Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Hello, Vocal Fry Old Guy!

Starting from that day, Gu Weilan not only treated more Beastmen daily but also began combat training with Lu Xuyin.

Shi Lingfeng watched Gu Weilan actually hold her own against Lu Xuyin, unable to help but widen his narrow, alluring eyes. After his initial shock, Shi Lingfeng gave a slight nod, thinking, "My Female Master is truly gifted!"

Lu Xuyin couldn’t help but grow increasingly excited.

By the end of the session, he realized his Female Master’s strikes were decisive and clean. Every move was stripped of wasted effort, consisting primarily of lethal techniques meant to take the opponent’s life.

This made his heart ache a little. He couldn’t help but picture the rough life of an orphaned female—unloved from childhood and ostracized by other Beastmen.

He thought, "Fortunately, I am here now! I must work even harder! I will be my Female Master’s strongest backing! From now on, no one will be allowed to bully her!"

Lu Xuyin couldn’t help but cast a covert, disdainful glance at Shi Lingfeng. This guy’s maternal family actually looked down on his Female Master!

A mocking smile played at the corners of Shi Lingfeng’s lips. He knew exactly how proud his Female Master was! Take Xie Jing, for example. Because he had made the wrong choice at the very beginning, even though the Female Master kept him around and even allowed him to bear her cub, what did it matter? She still hadn’t accepted him as a Beast Husband!

As for Lu Xuyin, he merely took advantage of the fact that the Female Master hadn’t canceled their match. He just let the six-month period expire so they would match automatically!

After missing the opportunity to consummate their marriage that day, Lu Xuyin wasn’t in a rush to be with Gu Weilan.

Firstly, he wanted to build a more intimate connection with his Female Master, allowing the union of their bodies and souls to happen naturally. Secondly, he had recently been receiving many Beastmen who had lost family members—and those fallen individuals had once been his comrades. Every day, he dealt with his own depression. He even blamed himself for not being resilient enough, feeling that if he had noticed the captains’ abnormal conditions sooner and ordered an early retreat, nearly a hundred lives wouldn’t have been lost.

When there were only three days left before their one-week agreement, Lu Xuyin suggested, "Weilan, how about we try the Holographic Simulation Training Room?

"On one hand, it’ll allow you to see what attack methods the Insect Clan excels at from within the simulated environment.

"On the other hand, I feel your reflexes and adaptability are more than ready for you to check out the holographic training."

Gu Weilan nodded. She was quite curious about this Holographic Simulation Training Room that Lu Xuyin mentioned. She also wondered what the difference was between killing the Insect Clan here and using her superpowers to kill mutated plants and animals in the Apocalypse.

Shi Lingfeng took an energy drink from his Space Button and handed it to her. "Lanlan, drink some of this first. Once we’re there, I’ll stay right by your side. You might feel a little dizzy or nauseous using the Holographic Simulation Helmet for the first time.

"If you feel severely dizzy or sick, tell me immediately!"

Lu Xuyin narrowed his eyes, quietly glancing at Shi Lingfeng. "Look at him showing off! So smooth with his words! How ridiculous! What a glib talker!" he grumbled inwardly.

Shi Lingfeng caught Lu Xuyin’s glare and could easily read the silent complaints in his eyes. Raising an eyebrow, a cold, mocking smile tugged at the corner of Shi Lingfeng’s mouth. He thought, "What? You didn’t show concern for our Female Master yourself, and now you won’t let me do it either?"

Lu Xuyin glared back, thinking, "Is it that I don’t care? I just didn’t get the chance to say it first!"

Shi Lingfeng didn’t bother continuing this visual sparring. He simply stared straight ahead, completely ignoring the meaning behind Lu Xuyin’s final glare.

Lu Xuyin’s chest heaved with anger! For the first time in his life, he had been blatantly ignored! This was too much bullying for a Beastman to take!

The smile on Shi Lingfeng’s lips grew wider. In his heart, he decided that Lu Xuyin was nothing more than a spoiled brat from the Dragon Clan—hardly a threat to worry about!

