My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 485: Zoe Dawson
Chapter 485: Chapter 485: Zoe Dawson
Since the school occasionally conducted follow-ups with alumni, the counselor kept the WhatsApp contacts of every class president for convenience.
Soon, she followed the notes on her contacts, found the class president of Mila’s class, and asked about Zoe Dawson.
The class president was a little confused by the sudden call. After hearing the question, he quickly opened his social media, scrolled through it, and swiftly locked onto a name.
"Ma’am, it’s Zoe Dawson’s engagement party today. I just sent you the address." The class president didn’t waste any time and quickly sent a screenshot of the post to the counselor.
Once she had the information she needed, the counselor said nothing more, only that they would talk again later.
"This is the location of Zoe Dawson’s engagement party. Officers, I have to ask, what exactly is going on?" The counselor’s expression was grim.
’Both of them are my students. If Mila’s case is connected to Zoe Dawson, then my workload is definitely going to increase later on.’
Zoe Sawyer glanced at Heath Hale, her expression questioning.
’Should we tell her?’
Heath Hale jotted down the address before turning to the counselor. "There’s no reason not to tell you. Zoe Dawson tricked Mila, led her to a remote location, and then sold her to human traffickers.
"Ma’am, thank you for your cooperation today. We have work to do, so we’ll be going now."
Knowing Zoe Dawson’s location, they had to move quickly to apprehend her and bring her to justice.
Only after the group of officers in front of her had left did the counselor slump back against her chair, deflated.
’Great. Once the case report is released, my workload is definitely going to increase.’
Zoe Dawson was a local, and so was her fiancé, so the party was being held at a well-known restaurant in the city.
Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale rushed to the location with their team, and as they arrived, they could hear the strains of music coming from inside.
"This is definitely going to be an unforgettable engagement party for Zoe Dawson, in more ways than one." Zoe Sawyer stood at the entrance, listening to the sounds inside, and couldn’t help but make the wry comment.
’But she brought all of this on herself.’
On the way over, Zoe Sawyer had used her ability to look back in time to watch the entire process of how Mila was trafficked.
The process was basically just as Mila had described it. Zoe Dawson was entirely to blame.
Moreover, from this review of the past, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale had found the evidence needed to convict Zoe Dawson.
"The only way to keep something a secret is to not do it in the first place. The moment she conceived of this plan and put it into action, this outcome was inevitable." Heath Hale raised his hand, signaling for the officers behind him to get ready.
They didn’t know if the guests inside would obstruct the arrest, so they had to be fully prepared from the outset.
"Oh? Police? Is there something going on?"
Just then, a surprised female voice came from behind Zoe Sawyer and the others.
The group turned toward the voice. It was two well-dressed, middle-aged women. From their vaguely excited expressions, they could tell the two were here to attend the engagement party.
"Excuse me, ladies, what is your relationship to the couple getting engaged?" Heath Hale asked.
"Hmph. We were invited by the bride’s side. Just returning a social obligation." One of them curled her lip disdainfully, her words hinting at her displeasure with the Dawson Family. "Hey, you still haven’t answered. What’s happened that brought you all here?"
As she spoke, she tried to edge closer, her expression full of curiosity.
An officer from behind them put out a hand, stopping her from getting any closer to Zoe Sawyer, and brushed her off with a few vague words.
"Let’s go. We need to grab her now," Zoe Sawyer whispered, patting Heath Hale’s arm.
It was as she’d said before: this case involved too many deaths and was simply too vile. It had to be resolved as quickly as possible.
This wasn’t just about accountability to the public, but also about getting justice for the victims.
Heath Hale nodded, signaling for the team behind him to follow.
The two women who had just been asking questions quickly followed them inside. Something big was clearly happening, and there was no way they were going to miss it!
Since Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale had spent a few minutes lingering outside, they had attracted the attention of some passing restaurant patrons.
In ones and twos, they gathered at the entrance, crowding the doorway to look inside and see what was happening.
The commotion also drew the attention of Zoe Dawson and her party inside the banquet hall.
"Hey? Why are the police here? Did something happen?" one guest asked curiously.
"I don’t know, maybe. Keep your voice down. We’ll see what’s happening," another guest replied, shaking his head. He had no idea what was going on either!
Standing beside her parents and fiancé, Zoe Dawson watched Zoe Sawyer and the others draw closer, a sense of inexplicable panic rising in her heart.
’Don’t tell me they found out what I did!’
As the thought crossed her mind, Zoe Dawson’s eyes darted to a corner of the hall. She saw a man whose face was just as pale as hers, and her heart settled slightly.
’The guy who took her is fine. I’ve only done this once. I shouldn’t be discovered.’
Even as she tried to reassure herself, Zoe Dawson still felt a wave of terror.
"Zoe, what’s wrong? You look so pale," Mrs. Dawson asked worriedly, noticing her daughter’s ashen, bloodless face.
Her fiancé beside her remained silent, but his eyes were fixed on Zoe Dawson with concern.
"I-It’s nothing. I just don’t understand why the police are here." Zoe Dawson suppressed the panic in her heart as her eyes instinctively swept across the hall.
She noticed that everyone had stopped what they were doing and was now staring at the approaching officers.
They all wanted to know what was happening. Why would police show up at a perfectly good engagement party!
The groom’s parents also noticed what was happening, ceased their mingling, and turned to walk over.
Hearing that, Mrs. Dawson thought her daughter was just worried the engagement party would be disrupted. She nudged her husband and said, "Go ask what’s going on. Today is Zoe’s engagement party; don’t let them ruin it."
Mr. Dawson nodded, but before he could walk over to inquire, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale had already positioned their team in front of them.
Heath Hale flashed his badge and then looked at Zoe Dawson. "Zoe Dawson? There’s a case we need you to cooperate with us on. Please come with us."
Before Zoe Dawson could speak, Mrs. Dawson couldn’t help but cut in, "Today is our Zoe’s engagement party. Can’t whatever this is wait until tomorrow? Don’t disturb the children on their special day."
Although she didn’t know what was really happening, she noticed that the moment the officer finished speaking, her daughter’s face turned exceptionally grim, and the hand gripping her arm tightened unconsciously.
’Something must have happened, and my daughter is the one to blame.’
’No!’
’I absolutely cannot let them take Zoe away like this!’
’Otherwise, this engagement party will be ruined!’
