Agravain floated downward before descending onto one knee, bending his head in reverence. "My King."

Meanwhile, Ethan let out a breath of relief before dropping his butt onto the ground, allowing himself to catch his breath.

He had, after all, just been about to get nuked.

Summoning Arthur was an intentional move to derail the Knight of the Sun before his attack struck, and thankfully, it worked.

Arthur stared down at Agravain in disbelief, almost as though he couldn’t understand the sight of his knight still alive.

For one thing, he knew Agravain wasn’t a spirit.

Summons could recognize one another, and Agravain was definitely not one of them.

But just as Arthur was about to ask how this was possible, Agravain raised his head.

Arthur’s gaze fell upon the dark markings spread across the knight’s face; a faint green glow pulsing from within them.

His eyes widened in recognition of these markings.

And right then, Morgana descended from the sky, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.

Agravain slowly rose from his kneeling position and took several steps back toward Morgana, deliberately averting his face as he moved.

Being under her control meant that he could not remain kneeling before Arthur if Morgana did not want him to.

Arthur’s expression hardened as he watched him.

"Morgana," he whispered, fury evident in his voice.

Morgana, however, wore an excited smile. "Long time no see...Brother."

"Why have you kept Agravain in bondage all this time?" he demanded. "You’ve forced him to live for several centuries beyond the rest of his peers."

Arthur could see the exhaustion in Agravain’s face.

The knight truly was tired of existing like this for hundreds of years, trapped as one of Morgana’s puppets.

The Queen Of Demons regarded Arthur with an annoyingly playful expression. "Of course, wasting no time in becoming a pain in the ass."

Ethan’s gaze moved from one sibling to the other. He had absolutely no intention of interfering with whatever strange, incredibly untouching reunion this was.

To understand why Agravain had ended up in Morgana’s captivity, one would have to go back to the era when Morgana and King Arthur repeatedly waged war against one another.

During that time, Agravain had been one of Camelot’s greatest weapons against the forces of darkness, second perhaps only to the divine sword, Excalibur.

Whenever Agravain entered the battlefield against a battalion of demons, victory for Camelot was almost guaranteed.

He could single-handedly turn the course of an entire battle.

And because of the nature of Agravain’s blessing, Camelot had naturally built many of its strategies around him. Most major offensives against Morgana’s forces were carried out during the daytime, when the Knight of the Sun was at his strongest.

But it had only taken one night for Camelot to lose one of its greatest weapons.

On that particular day, Agravain led a section of Camelot’s army into demon territory, where they successfully wiped out a large battalion of demons.

The attack itself had been a success, but the problem came when they tried to return home.

They had traveled so deep into enemy territory that reaching Camelot before nightfall was unlikely. And unknown to them, Morgana had prepared for precisely that problem.

Through magical interference established ahead of time, she caused the weather to deteriorate along their return route.

Heavy rainfall turned the roads into mud, violent winds battered the surrounding forests, and several sections of their path became increasingly difficult to traverse.

Their journey slowed considerably.

By the time Agravain and his forces had put most of the demon territory behind them, continuing through the night no longer seemed reasonable.

So they stopped.

A forest along their route offered enough cover for the army to establish a temporary camp and rest until morning.

At the time, the decision hardly seemed dangerous. They had already left the majority of enemy territory behind, and they only intended to remain there for a few hours before continuing their journey at first light.

What they did not know was that Morgana had planned for exactly that.

She knew Agravain would be among the forces attacking that region.

She knew how far they would have to travel.

And she had deliberately created the conditions that would prevent them from returning to Camelot before nightfall.

All she had needed was for the sun to disappear.

Because if the Knight of the Sun was at his strongest during the day, then the Blessed of the Endless Dark was at her strongest during the night.

And when night finally came, Morgana struck.

The soldiers barely had time to understand what was happening before a pool of darkness spread underneath the entire encampment.

Darkness poured between the trees and across the forest floor, joining together beneath hundreds of soldiers until the ground itself seemed to disappear.

Then it began to pull them under.

The shadows transformed into an enormous swirling abyss, swallowing tents, weapons, horses, and soldiers alike.

Panic immediately erupted throughout the camp.

Those who reacted quickly tried to flee beyond the darkness, only for the shadows to pursue them across the forest.

One after another, Camelot’s soldiers disappeared into it.

None escaped that night.

Not even Agravain.

Before the sun could rise again and restore the Knight of the Sun to the height of his power, Morgana had already swallowed him into the Endless Dark.

Agravain had been plunged into darkness so deep that even when the sun eventually rose, there was no way for its influence to reach him.

And that was exactly what Morgana needed.

Of all the Dark Ones, Morgana was the only one capable of commandeering a certain level of one of the Mistress’s vital Authorities.

The All-Consuming.

It was an Authority that allowed the Mistress, and subsequently Morgana, to encapsulate and consume almost anything through darkness.

And it was through the All-Consuming that Morgana had managed to subdue Agravain and the army that had accompanied him.

The soldiers had not been so fortunate as their lives were eventually snuffed out within the darkness.

Agravain’s, however, was deliberately preserved.

Morgana already knew she wanted the Knight of the Sun as one of her puppets.

But before she could bring someone as powerful and strong-willed as Agravain completely under her control, she first intended to break him.

So Morgana kept him alive.

Her control over the Endless Dark was extensive enough that she could manipulate what occurred within the realm from the outside. So whenever Agravain required sustenance, Morgana would send food into the darkness, guide it through the realm until it reached the depths where he was imprisoned, then manipulate the darkness itself to permeate the nutrients directly into his body.

And that continued for decades.

Agravain remained trapped in absolute darkness, isolated so completely that eventually there was little distinction between whether his eyes were opened or closed.

With no sunlight, no voices, and almost nothing around him to stimulate his senses, those senses gradually became numb to the emptiness surrounding him.

And eventually, Morgana succeeded in what she had intended from the beginning; She broke him.
