Chapter 895 - 494: The Price of the Magic Ring System

Xue Dili held his breath and didn’t dare speak. Forget it, just let him assume he’s the protagonist from the same time-stream or whatever.

But looking at the state of this guy who counted as his own counterpart, Xue Dili scratched his head. He hadn’t expected he’d have this side to him too, huh?

Like, what on earth drove this version of him to be so out of his mind he wanted to get married?

Xue Dili once again fell into doubt about himself. Looking at Doctor Xue felt like looking into a mirror; he could see his own true thoughts reflected in him.

The Great Sage had once said he’d calculated Xue Dili’s future. If he never came into contact with anything Extraordinary, then after graduating from Boston University he would join Doctors Without Borders, and in the end die tragically while treating students in a war-torn region.

Xue Dili more or less agreed with that calculation. If he really had never encountered anything Extraordinary, and then during his time at Boston University got to know Doctors Without Borders, that kind of outcome might actually be highly likely.

But Doctor Xue hadn’t joined Doctors Without Borders. He’d only wanted to solve the Divine Tree crisis, and once the Divine Tree crisis was resolved, he seemed to turn into a "day-to-day guy" who only wanted a warm bed, a wife, and kids.

Even though he mixed with those Greeks, that was just to earn funding; what he really wanted was to live his own life well.

Back then, to earn funding he could only be a workhorse for the medical complex. Now he could get funding through his own crew’s company—why not?

If he really did kill all the Apostles, would he also end up as this kind of day-to-day guy by then?

"Why are you staring at me like that?" This Parallel World version of himself showed a profoundly puzzled expression.

"Nothing. I just didn’t expect that in the future I’d turn into a day-to-day guy. I thought you’d be thinking about how to liberate the lower classes of Amey, or still trying to join Doctors Without Borders or something." Xue Dili said casually.

Doctor Xue fell silent on the spot. He froze for a moment, then said, "Actually, I did think about joining Doctors Without Borders..."

Xue Dili: "..."

"But later, after I got together with Kotori, I gave up. I knew that even if I saved more people, I still wouldn’t change anything. It’s the same for Doctors Without Borders. As great as they are—willing to risk entering war zones blockaded by the Jewtai People to save others—they still can’t accomplish anything in the end..."

"As just a doctor, I can’t change anything. No matter how many people we keep alive, what medicine can’t save is this goddamn trench of an international society..."

Doctor Xue’s words left Xue Dili in silence.

"Anyway, let’s not try to build a state on this alien planet. Our level is only so-so; our understanding of politics is disaster-tier awful. We’re only suited to being Heroes, not politicians." Doctor Xue skipped past the topic in an instant as he spoke.

Xue Dili couldn’t refute that. Political creatures can’t afford morality and compassion; everything has to be weighed in terms of politics and interests.

So back when Xue Dili watched the news, whenever he saw some politician calling himself ’loving the people like his own children,’ he would always snort in disdain.

It’s like when a city is hit by a virulent plague, and there’s no way to solve it in a short time—what do you choose?

The politicians will only choose to abandon that city.

But Xue Dili knew he couldn’t make that kind of trade-off. That’s why he wasn’t a qualified political creature, and even less suited to being a leader or a politician. He didn’t have that kind of decisiveness and ruthlessness, let alone that kind of brutal resolve.

At the end of the day, he still had a bit of a "fussy and overthinking" streak. He wanted to do the best he could in any situation, so his political ability was basically at the level of an ordinary college student—trash-tier.

Dropping the idea of building a state with his other self, Xue Dili headed to the Royal Family Magic Guide Academy.

"Right after I crossed over, I ran into your three students," Doctor Xue said. "They brought me back here, then I settled in and started researching the Magic Rings and Magic you left behind."

"But I didn’t use your identity. I said I was your older brother, named Xue Dinger." Doctor Xue said.

Xue Dili: "..."

Come on, man, can you have a little bit of taste when you’re making up names? You just straight-up grabbed that cat-torturing maniac’s name? You’re really not afraid something’s gonna go wrong with you someday?

Xue Dili really wanted to roast him, but the words stuck in his throat and he stayed quiet.

Very soon, in what used to be his lab, Xue Dili saw Ronald and Cloud Star arguing so fiercely their faces were flushed.

The two of them were already married, yet right now they were bickering like a pair of full-blown chuunibyou teenagers, their whole aura practically "red-warm." If it weren’t for the location, Xue Dili would honestly feel like they were about to transform into Giant Beasts and start a 1v1.

The winner becomes the principal. The loser...

"What’s wrong, at it again?" Xue Dili’s voice rang out.

The two kids didn’t seem surprised and didn’t even look over. Like two squabbling roosters not convinced by each other, they said, "It’s nothing, Martial Uncle, we’re just discussing some family matters over here..."

Ronald talked tough, but something felt off. The next second, he turned his head and saw not only Doctor Xue but also Xue Dili, who was standing there smiling.

"Teacher!" In an instant, the two kids stopped butting heads. Visible delight bloomed across their faces.

"Alright, what’s going on?" Xue Dili said offhandedly. "I show up and immediately see you two arguing. You’re already about to be a dad, and you’re still here acting like a pair of little kids..."
