My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit
Chapter 830 466: If It Were Xue Dili, He Would Do the Same
Xue Dili listened silently behind her, almost without saying a word.
And Chaos had no intention of forcing Xue Dili to respond; she seemed to be quite accustomed to Xue Dili's presence by now, even to the point of getting used to Xue Dili's inexplicable silence.
"As expected, your reaction is exactly as I imagined. You and she are really alike, almost identical; your reactions, your personalities, even your perspectives on the same matter," Chaos continued, even sneering as she spoke, continuing to walk forward. The two seemed to have arrived at the entrance to a basement.
"So, I always wondered as a child, who was the man that tomboy couldn't forget? She often told me a lot of bizarre knowledge and stories, knowledge and stories that didn't seem like they could originate from this world or Earth, yet she knew them."
"When I questioned her about it, she would always fall silent just like you do now, unable to say anything, until I pressed further, and then she might burst out with something like..."
"If it were Xue Dili, he would definitely do this."
The basement door opened, and Chaos stepped into the darkness, while Xue Dili hesitated at the doorstep. Perhaps he realized he might see Athena there. After a brief hesitation, he walked in.
Chaos's voice continued to echo lightly in the tunnel: "When I was too young, I didn't know how to keep pressing for more answers. Later, when I grew a bit older, I understood how to force more truth out."
"So, when that woman tried to brush me off again with such words, I blurted out..."
"Are you putting on another 'Memoir of a Deceased Husband' act?" Chaos said, unable to contain her laughter.
Xue Dili was momentarily stunned. Perhaps until now, he hadn't felt any tangible connection to the past Chaos spoke of, because for him, the protagonist of Chaos's story seemed unrelated to him.
Yet inexplicably, it felt familiar.
"Do you know how that woman replied at the time?" Chaos asked Xue Dili.
Xue Dili shook his head.
"She just shook her head back then." Chaos chuckled, her gaze at Xue Dili softening, revealing a hint of complex emotions.
"Or maybe my reaction annoyed her, and in the end, all she said was, 'Because I'm just his copy, or maybe my thoughts have been completely twisted by them, that's all.'" Chaos said, tears shimmering at the corners of her eyes like a Ranger's, "I originally thought she was speaking in riddles again, until now, perhaps I finally understand what she meant."
"Aside from gender, the two of you are identical in thought and habit, like a one-to-one replica. When I see you in action, I instantly notice the familiar places; it's just too familiar." Chaos smiled bitterly, pausing at the end of the hallway.
"We're here. This is the final secret of this planet."
She quietly pushed the door open, and what Xue Dili saw wasn't a scientific laboratory, nor a magical research institute, but a massive collection of... tree roots?
Yes, tree roots, densely packed and sprawling everywhere. They completely enveloped the room, firmly rooting into the ground, as if intending to spread throughout the whole world through this network.
And this enormous tangle of roots suddenly reminded Xue Dili of something very familiar.
"Divine Tree?" Xue Dili asked immediately.
"Yes, a Divine Tree, one that descended upon this planet shortly after I grew up, the Divine Tree that took everything from me..." Chaos said as she approached the roots, touching them gently, she spoke softly,
"Athena, the person you've been waiting for has come to see you."
"Buzz!"
The roots seemed to twitch slightly, and that subtle movement caused the entire planet to feel as if it were experiencing an earthquake. In Osma City, this earthquake seemed to make the entire city tremble.
Yet, the residents here didn't mind; it seemed they were long accustomed to such quakes.
But Xue Dili's pupils contracted because, considering Chaos's previous story, coupled with the current Divine Tree and her attitude, he suddenly understood why Chaos could become the 10th Apostle, why the world was like this, and why Chaos would refer to this Divine Tree as...
Athena!
"You're not wrong. Back then, we were too weak, powerless. Even Athena, in the end, could only choose to fuse herself into this Divine Tree to completely warp this creature."
"These were her words at the time..."
"All I can do in the end is include this vast memory, including myself, a memory of billions of stars, that twisted me from that contorted Main God of Greece into what I am now. And all I can do is implant this memory bomb into this creature."
Chaos said, lightly pressing her cheek against the roots of the Divine Tree.
"If it were Xue Dili, he would have done the same." Imitating Athena's tone, Chaos spoke the words once more.
In an instant, Xue Dili only felt his head buzzing. He understood what had happened and why Chaos had always had this attitude.
