Chapter 161: Insect Clan? A Great Tonic!

Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Insect Clan? A Great Tonic!

"The four Insect Clan members behind you and the six on the right are running over to flank you!" Pomegranate Seed reported to Gu Weilan immediately.

Gu Weilan’s expression became indescribable. She couldn’t help but ask Pomegranate Seed in her mind, "Ten of them flanking over forty Beastmen... Are the Insect Clan members idiots?"

"No, otherwise they wouldn’t have found a place to hide in the first place," Pomegranate Seed replied. "Host, the ones you killed screamed too loudly. The Insect Clan’s low-frequency vocal cord vibrations will attract all of their kind within a five-hundred-kilometer radius."

Gu Weilan understood. "So these ten Insect Clan members are afraid there are other troops nearby. If the reinforcements arrive and find out these ten didn’t attack us Beastmen, they’d be reprimanded?"

Pomegranate Seed shook its head. "If an Insect Clan member violates the Insect Mother’s attack order and gets caught, they will be eaten alive by the others."

Gu Weilan couldn’t help but feel a tingling numbness in her scalp. The social system of the Insect Clan was absolutely brutal!

"Does that mean they’re going to fight to the death now?"

"Yes. Furthermore, a unit of one hundred and twenty-three Insect Clan members is approaching from your ten o’clock direction! It will take them half an hour to arrive."

These ten Insect Clan members weren’t stupid, either. Remaining a few hundred meters away from Gu Weilan’s group, they didn’t advance at all, but rather ran back and forth. They were pretending as if a massive horde had arrived!

Ji Yanqing quickly noticed this anomaly. Just as Gu Weilan was wondering how to tell them that there actually weren’t that many enemies, Ji Yanqing spoke up. "We need to quickly eliminate the Insect Clan behind us, then circle around to the rear of the small group on our right to ambush them."

Without needing any further instructions, Gu Weilan immediately dashed off, following them as they rapidly sprinted toward the four Insect Clan members.

Ji Yanqing and the others struck extremely fast this time, so Gu Weilan only managed to snatch the vitality of a single enemy. She had no way of devouring the pure Vitality Energy from the ones Ji Yanqing and the Beastmen had killed. Therefore, Gu Weilan grabbed Lu Xuyin and took the lead, rushing toward the location of the other six Insect Clan members.

Ji Yanqing frowned slightly and ordered the Beastman Warriors to speed up to keep pace with Gu Weilan.

Shi Lingfeng’s gaze closely followed Gu Weilan. He had a lingering feeling that her Beast Rank should be on the verge of a breakthrough, yet he couldn’t quite understand why she hadn’t chosen to Promote yet.

Gu Weilan’s current Beast Rank status was as follows:

Light Element Ninth Rank: 235781/120000.

Wood Nine Rank: 221570/120000.

Ice Element Ninth Rank: 187593/120000.

Space Element ninth Rank: 162764/120000.

If she were to Promote right now, her body would expel impurities converted from the pure energy of the Insect Clan. For this reason, Pomegranate Seed had no intention of letting Gu Weilan Promote just yet.

They hadn’t even circled around to the backs of those six Insect Clan members before the creatures launched a ferocious, desperate attack against the Beastmen.

"The way they look right now, it’s as if they know they can’t survive, so they want to put up a desperate fight and take a bite out of us," Gu Weilan noted in her mind.

"Yes. The final shout from that Insect Clan member just now meant: ’You actually aren’t coming over to flank them! You’re leaving us to die!’" Pomegranate Seed confirmed. "This voice has already reached the ears of the over one hundred and twenty Insect Clan members rushing over."

Gu Weilan nodded slightly. "Awesome!"

While still running, Gu Weilan directly released her Wood Beast Rank Blast Poison Pod. She only whipped out four vines and deliberately kept the poison pods from detonating. Using those vines, she entangled the four Insect Clan members in the rear and frantically extracted the pure Vitality Energy from their bodies.

To her absolute shock, two of them were actually venomous bugs! Gu Weilan’s pupils constricted in horror.

