My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 97: I Can Move the Door
Chapter 97: Chapter 97: I Can Move the Door
First, they could sketch the people Frank Keller remembered, then search for them by their likeness. That would determine if they were truly transferred to other care facilities or if they had been secretly moved elsewhere.
This approach was quick and efficient, allowing them to investigate on two fronts simultaneously without tipping off their targets.
The only question now was whether Frank Keller remembered their faces.
Sean Hughes smacked his forehead. He had completely forgotten they had a secret weapon: Beau.
"Don’t worry about that. Sometimes, when the pain was unbearable, I’d get through it by focusing on past events or my professional knowledge."
"I only saw those people from a distance, but I can still describe what they looked like." Frank Keller nodded, reassuring Zoe Sawyer and the others.
He knew he couldn’t give in. A better life was waiting for him, but only if he could beat this addiction. Then he could get back to properly handling his academic work.
Otherwise, it would always weigh on his mind, bound to resurface one day and become an obstacle to his progress.
Frank Keller was clear about his goals. He knew that if he gave up on himself, his family would be the ones to suffer, so he kept fighting.
It was this determination that had allowed him to endure so many rounds of the drug experiments.
With that confirmation, Sean Hughes wasted no time and called Officer Lee, asking him to get ahold of Beau.
Since Frank Keller’s return had to be kept secret, he and Beau spent nearly an hour on the phone, with Frank describing the faces until the sketches were done.
When Officer Lee sent over photos of the sketches, Frank Keller nodded emphatically. ’Yes, that’s them!’
’Some of the minor details might be off, but if you saw the person, you’d recognize them from the sketch immediately!’
With that confirmed, the primary objective of their visit was complete.
Evan Keller looked at his brother lying alone in the hospital bed, patted his shoulder, and said, "I’m going to ask the doctor if your condition is stable enough for you to stay at the station for a few days."
"When the operation begins, we don’t know what might happen. I won’t be able to pay as much attention to things here. If someone tries to harm you during that time, I won’t be able to get here right away."
This idea had also occurred to him because Zoe Sawyer had noticed something was off about Boss Thorne.
That’s why Evan Keller wanted to move him to the station first and bring him back to the hospital to continue his treatment after the situation was resolved.
But there was no need to tell Frank about this. It wouldn’t help and would only make him anxious.
Frank Keller, of course, didn’t object. Evan Keller was his older brother; he would never do anything to harm him.
Besides, Evan was the professional in this area. He must have had his reasons for making such a decision.
Evan Keller went to ask Frank’s attending physician. After getting the okay, he quickly packed his brother’s things.
He messaged Heath Hale and, upon learning that Boss Thorne had indeed shown up, he felt a surge of relief about his decision.
The three of them dodged Boss Thorne’s attention, got Frank into the car, and as soon as Heath Hale jumped in, they sped back to the station.
After getting Frank settled, the four of them headed toward the chief’s office.
They placed the voice recorder and the sketches from Beau on the chief’s desk.
"This is what we got from our trip," Heath Hale said, pointing to the sketches. "I think we should start here. Let’s find out if these people are really safe in other care facilities or if something has happened to them."
Due to the time difference, it was night where they were but daytime at the target location.
Moving during the day would be too risky, so they had to wait until the next day.
This also gave them a chance to rest and gather their strength, ensuring all preparations were in order.
To rescue their compatriots as efficiently as possible, they needed to go in fully prepared.
After listening to the recording, the chief nodded. He then looked at Zoe Sawyer, his tone gentle. "Sawyer, are you up for this?"
’Can Zoe’s body really handle transporting people internationally?’
Zoe Sawyer nodded. She could handle it.
"Good. By the way, you remember that case I sent you to support a few days ago? The provincial bureau has made its decision. Starting tomorrow, a dedicated team will be here to protect you."
"You’ll have to take them with you wherever you go. They’ll also be taking over your training, alongside Heath Hale." The chief made sure to inform the four of them of this development.
After speaking, the chief broke into a sly grin, promising a surprise for them tomorrow.
But when they pressed for details, he clammed up, only saying they would find out tomorrow.
Early the next morning, Zoe Sawyer walked into the office and saw Barry Quinn and Monkey sitting on the sofa. She blinked, a little stunned.
"It’s good to see you again," Barry Quinn said as he and Monkey walked up to Zoe. After a crisp salute, they extended their hands with a smile. "Per our orders, our primary objective is now your protection. We’ll also be taking over your training."
Zoe Sawyer quickly shook their hands. It clicked instantly. ’So this is the surprise the chief was talking about!’
After Zoe, Barry, and Monkey had exchanged pleasantries for a bit, Evan Keller and the others, who were already prepared, walked over.
"We’re short on time. We can catch up when we get back."
Barry Quinn and Monkey nodded, then began putting on the gear they had set aside.
Soon, the two squads for the operation were assembled in the office.
Officer Lee projected images onto the wall from his computer. They were Beau’s sketches.
Next to them were several other photographs.
"According to our informant," Officer Lee began, "these are all people he encountered at the care facility."
"The first three individuals have been confirmed deceased. The official cause was an accidental fall from a cliff during a hike. By the time their families arrived, the bodies had already been cremated. The other five are currently unaccounted for and considered missing."
"Our objectives for this mission are twofold: first, determine the status of our compatriots and rescue them. Second, verify what connection the owner of this care facility has to Ruby." Officer Lee laid out the mission’s primary goals for everyone present.
Once he was sure everyone understood, he handed a modified remote-controlled surveillance car he had prepared to Zoe Sawyer.
Once again, Zoe Sawyer gripped the doorknob, her mind silently repeating the address of the care facility.
When that familiar sensation washed over her again, Zoe Sawyer opened the door just a crack, revealing the same grassy field where they had found Frank Keller.
She carefully placed the remote-controlled car on the other side.
Officer Lee took control, the car’s 360-degree camera taking in the entire surrounding area.
Although the area seemed empty at first glance, there was a guard stationed at each of the four corners of the yard, each holding a gun.
Their ’door’ was positioned right in the middle of the yard. If they had stepped out recklessly, they would have been spotted instantly.
Evan Keller frowned. ’How are we going to take out these four guards without alerting anyone else?’
"I can move the door!"
