Chapter 1813 The Shield Or Body (Part 1)

Chapter 1813  The Shield Or Body (Part 1)

The red mist began to ooze out of Unzoku’s body in a thick, suffocating cloud, though at first, it didn’t seem to trigger a massive physical transformation. Instead, his muscles simply looked as if they were bulging slightly larger, the fibers tightening under his skin.

The deep, jagged wound that Lupus had carved into his torso earlier began to change; the flesh was conflating and almost bubbling with a sickening, rapid movement. Within seconds, the bubbling subsided and the skin returned to normal, as if there had been no wound at all left on his body.

What was even more of a strange sight to see was the reaction of the area around where Unzoku was standing. The few remaining pieces of grass that had survived the battle began to almost die on the spot, turning a sickly grey and slumping over themselves as if the very life was being sucked out of the earth.

“Are you even like us?” Lupus asked, his voice strained as he readjusted his grip on his shield. “You seem like you're not even from our world.”

“Didn’t I tell you?” Unzoku spoke, and his voice was even deeper and rumbly than before. It was a terrifying sound, almost as if several low-pitched voices were speaking in unison from within his throat. “The world you know is incredibly small!”

Unzoku kicked off from his feet with explosive power. The red mist seemed to explode behind him like a jet thruster, as if he were drawing some type of foreign, energy-like power from somewhere else entirely. When he wound up his arm, ready to swing his hand, Lupus knew he needed to get his full body weight behind his shield. Just holding it in place wouldn't be enough to survive this level of force, so he kicked off the ground and charged forward as well to meet the impact.

‘I need to reinforce my body with Qi as well,’ Lupus thought grimly. ‘This looks like it’s going to hurt!’

Not caring whether his hand hit the shield or not, Unzoku slammed his fist ahead. A wave of pulsating energy went outward, now mixed in with the strange red mist. The shield had successfully blocked the physical contact of the attack, but something strange occurred with the punch.

Lupus let out a sharp cough, and a spray of blood came from his mouth as he gasped in sudden pain. The force of the power appeared to almost go through the shield itself, bypassing the physical barrier and hitting his body like a relentless wave of pressure.

“You keep blocking with that damned shield! I’ll just fucking break it!” Unzoku roared. “But I think your body will break before the shield does!”

Unzoku followed up by kicking the shield with his large foot. The anchor skill made it so Lupus didn't go flying backward, keeping him pinned to the spot. But when Lupus was ready to try and counter-attack, he realized Unzoku was already by his side.

‘He’s not just stronger... he’s faster as well.’

Lupus’s wrist had already been grabbed. He had already used the anchor skill to stop the previous kick, and though it had a quick cooldown, it wasn't quite fast enough for this pace. Unzoku lifted Lupus by the wrist with terrifying ease and then slammed him right into the ground. Lupus hit the floor with a bone-jarring thud, landing hard on his back.

Lupus needed to get up and fast; he knew that the ground was the worst place to be against a monster like this. But just as he was about to move, he saw a massive fist heading right for his face. Just in time, he managed to heave the shield up, placing it in between him and Unzoku’s knuckles.

The fist slammed into the shield, and the ground beneath Lupus was seen breaking into a massive crater. It didn't just break once; the sheer power of the blow made part of the ground snap three separate times as the shockwave continued to travel through the earth. Lupus coughed out even more blood than before, his internal organs rattling from the vibration.

“You said I was stupid?” Unzoku asked, his eyes burning with malice as he threw out another fist, crashing it into the shield again. Each time the blow landed, the whole pain and attack went right through the metal and into Lupus’s body.

“Is that what you said? I don’t learn!” Unzoku snarled. He continued to punch, delivering fist after fist, hitting the shield with the rhythm of a sledgehammer. “You seem to know something, right? About how I lost to those idiotic brothers... and you thought I would have stayed the same as back then?”

Lifting both of his hands high above his head, Unzoku slammed them down together in a double-fist strike. Due to the sheer force of the attack, Lupus’s legs were lifted up off the ground and came crashing back down again from the vibration.

“I am never the one being controlled! I will always survive, and make sure I’m the one that comes out on top!” Unzoku screamed, his voice multiple tones at once. “I am part of those that can change destiny!”

Unzoku slammed his fists down again, and small cracks were starting to appear in the surface of the shield. Although Lupus was still being hurt by the attacks traveling through the barrier, his shield had been taking away some of the direct damage. If he were to be hit directly with these large blows without the shield in the way, he wasn't sure how long he could survive.

“Let’s see which one will survive sooner,” Unzoku claimed, his fists rising for another strike. “This shield, or your life!”
