As promised, the next day, Bonny and Johnny arrived at the Vanguard’s base in their helicopter.

Waiting to welcome them was the cohort, all except for Ray and Captain Raze.

The both of them were nowhere to be seen.

As she descended from the helicopter, Bonny straightened her blazer with a charming smile on her face.

Johnny adjusted the straps on the bags slung over his shoulders, one of them clutched tightly in his grasp.

No doubt, they were filled with the equipment they would need for their work.

Running a hand through his hair, he looked around the place with awe in his eyes.

Nobody... no civilian was allowed inside the Vanguards’ base, yet here the two of them were, standing in the most secure location in the city—second only to the residences of the Big Four.

"Welcome to the Vanguards’ base, Miss Bonny," Chloe greeted with a warm smile as she bowed slightly in the woman’s direction.

"It’s an honour to be here and be allowed to come with you all on this expedition," Bonny responded with a cute smile.

"Actually, you are the one doing us this favour because from your livestream, humanity will see how hard we are willing to fight for them and the fact that we are no threat. Especially Ray," Van chimed in while rubbing his tired eyes.

Bonny looked around their midst for a moment before raising a brow.

"By the way, where’s the wer... uh... Ray?"

The cohort cast quick glances at one another, remembering how Raze had commanded them all to welcome the woman.

Then, when they went over to call the Tribrid...

"Man... just leave me alone. I feel too sleepy for all this. You all go welcome her. I don’t give a fuck about her. Just leave me to sleep."

And then he slammed the door before vanishing back into his room.

Blinking for a few seconds, Kai noticed the woman was still waiting for a response. He flashed a charming smile that could melt the hearts of any girl staring at him.

Even Bonny’s heart skipped a beat for a moment as she laid eyes on the handsome Legacy.

"Ray is busy training, and whenever he does, he’s in this weird zone and doesn’t like to be disturbed. You know how deadly this expedition will be. He needs to train and hopefully grow stronger."

Johnny gulped as he looked in Kai’s direction.

"How much stronger does he need to get? I watched the livestream of the Tier Three Gate break, where he absolutely demolished hundreds of King Rank beasts alone. He went into the Gate, defeated the Emperor Rank beast, and came out.

How much strength does he still need?"

The cohort exchanged brief glances before Trisha stepped forward.

"Come on. I will take you both to where you will be resting. You must be tired after such a long journey, and you will need to get prepared as we will be leaving the base tomorrow."

"Tomorrow? Why tomorrow? Isn’t the expedition in two days?" Bonny inquired.

"Yes. But the journey to Wall Rose will take quite some time, hence we need to leave early. We strike those monsters in two days," Caster replied smoothly.

"Oh." Bonny simply muttered before looking towards Johnny.

With a nod towards the cohort, they all led the way, and she followed.

The duo marvelled at the interior of the base—at how busy it was, with dozens of Vanguards moving from one place to another.

Most of the Vanguards spared the streamer a quick glance—some blushing at how beautiful she looked, while others opened their mouths in surprise at seeing the most famous streamer walking into their base with a bashful smile.

"Wow. This place is quite beautiful for a military base," Johnny commented as he looked around, his neck twisting from side to side with a wondrous look on his face.

It took a few minutes of riding the elevator before the cohort delivered the crew to their personal rooms.

Despite its enormous size, the base had hundreds of rooms, far more than could possibly be occupied at once.

There were hundreds of empty rooms that had never had occupants, while others had simply been left vacant after their former occupants had lost their lives or moved elsewhere.

After doing what they had been assigned to do, the cohort simply dispersed to do their own thing.

With less than twenty-four hours before they would be moving out, they needed to train and prepare themselves for what awaited them.

Seeing that the cohort was gone, Bonny quickly pulled Johnny outside, her microphone in hand while the young man carried his camera.

"Yo, what do we want to do?" Johnny asked.

"Interview the Vanguards, of course. We won’t get a better opportunity than this."

"Wait, we can’t do that. I’m sure the Order wouldn’t want us filming their base. The fact that they so graciously let us in doesn’t mean we should reveal the layout of their haven to the world." Johnny cut her off before she could even take a step forward.

"Who’s displaying their haven to the world? We just want to interview the Vanguards, not the base. And we aren’t going live. It will be pre-recorded or something."

"But—"

"—No ifs and buts. Come on." Bonny grabbed the young man’s arm and began dragging him forward.

Johnny’s entire face almost turned red from embarrassment, his gaze remaining fixed on Bonny’s hand wrapped around his arm.

’Th-this is the first time she has held me this way.’

Before he knew it, they were back downstairs, and interview they did.

Going from one Vanguard to another, Bonny basically asked them simple questions about what life was like in the base and how tough their missions were.

Johnny recorded everything—definitely not going live.

Some of the less busy Vanguards answered her questions politely, while others simply waved her off, as they were too busy with their duties.

Some couldn’t help but gawk at her beauty, but they tried their best to remain composed as they answered one question after another.

And as the hours blurred past, the day of their departure drew closer.

After a few hours of interviews, Bonny and Johnny eventually returned to their rooms to rest for the day ahead.

The main cohort was nowhere to be seen afterward, as they had all gone to prepare themselves for what would happen the following day.