The three of them arrived at the Holographic Simulation Training Building near the Medical Hospital. The place was bustling with recovering Beastmen coming and going, all of whom were treating the holographic simulation training as a form of physical rehabilitation.

Just as Lu Xuyin finished registering, he spotted a male wearing a black combat uniform with epaulets on the shoulders. He had black hair, orange eyes, and striking, chiseled features with a narrow brow—making his face look as flawless as a finely crafted 3D model.

Lu Xuyin greeted the somewhat pale-looking male, "Commander Ji Yanqing! Are you here to train as well? Have your injuries healed enough for rehabilitation?"

Gu Weilan raised an eyebrow. Before Lu Xuyin could even introduce her, she stepped forward, reached out a hand to Ji Yanqing, and spoke in a creepy, grating vocal fry reminiscent of a horror movie ghost: "Hel~lo~ my~ name~ is~ Gu~ Wei~ lan~~"

Shi Lingfeng’s pupils quaked in shock. What was wrong with his Female Master? What on earth was that ghastly noise?

Ji Yanqing was initially stunned, freezing for a moment. Then, as if realizing something, his expression completely cracked.

Lu Xuyin was utterly dumbfounded. He wanted to scratch his head, vaguely sensing that this situation was incredibly bizarre.

Seeing that everyone had gone quiet and was staring at her in shock, Gu Weilan acted perfectly natural. As long as she wasn’t embarrassed, the embarrassment was entirely theirs!

Once she saw Ji Yanqing reach out, she immediately withdrew her hand and looped her arm around Lu Xuyin’s instead. "Your Commander Ji Yanqing here used to be one of my matches.

"He disgusted me with that vocal fry of his, and he didn’t stop until I proposed canceling the match!"

Ji Yanqing’s entire face flushed crimson. He could feel the passing Beastmen—whether male or the rare few females—staring at him with condemning, disdainful, and scornful eyes!

Lu Xuyin frowned slightly. He felt that such a method was despicable for a Beastman, but... why did it feel so inexplicably familiar? What was going on?

Just as Ji Yanqing opened his mouth to say, "I’m sorry..." Gu Weilan pulled Lu Xuyin and Shi Lingfeng away.

For a moment, Ji Yanqing could only lower his head. He felt that going in wouldn’t be right, but leaving would be extraordinarily awkward. Furthermore, hearing Gu Weilan expose his past behavior in public made his face burn.

He finally realized just how horribly wrong his actions had been. Why... why hadn’t he realized it before? But there was no point in saying anything now, was there? The damage had already been done.

Even though his original intention had been to avoid wasting the female Gu Weilan’s time so she could find another Beastman, thinking back on it now, it wasn’t as if he couldn’t afford the five million star coins fee to cancel the match. At the very least, he could have communicated properly with the female Gu Weilan and asked her to break the match...

Ji Yanqing pursed his lips, ultimately choosing to let himself off the hook. Things had already reached this point, so what else could be done?

Just when Ji Yanqing thought he and Gu Weilan would have no further entanglements, he received an order from Central Command. He was instructed to take a group of medically cleared Beastmen to escort Lu Xuyin’s squad, along with Gu Weilan and her Beast Husband, to the front lines!

Frowning, Ji Yanqing argued fiercely with his superior, "The situation on the front lines is currently critical. How can we let a female who didn’t even graduate from the Combat Department run off to the battlefield to fool around?"

Ji Yanqing’s superior maintained a stern expression and explained in a deep voice, "The parasitic insect clan in your body was entirely extracted by the female Gu Weilan!

"She is an expert when it comes to the parasitic insect clan, and she needs to go to the front lines to assess the situation!

"Perhaps this time she can even find a solution to the issue of preventing the parasitic insect clan!

"You are to follow commands! Obey your orders!"

Ji Yanqing pursed his lips. His superior had made it perfectly clear: the female Gu Weilan’s trip to the front lines would likely play a massive role! So what else could he do? He could only obey orders.
