My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 54: Can a Location Be Pinpointed with Just a Face?
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Can a Location Be Pinpointed with Just a Face?
A man who walked in overheard their conversation and couldn’t help but curse.
’If you have time to stand around spouting nonsense, you’d be better off packing up faster!’
"If this base gets exposed because of how slow you are, you’ll be sitting right alongside this batch of pigs." After glaring at the two researchers, he hurriedly pried a small object out from under the dissection table, clutched it in his hand, and left.
He still had many things to handle.
The police wouldn’t be able to trace them here that quickly, but at the same time, they also needed to spend a great deal of time getting rid of the evidence.
Just abandoning everything and running was the stupidest thing they could do.
’And those guys watching the police station are useless. All those cops left and they didn’t even notice, letting them just snatch our people!’
Meanwhile, after Evan Keller and Sean Hughes brought Stone the Second and Boss Moss back to the station, they locked the two of them up together.
The room was bare, save for the single lamp overhead.
Boss Moss surveyed his surroundings, his brow furrowed.
’This looks an awful lot like a police station...’
’No, that’s not right. The bungalow was far from the police station, and we didn’t walk very far. We didn’t even get in a car.’
’This must be some temporary police holding site.’
’If that’s the case, maybe I still have a chance to escape?’
"We’re running out of empty interrogation and holding cells at the station. This single case has roped in so many people. It’s like pulling up potatoes—you grab one, and a whole mess of them comes up with it, roots, mud, and all." Evan Keller stood at the cell door, rubbing the bridge of his nose, his tone heavy with exhaustion.
Sean Hughes clapped him on the shoulder. "We’ll just have to work a little harder. Once this is all wrapped up, it’ll be a major commendation. And that other case you’re always hung up on? Maybe we’ll finally get a lead."
Evan Keller let out a dry laugh but didn’t respond.
’Until all of them are caught, we can’t send these kids home, or they’ll just be targeted again.’
"Alright, let’s go see how Zoe Sawyer is doing. We’ve got a pile of work waiting for us," Evan Keller said. He stretched, clasped his hands behind his head, and started toward the office.
His gait was a little lighter than usual.
’Thank god for Zoe Sawyer. Without her, I don’t even know how much more effort it would’ve taken to get this far with these cases.’
When Evan Keller and Sean Hughes reached the office, they discovered Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale weren’t there.
They asked Officer Lee and found out that Barry Quinn had asked them to head over to the infirmary a few minutes ago.
Once they knew where to go, Evan and Sean changed direction and headed straight for the infirmary.
Barry Quinn’s three teammates were still recovering over there.
When they arrived, they found the little girl rescued from the shipping container nestled in the arms of a now-conscious Monkey.
Her voice was quiet, but her words were clear as she recounted everything she knew to Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale.
Barry Quinn sat nearby, occasionally helping the little girl take a sip of water.
After the little girl finished speaking, she noticed Evan Keller standing in the doorway, and her expression instantly brightened.
Zoe Sawyer and the others noticed her expression and followed her gaze. When they saw it was Evan Keller and Sean Hughes, they waved for them to come in.
"You did great. Do you remember anything else?" Barry Quinn asked softly, stroking the little girl’s head.
The little girl tilted her head in thought for a moment, then shook it.
She had managed to escape not only because it was dark and the guards were lax, but also for a more important reason: she had run into Monkey along the way, and he had sheltered her in his arms for the rest of the journey.
It was a miracle she could remember that much at all.
Barry Quinn stroked the little girl’s head, then turned to Monkey, who hadn’t said a word the entire time. "You just focus on recovering here. The higher-ups are sending someone to debrief you. When they get here, just tell them everything you know."
Monkey nodded, his arm around the little girl tightening slightly.
Having gotten the information they needed, the others left so they wouldn’t disturb them any further.
Once they were all outside, Barry Quinn began, "I’ve reported the situation on my end. My superiors have decided to dispatch several teams to come over and fully cooperate with your operation.
"After we’ve arrested the people at the main base, we’ll need Miss Sawyer’s help. We want to pinpoint the location of the trafficked victims across the border."
"As we rescue them, we’d also like to destroy their port, if possible."
Because that location is already across the border, sending our people in would be fraught with difficulty. They’d risk being exposed at any moment, ambushed en route, or attacked.
This was where Zoe Sawyer’s ability once again highlighted its importance.
We could drop in on them like a bolt from the blue, catching them completely off guard when they least expect it!
Heath Hale had other ideas. ’Once this case is over,’ he thought, ’could we use this to locate some of the big drug traffickers?’
’And what about fugitives who’ve been on the run for years...’
The more he considered it, the higher the possibilities seemed.
But the matter at hand was the human skinning case.
"We can’t just agree to that second operation," Heath Hale said, refusing to commit outright and laying his conditions out clearly for Barry Quinn. "We can discuss it if and when the time comes, provided Zoe Sawyer is in a stable condition and the Chief signs off on it."
They couldn’t be reckless with Zoe Sawyer’s well-being.
"Of course."
Barry Quinn’s expression remained unchanged; Heath Hale’s conditions were only reasonable.
Having reached an understanding, the group went over the current progress of the case once more.
Barry Quinn took out his cell phone and made a call.
A man’s voice answered almost immediately. "We’re all set over here. As soon as you confirm the factory’s location, we can move out!"
"Zoe, are you still holding up?" Evan Keller asked, looking at her as he quickly summarized what they had just discussed. "If you can manage, we want to move as soon as possible, before they have a chance to run."
If they waited to interrogate Boss Moss for the location, the culprits would likely be long gone by the time they arrived.
So striking now, catching them completely off guard, was the best course of action!
Zoe Sawyer nodded, but a look of doubt crossed her face. "I can do it, but I don’t have any information about that location. I might not be able to pinpoint it accurately."
Then, as if she’d remembered something, Zoe Sawyer’s eyes lit up. "I have an idea! But I can’t guarantee it’ll work!"
She had previously forced herself to watch the entirety of Joy’s death through one of her doors. The memory was so deeply seared into her mind that she could still recall every single frame.
She also remembered what many of the other captives looked like.
’If I only know a face, with no other information, can I still get a precise location?’
Zoe Sawyer didn’t know, but she felt it was worth a try.
’If it works, the limitations of her doors will be significantly reduced!’
"Let’s try it!"
