My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 502: Disaster Magnet? (2)
Chapter 500
Slowly turning his head to look at the windows after hearing one of the customers in the café shout the words—
— It’s-it’s a Gate!
Quickly turning back to his phone, Ray clicked on the danger icon to see what rank the Gate was.
"Tier 3."
His gaze stretched for a moment as he saw the rank displayed on the screen.
Recalling his lectures from the Aspirant Corps, his eyes narrowed.
’Tier 3 Gates are usually populated by Advanced-rank and King-rank minions with an Emperor-rank boss... this is bad.’
Turning his head around again to look outside, he could now see the people going about their day running helter-skelter, trying to get as far away from the Gate as possible.
Chaos erupted outside even before the first beast took a step out.
And within a few seconds of opening, the beasts didn’t waste any time before rushing outside.
One by one, hordes of them forced their way into the human world.
The Gate erupted with movement as a horde of enormous creatures poured through it, each one towering over ordinary humans.
The beasts were hulking monsters with thick, greyish-green skin stretched over dense, muscular bodies.
Their broad shoulders, massive arms, and heavy legs made every step shake the ground beneath them. Small, deep-set eyes glared from beneath heavy brows, while wide mouths revealed rows of crooked teeth and protruding tusks.
These were Ogres.
No two Ogres looked exactly alike.
Some carried enormous iron clubs, while others wielded crude axes, gigantic swords, spiked hammers, and thick spears.
A few dragged massive shields behind them, their surfaces scarred from countless battles, while others carried chains wrapped around their arms like weapons.
Their crude armor varied from creature to creature. Some wore metal plates across their chests and shoulders, while others relied entirely on their thick hides for protection.
Hundreds of them flooded into the city through the Gate, roaring and bellowing as their weapons slammed against the ground.
Their combined footsteps thundered through the streets, turning the once-familiar city into a battlefield within moments.
Seeing these massive creatures in person, the humans all turned right around and began bolting away.
Who wanted to tackle these guys?
— The Vanguard Order! Someone beep them now!
A customer inside the café shouted because the second the Ogres stepped outside, their weapons began causing damage.
One slam, and the ground beneath their feet shattered into chunks of debris.
Some ran after the fleeing humans, while others turned around and began attacking the structures surrounding them.
And soon, two locked their eyes on the café.
One of the customers turned around and caught sight of Ray still sitting down.
— Wait! That’s a Vanguard member, he will save—
The words died in the customer’s throat as Ray grabbed his spoon, scooped up some cake, and shoved it into his mouth.
Reaching for his chips, he grabbed a handful and began munching on them.
’Ah... this is the life. Delicacies I couldn’t afford, look at me now enjoying them. Ah... so peaceful.’
— AHHH!
Screams thundered from outside as the beasts began tearing through humans with their heavy weapons.
The security man outside the café, upon seeing the hulking beasts approaching the building, trembled as he lifted his hands forward.
Wind rushed around his arms, coalescing and almost forming an attack.
Only for the Ogre to move with blistering speed, its club lifting into the air before crashing into the man’s head.
Bang—!
It was like a watermelon being popped as his head imploded on itself, crimson spraying into the air.
The security man’s hands went limp before his body crashed into the ground with a loud thud.
A woman inside the café let out an ear-piercing scream at what she had just witnessed.
The scream was enough to draw the two Ogres’ attention towards the café.
Before long, they burst through the door, shattering the glass into countless shards.
All while Ray was still calmly eating as if the whole situation wasn’t his concern.
’I mean, it’s not really my business what these beasts do to them though. After all, these same humans wanted me dead a few days ago. So they can all die for all I care.
Besides, today is not the day for me to fight. I’m here to live life to the fullest.’
As he mused inwardly, he grabbed the egg roll and began munching on it while the Ogres instantly turned the café into a slaughterhouse.
Screams filled the air as some of the customers bolted towards the counter to hide behind it, while those too frozen to move were butchered like mere livestock.
The woman who had screamed earlier felt her legs freeze to the ground—unable to move an inch as an Ogre approached her with measured steps.
’Mhm... these pastries are top-notch.’
"What are you doing? Aren’t you a Vanguard member? Why aren’t you doing something? Save us!"
’... I need to kiss the chef’s hands. Whoever made this knows their onions.’
BAM!
The Ogre brought down its club, and the woman’s head was smashed into the ground with brain matter spraying out and dyeing the floor red.
Another ear-piercing scream rang out as the remaining customers began pushing one another in desperation, trying to get away from the beasts.
The waiters and those behind the counter had already escaped through the back door, which they locked behind them, leaving the customers banging against it desperately.
— Open! Please, open the door!
Slipping on the ground, a customer who had been pushed found it hard to get back on his feet when an Ogre reached him.
The beast then proceeded to slice his legs apart with its massive sword.
A painful scream ripped out of the man’s throat as he looked towards Ray, who was casually cleaning his strawberry cake plate with his tongue.
His eyes welled up with tears before the second Ogre bashed his head in with its club.
’Wait. Where’s that waiter from earlier? I will need more of these. And maybe a drink that isn’t coffee to wash them down?’
Seeing what happened to the other customer who had fallen, a second customer quickly picked himself up from the ground and darted towards Ray with hope in his eyes.
’May-maybe he didn’t hear? Probably he has earbuds on?’
Running towards the Tribrid, the customer finally reached him, his breath coming out in desperate pants.
"Pl-please help us—"
The man’s words were cut short as the Ogres reached him and swiftly decapitated him.
The man’s hands slid away from Ray’s table, his neck spurting blood like a fountain before his body slid and crashed into the ground with a loud thud.
Ray didn’t even move a muscle.
’You are lucky your blood didn’t touch my food. Tsk.’
The Ogres now stood over the Tribrid, visible looks of confusion appearing on their faces as they saw not a single hint of panic in the human’s eyes.
Even as they stood before him, he could be seen calmly reaching out for his chips.
’These chips are peak. I think I might be addicted. I haven’t tried the Pringles and the pastries yet though....’
As if furious that this human was ignoring them, one of the Ogres angrily lifted its club and sent it crashing downward while Ray’s chips were inches away from his mouth.
Bang! Crash! Shatter!
The club collided with the glass table and, within a second, it shattered along with all of Ray’s food.
The customers banging on the door heard the loud crash and instinctively turned towards where it came from, fearing that the Ogres were close.
"...."
Silence descended over the café as Ray’s hand froze inches from his mouth while he looked at his destroyed snacks and food scattered across the ground.
"....!!!"
His brows twitched irritably as he continued staring at the wasted food.
As if proud of itself, the second Ogre decided to take things a step further and sent its sword speeding towards Ray’s neck.
"Do-Do you know how much those cost?"
Whoosh!
Ray vanished from where he stood with such tremendous speed that he left an afterimage in his place while the sword struck empty air, tearing through the fading afterimage.
And then, he appeared directly before the Ogre with a furious light burning in his eyes.
"Well, I don’t. For all I know, those could cost all my money, and you destroyed them, bastard?!"
BAM! BOOOM!
His fist collided with the beast’s face with brutal force.
It didn’t take more than a second for the beast to be lifted off its feet and blasted backward with thunderous speed.
A second later—
It collided with a wall and instantly brought the whole thing down while its body went skidding across the chaotic streets.
Landing smoothly,
A pin-drop silence befell the café as Ray plunged the chips in his hand into his mouth, his eyes moving towards the second Ogre.
"I’m gonna put some dirt in your eyes," he uttered while chewing on his chips.
