Chapter 450: Morgana Le Fay
"Morgana Le Fay."
Ethan expression went surprised. "What?"
The suddenness made Isabella lift her head again as she gave a nod. "Yeah."
"Your father mentioned that name to me once." Ethan said. "And from Arthur’s story, Morgana was the one he, Merlin, Beilong, and his knights constantly fought against back in their time."
Isabella nodded again. "Yes. It’s that Morgana."
"You’re telling me Morgana is somewhere on this continent? And she’s still alive?" He asked again.
Bella nodded to affirm the answers
Ethan’s surprise grew which drew more questions from him. "How does someone even survive the end of the world? And then survive another thousand years after the world was remade?"
Isabella shrugged slightly. "Apparently, every Blessed of mine is also blessed—or cursed, depending on how you look at it—with immortality. They can’t die until I... well, the other me decides that it’s time for them to die."
She paused. "Not even the end of the world could kill them."
Ethan stared at her for a moment. "Okay. Whoa."
He then gave her a teasing look. "Now I’m starting to think the other you was really evil if Morgana was one of her Blessed."
Isabella laughed. "Honestly, I kind of think so too."
From Ethan’s knowledge of the story, this was the history of Morgana Le Fay.
Morgana and King Arthur were siblings, both children of King Uther Pendragon. Her mother, however, was a half-demon, half-human woman who concealed her demonic nature under a human guise.
She was also a prostitute, and Uther had never known her true nature when Morgana was born.
Arthur, on the other hand, was born to Uther’s queen. As the legitimate firstborn son of the king, he was naturally regarded as the heir to the throne.
To preserve his reputation, Uther took Morgana into the castle and separated her from her mother. Morgana grew up there, never knowing the identity of her birth mother, and lived a relatively quiet life within the castle.
The laws of the kingdom stated that the first child of the king would inherit the throne. Every king before Uther had, by coincidence or perhaps some ancient influence, been succeeded by a firstborn son. So when the time came for Uther to name his successor, Arthur was therefore chosen almost by default.
Morgana refused to accept it.
She argued that she was the king’s first child and therefore had the rightful claim to the throne.
There were two problems with her claim, however; She had not been born to the king’s wife, and centuries of tradition had established the king’s successor as a male heir.
Morgana fought against both conditions, but neither the court nor the kingdom accepted her claim.
Eventually, furious with the decision, she left Camelot.
From that point onward, she became one of the kingdom’s greatest enemies.
She travelled to other kingdoms and revealed secrets about Camelot to their rulers, giving them information they could use to attack the kingdom or undermine its influence.
They all failed in their attempts, but eventually, she returned herself, bringing war directly to Camelot.
She came with an army of demons under her command.
For years, Morgana used that army to wage war against Camelot, and her arrival with the demons forced the kingdom to develop a weapon capable of fighting them. That was how Excalibur, the holy sword, came into existence.
The sword was forged from three things: the metal of man, the flames of Beilong, and the blessing of a god.
Those three elements gave Excalibur enough divinity to strike down demons, allowing Camelot’s forces to fight Morgana’s army on more even terms.
The war continued for years, until eventually, a world-shattering cataclysm brought it all to an end.
"So, what is she doing here?" Ethan asked. "I mean, it’s not exactly surprising that she’s on the continent, but is she just living here as a regular citizen or something? Do you even know?"
"Actually, we haven’t made any contact," Isabella replied. "I can sense her even now. I’m able to sense all of my Blessed, so I know she’s somewhere on the continent. But I can’t actually see what she’s doing or where she is."
Ethan’s expression brightened with curiosity. "I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of curious about her. I wonder how Merlin would react if I told him Morgana was still alive. Even Arthur..." He chuckled. "I really wonder how he’d react if he found out."
Isabella smiled. "Actually, I think I can do something about that. I believe I can observe my Blessed if I want to."
"Oh, nice nice." Ethan nodded, then paused. "Hold on. She’d know if you did that, right? I mean, if I ever tried doing something like that to Percival, he’d probably know."
Isabella nodded. "Yeah, she would. Although she already knows that the Mistress is here, so I don’t think it would surprise her much."
"Let’s check, then." Ethan said, having this eager expression.
"Hold on babe" Isabella said, then closed her eyes and reached inward, directing her thoughts toward the other presence within her. ’I’m going to observe Morgana.’
There was a brief pause before Isabella added, ’Is that okay?’
[It is a mere frivolity that I do not care about.]
Isabella smiled faintly. ’Uh-huh. Or you’re just waiting for the day you finally meet her so you can give her an earful and make her beg for her life for refusing to come and pay her respects to her Mistress all this time.’
[Whatever. I really don’t care. Do whatever you want.]
Isabella gave a small scoff before ending the exchange.
She opened her eyes and turned her to husband. "Okay. Let’s do it."
Ethan nodded, and Isabella closed her eyes once more.
Her awareness stretched outward, reaching across the continent as she searched for the presence of her Blessed.
Her vision first landed on Bettie, who was in another room with the others, talking and laughing with them.
Then it moved to Abaddon.
His legs were folded, suspended within a realm of absolute darkness. This was within Isabella’s shadow.
Her awareness continued onward then she found Morgana.
The figure of Morgan had her back turned, long black hair falling down her back, with enormous horns rising from different corners of her head.
Slowly, the figure turned. It was as though she were looking directly back at Isabella.
The face staring back at her was pale and almost mask-like, had one red eye at the center its forehead. It was covered by dark markings that ran down from the forehead and around the eyes.
This was the Demon King.