"Host, release all the Poison Energy into the vines of the Blast Poison Pod!"

Gu Weilan’s lips were turning black. She hurried to follow Pomegranate Seed’s instructions and did so immediately.

Energy Guns, laser guns, and Beast Rank Energy from various elements were all fired toward the six Insect Clan members. One giant Insect Clan member with wings on its back took flight, dodging the incoming barrage. It lunged rapidly in front of Gu Weilan and the others. Its body, which was four times larger than hers, completely blocked the sunlight before them.

Gu Weilan could clearly see the creature’s mandibles. It was absolutely disgusting! And terrifying! The bristles on its six legs looked incredibly lethal!

As its mandibles shot straight for Gu Weilan’s face, Shi Lingfeng and Lu Xuyin were startled, instinctively stepping in front to shield her.

Clenching her jaw, Gu Weilan unleashed her vines, piercing right through the creature’s abdomen. In an instant, she began frantically devouring its energy! She no longer cared whether the vitality was pure or impure! Saving her life was the top priority!

At the same time, Gu Weilan cast an Ice Element slowing Talent Skill on the creature and fired her Energy Gun, blasting a hole clean through its mandibles!

Shi Lingfeng and Lu Xuyin simultaneously transformed into their Beast Forms. Using his razor-sharp wolf claws, Shi Lingfeng ripped the creature’s head clean off, while Lu Xuyin delivered a vicious tail whip that sent its lower half flying away.

"Host, your current energy is already enough to Promote to the Eleventh Rank," Pomegranate Seed reminded her. "As for the other hundred or so Insect Clan members, do you plan to face them, or lead everyone in a retreat?"

"Do we have a chance of winning?" Gu Weilan asked, her eyes growing bloodshot with battle lust at the thought of those one hundred and twenty enemies—which equated to a massive haul of pure, Devouring Energy.

"Your devouring has a limit. You should be able to feel it yourself; if you devour the energy of just two more Insect Clan members, your Talent Skill will be exhausted," Pomegranate Seed explained. "Unless you choose to Promote right here in battle. If you do that, you’ll be able to continue devouring.

"Of course, Ji Yanqing and the other Beastmen have been relying on Energy Cannons and laser guns up until now; they haven’t even unleashed their true Beastman strength. With over forty of you Beastmen against one hundred and twenty-three Insect Clan members, you still have a chance of winning."

Hardening her resolve, Gu Weilan decided to stay quiet, waiting as they collected the corpses of the defeated Insect Clan members.

Ji Yanqing couldn’t shake the feeling that Gu Weilan was still on high alert, entirely braced for battle. He couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. Calming his mind and listening intently, he caught the faint, distant buzzing of wings.

His eyes widened in an instant. "Everyone, stay alert! A massive swarm is coming!"

Having estimated the distance, Gu Weilan once again released her Blast Poison Pod Talent Skill. The vines slithered out aggressively like vipers, plunging straight into the bodies of two menacing, oncoming Insect Clan members.

Devour!

Even though her meridians felt like they were on the verge of exploding, she braced herself and devoured their energy like a madwoman. She didn’t have the time to look at her system panel right now, otherwise she would have noticed the numbers displayed under her Beast Ranks changing wildly.

"It’s time to Promote! Host, you won’t be able to hold on much longer! You’re going to explode!" Pomegranate Seed yelled. It knew right then and there that the person it had bound itself to was utterly ruthless!

Gritting her teeth, Gu Weilan greedily gulped down five more massive mouthfuls of pure energy before finally notifying the system in her mind, "Promote!"

The moment she chose to Promote, the stench of crushed bugs and dark red impurities began seeping out of her body.

Shi Lingfeng and Lu Xuyin, leading their comrades in arms, formed a solid, unwavering wall to shield Gu Weilan behind them. They didn’t even have a second to look back at the changes happening to her. Their eyes were locked entirely on the sight of over a hundred Insect Clan members swarming in from the distance, blotting out the very sky as they moved to surround them!
