My Werewolf System

Chapter 1355 - 1355: All We Can Do

The sun was shining brightly when, slowly, Xin began to open her eyes. Turning her head to the side, she spotted a green-haired man lying there peacefully, still fast asleep.

Reaching over to the side table, she grabbed her phone and checked the time.

“Gary, wake up. Wake up! It’s two in the afternoon,” Xin said.

Sure, they had gone to bed relatively late, but she never expected both of them to sleep for this long. Xin could only remember sleeping in this late back when she was a teenager.

“Are we being attacked?” Gary mumbled.

“Well… I guess we’re not being attacked, so I think things are fine. At least for today. Otherwise, Kai would have said something, right?”

Deciding to get up, Xin stretched.

“I’ll make you a coffee and some breakfast, and check with Kai if everything’s all right.”

“Thank you,” Gary replied weakly. He still felt groggy and exhausted from his transformation. What he was thankful for, though, was how much he was being pampered.

The only person who had ever cooked or done things for him was his mother, and even then, her work schedule had rarely allowed it when they were kids.

After getting changed, Xin entered the main room and was surprised to see Kai already in an apron, busy cooking.

He even had the coffee machine running, the rich aroma filling the space. Xin was quite taken aback by the scene.

“I could hear you two getting up, you know,” Kai said as he worked at the stove. “Both of you, especially you, Xin, since you’re still new to this, should get used to keeping your heightened senses active at all times.”

He continued, flipping the food with ease.

“The smell of eggs or toast should have been a giveaway, even if you weren’t a special.”

“And if you learn to always have those heightened senses on, and how to manage them, you can sleep peacefully while staying aware if anyone is approaching.”

Kai began to drop food from the frying pan onto three plates. Steak and eggs, a staple in a werewolf’s diet.

“Don’t worry. I know you two were up late last night, which is why I let you both sleep in.” Kai smiled knowingly.

Immediately, Xin covered her face and turned away, cheeks burning. She had completely forgotten about everything Kai had said last night, including that he’d been right outside the room. In the moment, she had been far too caught up to care.

“We’re all adults,” Kai said. “And it’s good you two got to connect. We deal with dangerous stuff every single day, sometimes for years without a break. We need moments to ourselves too. Even yesterday wasn’t exactly a good day for us.”

“It’s good the two of you were able to relax.” Kai gave them a reassuring look.

Shortly after, Gary emerged from his room, and the three of them sat at the table, eating together.

Xin remained a little quiet, still embarrassed by everything, while Gary, seemingly oblivious, ate as though nothing had happened.

“Unzoku didn’t show up during the night,” Gary said between bites, “which means we’re okay for now.”

“No one reported anything strange either. But Unzoku is just one more problem in the bigger picture,” Kai replied. “We have eight days, eight days until the full moon. And four major problems.”

“Four problems?” Xin echoed, trying to list them in her head.

“We have the vampires, the Dark Guild, Lupus… and now Unzoku as well. At any point, any of these groups could attack us.”

“At the same time, apart from the Dark Guild and Lupus, the others are more like individuals, not groups working together.”

“That’s why I’m thinking about trying to create a double alliance,” Kai suggested. “There’s a good chance Lupus won’t act, but now with Unzoku, I’m not so sure.”

“Turning him against us is harder than we thought… just like it is with Gary. Honestly, my head hurts from trying to prepare for everything.”

“But as we know from history, alliances are just that, alliances. Temporary at best. If we can talk to the vampires, maybe we can convince them to help eliminate the Dark Guild.”

“That would remove one variable, not by attacking directly, but by having them keep eyes on the Dark Guild. If they detect movement, they could intercept.”

“We can explain it’s to stop us from being completely annihilated. And after everything we’ve done for them, they owe us.”

“Simply put, no matter the situation we’re in now, it’s not good for us to attack Lupus before the day of the full moon.”

“We’d be creating an enemy and leaving ourselves vulnerable. Even if we allied with the vampires, I’m afraid of what they might do afterward. So I want an alliance that will protect us.”

“If the vampires engage the Dark Guild, it will likely happen on the day of the full moon. If that fight stretches into the next day, our special group, the one we’ve been preparing, can launch a full-scale attack and finally eliminate the Dark Guild.”

“That would take care of one problem.”

“But even if the vampires agree to an alliance and fight the Dark Guild… if Lupus attacks us on the full moon because of Unzoku, won’t that still be a huge problem? Especially since we can’t transform?” Gary asked.

“You’re right,” Kai replied. “And because of that new variable, this is just the position we’re in. It’s the safest choice we have.”

“We need to speak to Blackjack, try to find him.”

“All we can do is prepare to defend ourselves as best we can on that day, if anything happens. I’ll make as many calls as I can, call in every favor we’re owed, and make sure those people are ready to stand with us when the time comes.” Kai’s tone was firm, determined.
