Chapter 589: Five hundred eighty-eight, she is the one who poisoned.
Yan Hao’s eyes flickered with a glint of despair. He never expected that despite a lifetime of intelligence, he would meet his end at the hands of the very pawn he had positioned.
Qu Ling’s face twisted into a grimace, his eyes filled with a bloodthirsty radiance, akin to a demon from hell at that moment.
As the dagger in his hand plunged down fiercely, a surge of immense power swept in, sending the dagger flying away.
Biting his teeth in frustration, Qu Ling knew he had missed the optimal opportunity.
Yan Hao secretly heaved a sigh of relief and, surprised, looked towards the doorway just in time to see Xu Pingfeng leading a group of people as they walked in.
Xu Lingling approached Qu Ling, disappointment filling her eyes as she spoke, “I wanted to give you a chance, but you didn’t appreciate it in the slightest.”
Qu Ling managed a bitter smile, “A chance? Did I ever have one?” He had known there was no turning back the moment he betrayed the Xu Family.
“Family Head Xu, let me go, and I won’t target you in the future,” pleaded Family Head He, knowing that his fate now rested in Xu Pingfeng’s hands.
“Yes, let’s continue to live in peace as before,” Family Head Zhao quickly added.
“I was wrong before, I’ll provide compensation. As for this monster, you can kill or maim him as you see fit, Family Head Xu,” stated Yan Hao, who now just wanted to leave the Xu Family’s reach, certain that they would not let him off. No one could cross him and yet escape unscathed.
Sitting at the head seat, Xu Pingfeng swept a nonchalant gaze over the three, “Of course, I’d like to reconcile with the three Family Heads. However, I’m afraid I don’t possess the means to neutralize the poison afflicting you.”
“What poison have we been struck with?” Yan Hao asked anxiously.
“That’s something you’ll have to ask him,” Xu Pingfeng said as he turned to look at Qu Ling.
Realizing everyone’s attention was on him, Qu Ling quickly pointed at Song Yan Ning, “She is the one who poisoned us.”
All eyes simultaneously turned to Song Yan Ning.
“This poison is called ’Hundred-day Tomb,” which means that an antidote must be taken every hundred days to evade death,” Song Yan Ning stated flatly.
“Just give us the antidote, and you can name your conditions,” reasoned Yan Hao and the other two, believing that Song Yan Ning’s use of poison was solely for profit.
“You perhaps haven’t grasped my meaning. What I said was that it requires taking an antidote once every hundred days,” Song Yan Ning explained, pulling out an antidote and tossing it to Yan Hao, “Here are three antidotes, one for each of you.”
Catching the Jade Bottle, Yan Hao swiftly opened it, took out one pill and put it in his mouth, then reluctantly passed the bottle to Family Head He beside him.
No sooner had he swallowed the antidote than Yan Hao felt his strength returning. He gave Song Yan Ning a chilly look and exerted a powerful aura towards her, pressuring her, “Give me the antidote.”
But an even mightier aura blocked Yan Hao’s pressure, sending him staggering several steps back.
Shocked, Yan Hao stared at Qin Yushen, “Who are you?” He had thought himself the strongest in Qingyan City, yet this young man who had appeared from nowhere was even stronger.
“If there is a next time, you die!” Qin Yushen’s voice was frigid, emitting a bone-chilling coldness.
Yan Hao trembled uncontrollably and hung his head in fear.
Family Heads Zhao and He had considered teaming up with Yan Hao to confront Qin Yushen and Song Yan Ning, but seeing Yan Hao’s capitulation, they dared not make a move.
“There will be only one antidote every month, which I will deliver to Family Head Xu on time. You can try finding someone to cure your poison, but whether it might worsen your condition is something I cannot guarantee,” Song Yan Ning’s gaze flicked across the trio.
“We understand,” the three said, nodding, as they fought to suppress their anger. The feeling of having their lives in someone else’s hands was truly unpleasant, but they had no choice at the moment.
Song Yan Ning turned to Xu Pingfeng, “Family Head Xu, I will ensure the antidote is delivered regularly. We’ll take our leave now.”
“Let me escort you!” Xu Pingfeng immediately rose. He could rest easy now; with the three poisoned, their lives were in his control, and however much they wished to doom him, they had no choice but to endure.
Once Xu Pingfeng and his entourage had departed, the eyes of the poisoned trio simultaneously zeroed in on Qu Ling. If it hadn’t been for Qu Ling, they wouldn’t have been poisoned, their lives wouldn’t have ended up in someone else’s hands.
With a smile of despair, Qu Ling acknowledged his fate. Regrettably, he had failed to kill Yan Hao.
