Chapter 1249 - 1249: Ironfang Vs Greenfang (Part 1)
For a moment, Saiber was reflecting on his actions so far. He had been hard on the rookie from the beginning. Not trusting him because he was a student of Blackjack’s, not allowing him to pass because of his match with Pluto.
It was clear the young man was talented as well, and he should have let him pass. He should have trusted him, but Saiber always gave him the cold shoulder.
The treatment from him was unfair, it was unjust, and now that very person who he had treated like so had just sacrificed himself, pushing him to the side to be engulfed in the tornado of flames.
“The fire’s strong!” Saiber lifted his hand, covering his eyes. He could feel the heat even from where he was. “Even with the Altered Armour, I don’t think he’s going to be able to withstand that!”
“Haha, some foolish loyal people you have,” Rex claimed, placing his axe back on his shoulder. “But these flames are amplified by my own swing. If it was a regular fire, maybe he could have survived.”
Eventually, the flames began to dwindle into small embers, and a standing figure could be seen.
First coming into view was the bright green hair. The beard that covered his face had burnt off, and part of the Altered uniform was dropping onto the floor.
Underneath was a skin-tight black sports shirt. There was a golden trim around the neck and the biceps of the shirt.
Along with it were a special type of trousers. The clothes had managed to survive the flames, and now standing there was what looked like an entirely different person altogether.
“That was a little warm but not too bad,” Gary said with a smile. “And I gotta thank Tom for the great clothes for it to get through that.”
The underclothing Gary was wearing had specially been made by Tom. It had been given to all members that had gone on the special Altered missions.
To make sure no Altered Hunter could detect them, they were all wearing it under their clothing.
At the NIRV facility, Altered solutions wasn’t the only thing that they were testing. They had been testing Altered-made equipment, just like that of what the Altered Hunters would use.
Of course, Tom would only use the best of materials that could survive quite the beating, along with intense heat.
However, regardless of the clothing, it didn’t cover a person from head to toe. Their skin could still be affected by the flames.
The Altered Hunter equipment that Gary had been given was made from beast gear, and the fact that it had been destroyed showed just how strong the flames were.
His skin should have had severe burns, and even an Altered would have been hurt, at least a regular one, but Gary’s system had come through with a message.
[You have high fire resistance]
‘Right, when I took care of Sin’s body. Fire is just like a small heat for me, and I have great resistance from my fight with Harvor as well. Even if you’re a strong special Werewolf, you have never met the likes of me.’
As Saiber blinked several times, looking at the individual in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel like he had seen him before.
“So you were wearing some type of disguise? Do you think that matters?” Rex asked as he flicked his fingernails out, shooting them at Gary.
Casually, Gary twisted and turned his body to the side, avoiding both of them, letting them go past him to his left and to his right.
Gary then continued to walk forward, taking a step at a time. There was a big frown on Rex’s face as he saw this, and he continued to use his nails, flicking them forward.
As a high-ranking and powerful Werewolf, his nail flicks were incredibly fast and powerful as well, yet they were avoided each time.
“What is he doing? Why is he moving forward and heading towards that monster!” Saiber said. He tried to move himself, but his body was still in pain. He needed a bit more time to recover. What’s more, he couldn’t get it out of his head—why did this young man look so familiar to him?
Gary continued to move, dodging each of the strikes, and finally, he was only a few meters away from Rex.
“So you think you’re special because you’re good at dodging? Well, try and dodge this!” Rex lifted his axe and started to spin it in the air.
He was spinning it at a great speed and velocity that flames were coming out in rings like a pulse around.
The entire axe was turning a bright red, and fire was trickling down and covered the entirety of Rex’s hand.
“This move, it’s so powerful!” Saiber was covering his face. “This is even stronger than the attack that he aimed at me… Get out the way, Rookie, move! You can’t dodge this one!”
Rex lifted the faint axe in the air. With the momentum of it, sizzling flames shot upright from where he was. They had reached so high that it had broken the glass from above.
The axe was swung down with all of Rex’s might, adding to the heat. As it came down, Gary lifted his hand, and with his fingers, he grabbed onto the side of the axe, digging his fingers in.
He bent his knees as the ground beneath broke and the flames hit his body all over, but the axe was stopped.
Gary was holding onto the axe, and his entire body was fine.
“Now I remember who he is…” Saiber said as he stared in amazement. “He’s… Gary Dem.”
With one hand holding onto the axe, Gary transformed his other arm, fur growing from it, and pulled it back. With all his might, he threw his fist, crashing into the stomach of Rex, causing his entire body to fly through the air.
