My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 482: Too Painful to Pass Out
Chapter 482: Chapter 482: Too Painful to Pass Out
Mila looked up, her eyes fixed on Evan Keller and the others in front of her.
They had suffered so much, and help had never come. Now, they were just saving themselves.
Mila had never felt she’d done anything wrong. If she had to name one regret, it would be failing to escape immediately after everything was done and getting caught by the police.
"The law will be the judge of what you’ve done." Evan Keller didn’t answer Mila’s question. Looking at his notes, he had pieced together the sequence of events.
A group of victims had tried to save themselves, but their methods were a bit extreme, and people had died.
However, if this hadn’t happened, the situation on the other side probably wouldn’t have been discovered so quickly. Victoria Ford and the others would have had to suffer for much longer.
"What’s the story with Naomi Rivers? Once Selene Rivers, who was sent to the hospital, wakes up, we’ll need to contact their parents," Evan Keller asked, looking at Mila.
He needed to get this straight. Otherwise, he was afraid that when the Rivers’ parents arrived, Naomi Rivers might become agitated, and it would be bad if something unexpected happened.
"Didn’t Naomi already tell you? It was that adopted daughter of her parents who got her sent here.
After she arrived, because of instructions from Selene Rivers and her status, the scum in the village singled her out, forcing her to do all the dirty, exhausting work.
We were all being watched back then, and we were buried in work ourselves. We couldn’t spare a hand to help. That’s how she lost her first child." Mila’s expression turned exceptionally grim as she recalled what Naomi Rivers had endured when she first arrived.
If Naomi Rivers hadn’t been used to hardship since she was a child and adapted quickly, she probably would have been broken and died here within two years.
"Did they live in Brellwood all the time?" Evan Keller thought of this, tapped the table, and asked.
With so many dead, it was impossible to identify all of them right away.
Mila shook her head. "We don’t know. But they always came in batches, a new group every half-month or so.
We only made our move because this was such a rare opportunity, with all of them gathered in one place."
’Killing just a few wouldn’t have been enough. If we were going to get revenge, it was best to finish them all off at once.’
As for what these people were called or where they came from, she truly didn’t know.
"Alright. Thank you for your cooperation." He had asked what he needed to and learned what he had to. Now, all that was left was to identify the deceased and find out who their contact was.
Just as Evan Keller was about to leave the interrogation room, Mila suddenly blurted out, "The classmate who sold me, will she be punished?"
"Of course. What she did was a crime. We won’t let it slide. Do you remember her name?" Evan Keller’s tone was firm as he asked.
Not right now, though. They could only spare the manpower to deal with those people after the current situation was resolved.
"I’ll never forget her name as long as I live!" Mila said, gritting her teeth.
The person who had completely ruined her life and made her suffer for so many years—she would never forget her name!
"Good. We’ll need your cooperation then. Give us her personal information, and we’ll go and arrest her." Evan Keller nodded at Mila before leaving with his team.
With Evan Keller’s interrogation concluded for now, there was also a major breakthrough on Sean Hughes’s end.
Not long after Selene Rivers was brought to the hospital, she regained consciousness, thanks to the doctors’ treatment and a night for the drugs to metabolize.
Selene Rivers was jolted awake by the pain in her legs and face.
Upon realizing she was in a hospital, she began to scream hysterically, shouting for the doctors to call the police and demanding to contact her parents.
The commotion was so loud it drew the attention of passing doctors, nurses, and even some patients’ families.
Hearing the noise from outside the door, Sean Hughes pushed it open and walked in.
"Police! Police! I want to report a crime! Naomi Rivers conspired with three strangers to slash my face and break my legs.
You brought me to the hospital for treatment, so you must have caught them, right?!" Lying in her hospital bed, Selene Rivers looked at the uniformed Sean Hughes standing before her, her voice growing extremely agitated. "Where are my parents? Contact my parents! When they find out what happened to me, they’ll definitely come see me!"
Sean Hughes stood by the hospital bed, staring down at Selene Rivers, whose face was wrapped in thick gauze. "Don’t worry," he said. "Once the investigation is over, we will contact your and Naomi Rivers’s parents.
Since you’re awake, I’ll have a doctor come in to check on you. If your condition is stable, we’ll need you to cooperate with us and give a statement."
"Give a statement? I’m the victim here! Shouldn’t you be arresting the culprits and calling my parents to come get me?" Selene Rivers’s hand trembled as she cautiously touched her cheek. "I want to go back to the city! I need to go to the best hospital! My face can’t be scarred!"
The more she spoke, the more agitated Selene Rivers became. If her injured legs weren’t restraining her, Sean Hughes had no doubt she would immediately struggle out of bed and crawl out to find someone to take her home.
"Regarding the matter of you conspiring with your friends to send Naomi Rivers to a remote mountain village, and then telling her parents that she had died abroad.
We will need your cooperation, Miss Rivers, to provide a statement on that matter, so we can give your parents a proper explanation," Sean Hughes said, his face devoid of expression.
The eavesdroppers outside the door couldn’t help but gasp. This woman, who looked so pitiful, had actually done something so monstrous!
’You really can’t judge a book by its cover!’
Selene Rivers’s heart leaped into her throat. Her mind, previously clouded by rage, cleared in an instant.
’That’s right! How could I have forgotten that I’d set Naomi Rivers up? Legally, she’s a dead person right now!’
But she quickly composed herself, her expression turning calm. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. I only found her there when I went with my boyfriend to his home to meet his parents."
At the mention of her boyfriend, Selene Rivers’s expression stiffened for a moment. She remembered seeing those people fall one after another before she passed out. She quickly asked, "Where’s my boyfriend? What happened to my boyfriend? I want to see him!"
"Your boyfriend is dead, along with everyone else in Brellwood," Sean Hughes said, not bothering to hide the truth.
The case was too severe. The local police would have to resolve it immediately. The subsequent investigation would be anything but quiet, so the truth couldn’t be hidden for long.
Besides, Selene Rivers was a key figure in this case and would need to be interrogated later, so there was no point in hiding it.
Upon hearing her boyfriend was dead, Selene Rivers’s eyes rolled back. She tried to faint to avoid questioning.
But the pain in her face and legs was too intense.
She couldn’t pass out.
