My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit
Chapter 847 - 471: Against the
However, because of this, Yi Shan’s daughter, Fuge, naturally became the child everyone in the squad took care of.
They watched that little girl growing from a tiny child into a young girl. It was said that she performed exceptionally well in the school arranged by the United Front and even became the object of the teacher’s praise, which made everyone very happy.
And the little girl was very sweet in her speech, calling everyone uncle and aunt every time she came over, which made her the mascot of the entire squad.
Time flew by.
In these seven years, they didn’t know how many special training sessions they had gone through, how many simulations they had completed, and how many test flights they had undertaken on their journey to the ritual point.
Now, everything is ready.
Not just them, but all the members of Expedition Team 13, totaling tens of thousands of teams, were ready to advance.
Meanwhile, the Cosmic Void continued to expand at a speed beyond everyone’s expectations, and now it started to cover a range of over a billion light-years.
In this expansion, countless civilizations and the United Front’s frontline bases, which hadn’t had time to retreat, were consumed by the Void.
At the same time, the mainframe’s calculations showed that the destruction of the cosmos would take less than 300 years.
Therefore, the departure time for Expedition Team 13 had been set.
Thus, the efforts of generations, the sacrifices of countless elites, and this century-long cosmic disaster were to be resolved in their generation.
On the final night before the expedition team set off, the base was filled with a deliberately suppressed silence. Team members were either saying what might be their last goodbyes to family or sitting alone, looking either at the direction of the Great Void or at the direction of the millions of starlights behind them.
Tomorrow would be the time they move against the light.
Anxious, excited, angry, or calm.
Different reactions appeared on the team members.
In Deputy Captain Yi Shan’s room, however, was a contrasting touch of childlike innocence, as his 10-year-old daughter Fuge excitedly showed him her new drawing.
Over the seven years, the team had confirmed their identities and roles, and Yi Shan had become the deputy captain.
Fuge’s drawing depicted a slightly crooked Giant painted with gold and silver crayons, radiating light, with arms wide open as if to embrace the entire cosmos, against a backdrop of densely packed stars represented by different colored dots.
She was an excellent child. Her drawings at school often became something other children and parents envied, earning her the title of "little artist" at school.
"Dad, look! This is the ’Venerable King’!" Her eyes shone brightly, "He is the king of the stars, he will protect everyone, and drive away the darkness!"
The childishly innocent words conveyed her belief in a "superhero" capable of overcoming all difficulties.
She knew nothing; she didn’t know that her father and the other uncles and aunts were members of Expedition Team 13, only understanding they were going on a mission. For this mission, her dad and the uncles and aunts trained hard every day.
However, Yi Shan, knowing the truth, opened his mouth but tasted only bitterness.
"Dad, there will be a parent meeting during the Holy Festival, and I will go to give a speech as an excellent student representative. Can you come, dad?" A look of indescribable pride and hope appeared on little Fuge’s face.
Yi Shan, who had persistently held on as the deputy captain, felt something stuck in his throat, squatting down to gently hug his daughter.
"I will be back... Fuge, Dad will attend your parent meeting..."
The little girl seemed not used to her father’s strong embrace, wriggling to break free from his overly strong arms.
"And! I also have gifts for the uncles and aunts!" She exclaimed, pulling out from her pocket several small trinkets made with colored strings, clay, and sequins.
They were clumsily made, with varying shapes, all striving to mimic the form of the glowing giant in the drawing.
"These are amulets I made! For Dad and his teammates! It will bless you to complete your mission and come home safely!"
She didn’t know what the "Cosmic Void" was, only knowing Dad was going on a very important mission.
In her world, there was no concept of leaving and not returning, only "departing" and "coming home."
She would wait for Dad and the uncles and aunts to come home, then attend her parent meeting, where she would tell Dad and the uncles and aunts just how excellent she was at school.
Yi Shan took the dozen or so heavy and warm little items, solemnly nodding, "Alright, Dad will definitely take them to the uncles and aunts. We will definitely wear them."
"And during the Holy Festival, we will go together to attend your parent meeting..."
...
The next day, Fuge left the dormitory as her holiday had ended, needing to return to school to prepare her student representative speech for the Holy Festival.
And all members of the expedition team had made their final preparations.
It wasn’t much different from the usual simulation training; in fact, they had trained this way countless times.
But what was different today was that each of them, whether on their chest, waist, or hair, wore the amulet closely made by the hands of childlike innocence.
These were the amulets brought by Deputy Captain Yi Shan. Originally, everyone thought it was childish and mocked the deputy captain, but when Yi Shan said they were his daughter’s "peace charms," everyone paused, holding the childish, luminous Giant amulet, feeling as if something was tightly stuck in their throat.
Until the navigator took the lead to wear the amulet on his head, gradually, everyone wore it close to their bodies.
The races varied: some hung it around their necks with vine, some wedged it in their skeletal crevices, while others hung it around their waists.
They were ready for the final preparations.
All other teams too, they all set off from different front lines, coordinating almost simultaneously among tens of thousands of bases at positions close to the Cosmic Void.
This final action was named "Against the Light" by the United Front Headquarters.
These tens of thousands of almost identical starships were given a unified name—Fire Seed!
On each ship, the final Demon Element Beacon was placed. As long as one could carry it to the final area, the "Against the Light" journey would be completed.
Thus, with the salutes from everyone at the base, the Fire Seed lit its torch and sailed toward the set target.
This wasn’t a farewell; it seemed like witnessing a most tragic funeral, using themselves as fuel.
Not just Yi Shan’s base, but tens of thousands of bases around the Cosmic Void began to ignite their torches simultaneously.
Tens of thousands of Fire Seeds, like fireflies flying against the current, flew toward the Cosmic Void.
There were no grand speeches, no assembly rally, only the blue afterburners of the thrusters burning in the vacuum, cold and determined, like a fuse suddenly ignited, dragging out a straight streak of light in the deep darkness, forming a silent torrent.
Even the members of Expedition Team 13, looking at this scene in the starry sky, sighed.
At this point, the direction of the starships was toward the direction of the Cosmic Void. Ahead of them was a whole lot of "nothing," an infinite darkness, and behind them was the starlight of billions.
"No wonder this action is called the ’Against the Light Journey’," Tree-man Dominic sighed.
Yi Shan did not speak, looking out the window toward where his daughter was, but at this distance, he could only see the tiny dot of the star in the galaxy.
Meanwhile, on the planet where Fuge was, it was nighttime. She looked up at the sky, and whether it was an illusion or not, she seemed to see countless streaks of light, like meteor trails flying against the current, heading toward the glow of the Great Void.
In the distance, those streaks of light disappeared one after another, like a flock of moths to a flame, silently and resolutely flying into the eternal fire.
