robe neat at first glance until the lamp light caught the way the fabric sat over her chest, full and heavy enough that the line of her body refused to stay purely official.

Ink-warm eyes lifted when he entered.

"Close it."

He closed the path-side panel. The residual thread hummed louder in the smaller space.

"I see. The verification is clean," she muttered without preamble.

"Deacons have marked stability and balance. Your pure-Yin girl held quite nicely. The Pavilion file gains no new interesting note today."

After a brief pause she added, "The verification reports and the clothes go on the outer board before the afternoon clusters. Unofficially, the Zhao line will remember the shape of this morning for a long time."

Lin Tian inclined his head. His gaze, however, did not stay on the cloth.

It drifted a little.

The practical coil of her hair left the line of her throat bare. The robe was closed, but the weight under it was obvious; full breasts that the ledger work had never managed to make small, the soft press of fabric against curves that belonged on a woman who looked like she would fulfill a man’s dreams completely.

Narrow waist where the sash sat. The suggestion of hips under the desk edge. Warm adult undertone to her skin in the lamp light.

Tired in a way that made the residual thread between them feel less like Charm leftover and more like unfinished hunger.

Zhao Wen’s fingers rested on the folded letter. Summit seal broken. Sect Master is returning. However, she did not offer him the paper.

"There is another matter," she murmured quieter.

"Sect Master returns from seclusion. Outer disciples will stand present when the main hall opens. No date beyond soon. Don’t confuse a clean verification with the attention that kind of order brings."

Lin Tian heard the words. The dual core turned once under the lock, curiosity without a face, and then his eyes slid again, almost without permission, down the open line of her collar to the soft shadow between her breasts where the robe had shifted when she leaned forward.

The residual thread pulled hard.

He remembered the desk. The Charm and the outline she had watched in his pants.

The way her Yin had leaned and then cut. Mid Foundation sat denser in him now. The core could take more.

The thought of spending that density on something other than combat brackets sat sudden and clear in his chest.

Zhao Wen’s ink-warm eyes narrowed just a fraction.

"What are you looking at?"

The question came even. Under it, something else flickered that wasn’t anger.

The kind of awareness that made a woman straighten without meaning to, that made her wish the lamp were dimmer and the residual thread less honest.

Lin Tian did not look away at once.

Full chest under practical cloth. The soft give he could almost feel without touching.

Dark hair that would come down if someone pulled the coil free. Mouth that had almost smiled the night she told him most outer disciples forgot the desk.

The residual of her Yin still in his meridians, and his Yang still marked on hers whether she put it in the ledger or not.

"Uh, the cloth," he said softly.

"The cloth is on the table. Your eyes are not." She felt her heartbeat.

Heat climbed the back of her neck. She kept her face steady. Inwardly the thought landed messy and unwanted.

He is staring, he can see, the residual is too loud in this room, I should have fastened the collar higher, I should circulate, I should not be noticing how steady his breathing has become.

She tapped the marked cloth once with a fingernail instead.

"The afternoon clusters continue. Go fight if your name is called. Go sit with your pure-Yin girl if it is not.

When the main hall summons the outer court, stand where you can be seen."

Her voice stayed even. "And if whatever is left between us becomes a problem under summit attention... we will deal with it before the peak does."

Lin Tian’s gaze finally lifted to her eyes.

The dual core turned. Mid Foundation pressure sat ready. Charm had almost taken him once in this hall. He had walked out toward a second-bell promise.

"Elder Wen...." He started to speak.

"Go."

He didn’t say anything more and turned toward the panel.

Behind him she did not immediately circulate. The lamp light sat on the line of her neck; for a breath she pressed her thighs together under the desk without allowing her expression to change.

Shy in a way the ledger would never record, irritated at herself for it, aware that the mixed-root outer had looked at her like the cloth was the least interesting thing in the room.

Lin Tian stepped onto the path.

Afternoon light, cluster bells, and Gu Shen’s voice somewhere down the slope.

The residual thread still hummed toward the ledger hall. He could hear faint mutterings of disciples.

He walked, Mid Foundation qi steady under his ribs, and the thought settled clean and shameless in the space the dual core opened:

Hah. Tomorrow. Tomorrow I will come back to the ledger hall with the residual still alive between us. And I will spend the denser weight of the core on seduction instead of combat!

My every pull of Yang will have to make her Yin answer. I’ll have to make her give up without her permission.

I’ll claim Elder Zhao Wen tomorrow, not only because I like her, or I’m developing feelings.

Because I need it right now. Now that the verification is over, Zhao Yiran will probably ask her brother’s help. Who knows what that proud bastard will do.

I’ll have to become stronger to save Qingxue from this mess. I’ll have to reach peak Foundation.

And Elder Zhao Wen is the only one who can help me reach peak Foundation in one night.
