My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 67: You Took Him Away From Me
Chapter 67: Chapter 67: You Took Him Away From Me
Before Zoe Sawyer could even speak, Evan Keller walked over. "Miss, do you know these two?"
"...Yes. That’s my roommate and her boyfriend." Lily Golding’s voice was faint and unsteady, as if she were terrified by the scene before her.
"Alright, please come over here and give us the details." Evan Keller called over a junior officer and had him take Lily Golding aside for questioning.
Meanwhile, Shannon Shelby, who had collapsed on the ground, was helped to her feet and moved aside to avoid interfering with the medical examiner’s work.
Wearing gloves, Lynn Grant gave the body a preliminary examination.
"Judging by the wound, the killer likely used a sharp, knife-like object to stab the victim in the heart. This was the primary cause of death." Lynn Grant stood up and reported her findings to Evan Keller, who was standing nearby.
Evan Keller scanned the surroundings. "Who discovered the scene? Bring them over for questioning."
Then, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale saw a familiar figure being escorted over.
"The cleaning lady? ’Something feels off about her.’" Zoe Sawyer watched Aunt Monroe being brought over, leaning closer to Heath Hale in confusion.
"Everyone we ran into this afternoon is gathered here, and they’re all connected to this murder. It’s too much of a coincidence." Heath Hale frowned as he watched Aunt Monroe being questioned by Evan Keller, feeling like he was overlooking something.
Zoe Sawyer touched her face. ’This situation feels just like a Conan episode.’
’Everyone gathered here knows each other, and they’re all suspects.’
Just then, Zoe Sawyer saw Aunt Monroe point in her direction.
Evan Keller nodded while jotting something down. After a little while, he closed his notebook.
When he walked over, Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but ask, "How did it go? Did you get anything?"
"The lady said she found him while cleaning. This path is very remote, and not many people usually come this way, so she cleans it less frequently.
"This afternoon, she was planning to just do a quick, perfunctory sweep over there when she saw the victim lying motionless on the ground. She immediately called the police and waited for us to arrive." Evan Keller briefly recounted the story of the discovery.
By the time they had arrived, the school had already positioned teachers to block curious students, so the scene wasn’t too contaminated.
Besides, the first person to discover a body is often under greater suspicion, so Evan Keller asked some more detailed questions.
But she answered smoothly, with no inconsistencies from start to finish.
For now, Evan Keller could only tentatively rule her out.
As for the murder weapon, there was no sign of it.
Furthermore, the campus is huge. Hiding something would be incredibly easy, making it nearly impossible to find.
"When did the victim’s girlfriend get here?" Heath Hale asked, looking at Shannon Shelby, who was being supported by a female officer with an arm around her shoulder.
He couldn’t put his finger on it, but something about Shannon Shelby felt off.
Soon, Heath Hale’s sharp eyes caught something: while Shannon Shelby was crying, though her left hand was clenched into a tight fist, a red scratch was visible on her palm.
"She was already here when the first officers arrived. She wouldn’t say a word no matter what they asked, she just kept crying." Evan Keller rubbed his temples in frustration.
She’d start crying the moment he tried to speak, crying whenever he asked a question. It left Evan Keller completely exasperated; the questioning couldn’t proceed at all.
"There’s something wrong with her palm. Keep an eye on it," Heath Hale said, gesturing toward Shannon Shelby.
Zoe Sawyer remained silent the whole time, not even reacting when she saw Lily Golding walk over to comfort Shannon Shelby.
She and Lily Golding were friends, but since Lily was now connected to the murder victim, it was best to keep her distance in this situation to avoid suspicion.
Just as Zoe Sawyer expected Shannon Shelby to fall into Lily Golding’s arms and sob, she was shocked to see Shannon, who had looked like her world was ending just a moment ago, suddenly turn vicious. She violently shoved her roommate, who had come to comfort her, to the ground.
"This is all your fault! You must be so proud of yourself! Stealing him from me! What are you doing here now, putting on a fake act?!" Shannon Shelby’s hoarse shrieks echoed in the air.
Lily Golding, propped up on her hands on the ground, looked completely bewildered. "Shannon, what are you talking about? Who did I steal? I didn’t kill your boyfriend! I only came down because I heard from the girls in the next dorm that you were at the scene."
Shannon Shelby tried to lunge forward, flailing wildly, but was held back by the female officer beside her.
Perhaps overcome with emotion, Shannon Shelby’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
"This afternoon, she looked at me like I was going to steal her roommate, all wary and on guard. Now she looks like she wants to eat her alive." Zoe Sawyer watched Shannon Shelby and Lily Golding, clicking her tongue in amazement.
’Seems that boyfriend was more important to Shannon Shelby than Lily Golding is.’
Zoe Sawyer couldn’t really comment on the young couple’s problems, so she could only mutter her complaints to Heath Hale under her breath.
Heath Hale frowned, watching Shannon Shelby’s body begin to tremble.
Shannon Shelby’s body started shaking uncontrollably, her hands twitching beyond her control.
Lily Golding, who had still been a little angry, forgot everything else and scrambled over to her side. She expertly fished a small vial from Shannon Shelby’s pocket, shook out a pill, and fed it to her.
Soon, the frequency of Shannon Shelby’s tremors began to decrease, and her eyes slowly fluttered open.
When she saw Lily Golding beside her, she suddenly threw her arms around her, burying her face in her neck. "Lily, my boyfriend is dead. How could he just leave me all alone?"
Lily Golding let out a sigh of relief. ’Shannon must have just been so heartbroken that she acted that way toward me.’
"It’s okay, it’s okay. The police will find the killer and get justice for him. You still have me, so don’t be too sad." Lily Golding returned the hug, gently patting Shannon Shelby’s back to soothe her.
As Lily Golding patted her, Shannon Shelby’s grip tightened. "You promised! You can never leave me! I’m going to cling to you for the rest of my life!"
"Okay, okay. I’ll always be by your side," Lily Golding replied as if this were routine, picking up on Shannon Shelby’s cue and placating her.
’Sigh. Shannon is just too insecure; that’s why she says things like this.’
As Lily Golding thought this, her hand never stopped its soothing motion.
The female officer standing guard nearby couldn’t help but frown when she heard this.
’Are they really just friends?’
’Why does that sound so creepy?’
’And her mood now is completely different from her reaction just moments ago.’
’Is this what friendship is like for students these days?’
Watching the entire scene unfold from a distance, Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but frown. "The contrast between before and after is just too much. A moment ago, she looked like she wanted to tear Lily’s head off, and now they’re acting like best buddies for life."
"Something’s not right."
