Chapter 596

Whoooosh—!

Both Ray and Edd appeared in the same holding room as before.

There was no change in the room whatsoever to suggest that anyone had lived in it for even a single day.

The moment they stepped out of the bright beam, Ray staggered forward before eventually sliding down a wall, his legs tucked towards his body.

He didn’t move.

He didn’t say a word as Edd looked down at him, barely showing a flinch of emotion.

Ray remained there for several seconds, perhaps even minutes. Nobody could tell, as he didn’t budge from his position.

Finally, the Messenger opened his mouth.

"What you did back there took guts. Do you know that just one of them could kill you without breaking a sweat?"

"...."

Ray didn’t respond. He simply acted as though he hadn’t heard a thing.

Edd heaved a sigh before continuing.

"Unlike us, ordinary Celestials who oversee worlds and planets, the First Ones oversee entire Universes, ensuring they remain in balance. Any threat that could arise against a Universe is theirs to erase.

"Yet you challenged them in their own Realm? How stupid can you be?"

"...."

Still, Ray didn’t reply. He simply kept his head lowered.

Edd lingered for a few seconds before shaking his head in exhaustion.

"Anyway, I’m here to tell you that this is your new home, so try to be a good Tribrid and don’t do anything stupid. I’ll come to check on you once in a while.

"You will remain here until, perhaps, the First Ones decide you’re good enough to be free. Time moves differently here compared to the mortal realm."

Edd hesitated for a moment before deciding to divulge the information regardless.

After all, the Tribrid was part Celestial, so he deserved to know.

".... A day spent here is equivalent to just an hour passing in the mortal realm. And you could be here for centuries, so be a—"

"—You done?" Ray interrupted the Messenger without even lifting his head.

"Pardon?"

Slowly, Ray raised his head to glare into the Messenger’s eyes.

"If you’re done yapping, kindly leave. I want to be alone."

Edd hesitated for a few moments, his lips parting as though he wanted to say something, when—

"Oi, you damned First Ones! Are you listening?!" Ray shouted, turning his head around the room and glaring at every corner of the walls.

"... Come get your lapdog out of here. He’s already pissing me off. Hurry before I send his corpse out of here!"

Edd’s brows knitted in irritation, causing him to turn around with a scoff.

He took a few steps forward until he reached a wall, then stopped and slowly turned his head towards Ray.

"I’m not your enemy, Tri—Ray. I’m neither your friend. I’m just a Messenger doing my job."

And with that, the Messenger vanished in a flash of light, leaving Ray hissing before slamming the back of his head against the wall with an exhausted sigh of relief.

"I thought he would never leave. Tsk."

Then, he looked down at his feet before shaking his head and gazing at the ever-white ceiling overhead, a frown forming on his face.

’This is bad, Elyon.’

«You tell me. You just had to run your damn mouth like a tap in front of Them? How stupid can you be? Did the pain of losing Bruce somehow get to you?

Or is it the fact that he is somehow influencing you from somewhere, and I have no idea how? I always thought you were smart. Tsk.»

Ray didn’t reply. He simply let the Celestial rant inside his mind as much as he wanted, while only the corner of the boy’s mouth twitched into a knowing smirk.

"I was trying to say that this situation is bad because I can’t see any bathroom here. What if I need to tinkle or bathe? Tsk, what an inconsiderate realm this is. Or do Celestials not make use of bathrooms?"

Elyon was shocked, his mouth agape at the absurdity of Ray’s words.

They were essentially trapped here with no apparent means of escape and could possibly be under surveillance by Edd or, even worse, the First Ones.

Yet the bathroom was his concern?

Elyon felt like smacking the boy on the head but refrained, choosing instead to click his tongue in frustration.

"No Wall cl— actually..."

’System! Based on what Edd said, can you find a way to show me the time and compare it with the mortal realm?’

[....]

[I’m not some universal wall clock, you foolish host. I can’t see the sun rising, so I wouldn’t know if a day or a week has passed.]

’So useless, then? Tsk.’

[....!!?]

Ray merely waved his hand dismissively before placing both hands behind his head and resting against them.

Crossing one leg over the other, he swung them from side to side while nodding his head rhythmically, as though listening to a beautiful melody.

His eyes were closed, like someone experiencing something delightful, as he continued moving.

Elyon, noticing this behaviour, grew worried.

He had no idea what was going through Ray’s mind.

Most of the time, whenever Ray thought internally, Elyon could hear his words as though he were speaking aloud. However, there were moments when Ray could simply put up a barrier and delve deeper into his mind, going beyond the Mindspace to think about something.

And for some reason, all his actions since arriving in the Celestial Realm had been strange.

’He has been losing his composure more and more since we got here, which is unlike him. He’s always calm, regardless of the situation. So what happened to him?’

Elyon blinked for a moment before sighing.

’More importantly, we need to figure out a way out of here. And I need to find a way to recover my lost memories. I thought perhaps the First Ones were the ones who sealed them.

’But they didn’t even recognise me when I mentioned my name. So who? What has the power to seal my memories?’
