Chapter 1572: Breaking the Luna
Chapter 1572: Breaking the Luna
Jack had been keeping the warhammer by his side for a long time, but if he was honest with himself, it was never something he particularly liked using. It wasn’t that he couldn’t handle it, Jack could wield nearly anything, but he much preferred his giant greatsword. That weapon felt like an extension of his own body. The hammer, though, always felt heavy, not just in weight but in responsibility.
Still, there was a reason why Jack rarely used it, and with the situation turning into what it was now, he had no choice but to call upon its strength. Quickly, the skies above the mountain darkened as if the world itself could sense what was about to happen. A low hum of energy spread through the air, and then a violent surge of power rushed through his entire body.
A visible aura started to wrap around Jack like a storm. It pulsed along his skin, crawling down his arms, and soon began coating the weapon itself. His armor flickered with faint blue light, the hammer trembling slightly as if it too was waking up.
Then, with both hands gripping the handle tightly, Jack swung the warhammer with everything he had. The edge of the massive weapon crashed straight into Rogan’s gigantic skeletal hand.
The collision was deafening. The two forces of power meeting head-on created a rumble that shook the entire mountain. The beasts in the nearby forest fled instantly, and even the regular animals, the ones that had grown used to the presence of Werewolves, scattered in panic.
Those living far in the distance could feel the tremor echoing through the ground beneath their feet. To them, it sounded like thunder, like a storm had cracked open the sky above. The power leaking from the clash sent waves of energy rolling outward, strong enough to sting the faces of the Werewolves who were watching nearby.
Dust and debris swirled up around them. The sheer force of the impact felt like the breath of something ancient and wild.
In the end, it was Jack who stood tall. The energy from his swing had lifted Rogan’s enormous arm clean into the air. Of the two, there was one clear victor in that instant. Rogan’s monstrous hand had been thrown back, the white bone plating across it splintering and cracking.
For the first time since he’d transformed, the great Alpha had been forced backward.
In the middle of his hand being tossed up, the cracks were already starting to heal, but the blow had created an opening, one that Jack was ready to take advantage of.
‘That warhammer managed to make Jack strong enough to do that!’ Steve thought, wide-eyed as he looked down at the shield in his own hand. He was starting to wonder if he had chosen the wrong weapon entirely. The hammer radiated with unbelievable power, and even Rogan, in his strange True Alpha form, a giant Werewolf covered in bone, had lost in a contest of pure strength.
Steve could finally move again, but now doubt clawed at him. Would he even be able to help in this kind of battle? He watched Jack charge in again, the air crackling around him, until suddenly a spear of white light was thrown from above, and struck Jack square in the chest.
Even with all of his power, even with the energy rushing through his veins, Jack froze in place. His body stiffened, his eyes locked forward, unable to move an inch.
The opening he had earned was gone in a single instant. Rogan had already regained his balance, and now bone began to erupt from his hands again, growing out from his fingertips until it encased his entire clawed fist. Energy pulsed through his arm like veins of light.
‘I have to get rid of her!’ Steve thought, his teeth gritting. ‘Jack can take Rogan, but that little thing sitting on his shoulder, that Luna, is the real problem!’
He bolted forward, his claws digging into the ground. The sound of his feet pounding against the cracked stone echoed like drums. Ahead of him, Rogan swung his giant arm in a wide arc.
Jack leapt over it, cutting the air cleanly. His body moved faster than the eye could follow. While airborne, he swung his hammer again, not physically connecting this time, but channeling its energy through the air.
A wave of invisible force blasted outward, striking Rogan’s arm like a hammer of wind. The limb slammed against the ground, the impact shaking the mountain once more. Cracks spread beneath Rogan’s feet.
Jack landed on the arm and began running up it, his armor glowing faintly with each step.
At the same time, Steve had already leapt upward from the opposite side, claws scraping across the bone surface as he climbed. His heart thundered in his chest, the world around him fading until only one figure filled his vision, the Luna.
Her white eyes glowed faintly, unreadable, calm even as chaos exploded around her.
“I’ll kill you first,” Steve shouted, voice raw, “and then Jack will take out Rogan for himself!”
He didn’t know if she could hear him or not, but he shouted anyway, forcing his own courage into words. Because deep down, he knew she wouldn’t be easy to take by surprise. Even now, she could strike him down with that spear of hers and freeze him just like Jack.
But strong powers like hers always came with limits. Steve knew that much. If she was using the spear’s ability on him, she couldn’t use it on Jack at the same time, and that was enough of an advantage.
He swung his arm forward, releasing an energised claw strike. The glowing slash tore through the air, bright blue against the grey sky.
The Luna moved with precision, swinging her hand through it and breaking the energy apart, but Steve’s attack was strong enough to make her stumble backward, even if just for a second.
That second was all he needed.
He pushed off with all his strength, leaping high into the air, the pointed end of his shield gleaming. His muscles screamed as he brought it down toward her face.
He saw the spear move and braced himself. He didn’t care if he got hurt. Even if it killed him, it didn’t matter. As long as Rogan fell, the pack would live on. Jack would see to that.
But instead of aiming at him, the Luna turned her head slightly. Without even looking, she threw the spear to her side.
The weapon spun through the air and hit Jack perfectly, the light wrapping around him once again, freezing his movements completely.
Steve’s eyes widened in disbelief. She hadn’t even needed to aim. He didn’t realize until that moment that she possessed foresight, that she could see what was coming before it happened.
But it was too late for her to save herself.
Steve’s shield drove forward, piercing straight into the side of her head. The sound was sharp and final. Her body went limp instantly, the white glow fading from her eyes.
