Chapter 539

Zipping between buildings with quite the momentum, shooting past streets like arrows released from bows.

Weaving between hover cars and bikes on their way to different destinations, the cohort sped through the city.

With Raze out front leading them, the others followed with tremendous speed.

Bonny and Johnny were in the air, following them in their helicopter as the busy streets of Wall Steel occasionally felt a blast of wind from the passing hover bikes.

Normally, hover bikes were tremendously fast, but in a street full of people, unless you were an expert, it was unwise to use the bikes at such a speed.

The slightest mistake could cause an accident, potentially killing both the rider and whoever they collided with.

Hence, the bikes were always used at the normal speed a motorbike from the past would travel at.

But currently, with the speed the group was moving at, it was as if the engines of two or three powerful bikes had been fused together, causing them to speed forward as they pushed their bikes to maximum speed.

They didn’t have to worry about fuel because the hover bikes thrived on beast cores.

Beast cores were incredibly important to humanity and even the Aberrants, which was why they were mostly fighting on different beast planets.

Raw beast cores could increase a Meta-human’s Meta-Force.

While processed cores, which had lost all their raw essence, were used to power virtually everything humanity used.

From crafting beast weapons to powering their technology and even the hover bikes.

So as long as they had beast cores, they were good to go.

"I wonder how long we will take before we get to Wall Rose," Ray mumbled under his breath.

With the wind surging past her ears, Trish peeked one eye open.

"Did you say something?"

"I said your heart is slamming out of your rib and onto my back. Are you sure you’re okay? This is un—"

"—Just focus on the journey already." Trisha shouted loudly.

Ray lightly shrugged his shoulders before tilting the bike as he avoided a car that had already passed by him.

His hair was wildly whipping around, the silver strands quite grown—longer than before.

He hadn’t had the time to actually trim his hair yet.

And for some reason, he actually liked it longer.

Anyway, hours zoomed past just as fast as the hover bikes... well, slower than that.

The sun was now incredibly high in the sky, making sure its rays mercilessly beat down on the humans below.

’When moving from Wall Rose to Wall Steel, I think it took us two or three days? That was on a slow train, though. Could we get there in less time or...?’

Ray mused inwardly as he controlled the bike with professional movements.

Ray sighed deeply and sent the bike shooting harder into the distance, riding side by side with Kai and Chloe.

Caster was behind Raze out front, while the helicopter above was finding it quite hard to follow them at the speed they were moving.

With such a sudden increase in speed, Trish pressed her body tighter against Ray’s back, causing her generous chest to dig into his back.

Ray almost let go of the handlebar as his eyes stretched wide for a moment, his heart beating loudly in tandem as he felt that soft... soft...

A loud horn suddenly sounded, snapping him back to reality.

He abruptly turned left, watching as a car rushed past him.

His heart slammed against his chest with such intensity, both from what he was feeling from the Ice Queen and from the prospect of nearly having an accident.

’Focus, Ray. Focus... pure thoughts only.’

The journey continued, with none of the Vanguards exchanging any words with each other.

Not like they weren’t capable of doing so, but because there was no need to.

When the clock struck three p.m., the edge of Wall Steel could be seen coming into view.

The dent the Aberrants had caused in it a month ago was fully repaired as the huge, thick, impregnable gate now came into view.

The guards who had been killed that day had already been replaced.

The authorization for the gates to be opened had already been passed down by General Luther Shields, so upon seeing the bikes approach, the guards didn’t waste a second before opening the gates.

Watching the thick double gates slide outward, Ray’s heart hammered against his chest as memories—or rather, the lack of them—of the day he and Van had ridden through these same gates on that fateful day flooded his mind.

Unfortunately, he had been unconscious due to the debilitating pain caused by the Tribrid System fusing with him.

And now...

With a powerful roar, the bikes rushed through the gates one after another—a blur of motion.

Ray was the last to drive out, and the moment he did, he lightly turned his head around to see the gates closing behind them.

’I guess it’s sealed. We are heading back home.’

VROOOM! VROOOM! VROOOM!

.....

Many, many hours later, after a torturous ride, it was now nine p.m., and they had crossed half their journey.

It would take a few more hours to get to Wall Rose, but for that, they needed to rest.

Because tomorrow was D-Day.

If they were able to maintain the speed they had demonstrated today, they would get to the Wall within four to five hours.

Since the night sky was now above them and not everybody had incredible eyesight like Ray or Felix, they decided to rest outside a forest bed, close to a cave of sorts.

They had already set up camp, with their bikes resting off to the side after a day of relentless use.

Bonny and Johnny sat around the fire, which was lit in the center, as everybody gathered around it.

Ray took the liberty of bringing out all the meals he had obtained from the cafeteria back at the base.

They were still warm and fresh despite having been acquired in the early hours of the day.

The aroma of delicious food misted into the air.

From Spiced Mutton Skewers and Chicken Liver with Onion to Pork Belly Bites, rice, and more.

The group didn’t hesitate as they began digging in, all except for Raze.

He simply grabbed a piece of chicken and a cup of coffee, which Ray had thoughtfully obtained beforehand. Then, he stood up and walked toward another corner, leaving the group—including Bonny and Johnny—to wolf down the rest.
