Chapter 473: Chapter 473: Can You All See?

"No, no, Mrs. Holloway," Jane said, waving her hands. "I wasn’t sure either.

Besides, my boyfriend was the one who gave me the location. He’s a police officer, and serving the people is his duty."

"Still, you helped me out in a huge way. When your boyfriend comes to visit, you have to let me know! I’ll cook you two something delicious!"

Faye Hughes was worried about the old woman who’d been taken to the hospital. After saying this, she hurriedly called her family over and rushed off in the direction of the hospital.

The rescue team members and other villagers continued to discuss the matter with great interest. "Jane’s boyfriend is really something else, huh? To find her location that fast."

"I’m still a bit curious how he found the location so quickly. We searched all day and couldn’t find her," a villager said in a puzzled tone after taking a big gulp of bottled water.

"The police from the city must have more advanced equipment. That’s probably how they located her so fast," another rescue team member suggested hesitantly. Otherwise, he had no other explanation.

Just then, a confused voice piped up from the crowd. "But why did the old woman head up the mountain?"

"If I remember correctly, that’s the route she used to take to her parents’ home when she was younger.

Her family lived on the other side of the mountain. Before the roads here were paved, crossing the mountain was the fastest way—it took about three hours. Going by the road around the mountain took at least a full day," an older woman about the same age as the one who got lost explained from within the crowd.

Just as she finished, she seemed to remember something else and added, "But her parents passed away a long time ago, and her brothers moved away.

When people get old, their minds get muddled, and they forget things. She probably thought her parents were still alive and just wanted to go home."

The younger people in the crowd who knew about Alzheimer’s disease fell silent. In the early stages of the illness, patients forget recent events but vividly recall things from their youth.

"Alright, let’s break it up. She’s been found, and that’s what matters. Everyone go home and get some rest," the village chief announced. He stepped forward, settled things with the rescue team, and then shooed the villagers home to bed.

Just then, the phone in the village chief’s pocket rang. He pulled it out and saw it was Faye Hughes calling.

He answered quickly. After hanging up, his voice rose in excitement. "The old woman is fine! She just caught a chill and has a fever, but she’s awake now.

Faye said that tomorrow, her family is going to slaughter a pig and some chickens to treat the whole village to a feast to thank everyone for their hard work!"

After his announcement, he made sure to tell the rescue team members to come as well.

They had worked just as hard today, so they certainly couldn’t be left out of the feast.

Those who were still around acknowledged the invitation before heading their separate ways.

As for Jane, once she heard the old woman was okay, she stepped aside to call her boyfriend. She filled him in on what happened and thanked him profusely.

Cameron acknowledged her thanks, his expression one of pure shock as he stared in the direction of the Team One office.

’He knew Team One was good at finding people, but in less than half an hour? That speed is terrifying!’

After hanging up, Cameron didn’t go over to bother them. Instead, he sent an update to Sean Hughes on WhatsApp.

The next morning, Zoe Sawyer arrived to find a massive fruit platter sitting on her desk.

"Huh? Which one of you bought a fruit platter?" Zoe asked in surprise.

Sean Hughes walked over, snagged a piece of fruit, and said, "It’s from Cameron, from Team Two next door. You know, since you helped find that missing old woman yesterday?

Well, because of that, he’s basically been given the seal of approval by his girlfriend’s parents. He also won over the entire village. I heard her parents even asked if he was free to discuss a wedding date.

He bought a ton of fruit first thing this morning, sliced it all up in his own office, and brought it over to say thanks."

He sent all the juiciest, sweetest pieces over to Team One. The leftover bits and pieces were devoured by the pack of hungry wolves in his own office.

"Sounds like wedding bells are just around the corner," Zoe teased, popping a piece of fruit into her mouth.

Seeing Heath Hale wander over, she speared a piece for him as well.

Heath lowered his gaze to the fruit held out in front of him and, in one smooth motion, leaned in and ate it right off the fork in Zoe’s hand. He then ruffled her hair and complimented, "Sweet. And delicious."

The entire sequence of actions was as smooth as flowing water, his expression perfectly natural.

Zoe, who had intended for Heath to simply take the fork, froze. Once she processed what he had just done, her entire face flushed crimson.

’She wasn’t made of wood, after all.’

’Heath was being so obvious. How could she possibly not have noticed?’

"Ahem... as long as it’s sweet, that’s good," Zoe stammered, frantically shoving the fork into Heath’s hand before scurrying away toward the water cooler.

’So thirsty! I need some water!’

Sean Hughes shot Heath a glare. "What do you think you’re doing? Behave yourself, we’re at the office!"

’You scared her off!’

Heath just shrugged. Using the small plastic fork Zoe had passed him, he speared another piece of fruit before walking away.

’A slow burn can’t be the only strategy,’ Heath thought. ’Sometimes, you have to make your feelings known.’

The others in the office had, of course, witnessed the entire scene. They exchanged knowing glances and winks, their eyes full of playful teasing.

They weren’t against office romances. Besides, why let a good thing go to an outsider?

Evan Keller, who had been sitting at his desk without moving, watched Heath and clicked his tongue. "Tsk, tsk," he muttered, his eyes filled with mock disdain.

’It’s been this long, and his progress is still that slow!’

Zoe gulped down a large mouthful of water, trying to calm her racing heart.

Before she had a chance to sort out her thoughts, the door began to emit a blinding white light. The doorknob jiggled back and forth, signaling to Zoe that there was a situation and she needed to come quickly.

’An emergency!’

Zoe couldn’t worry about anything else. She pushed aside her earlier embarrassment, set her cup down on a desk, and strode toward the door to the adjacent office.

With the door making such a commotion, everyone else in the office naturally noticed it as well.

Sean Hughes, Evan Keller, and the others hurried over to stand behind Zoe, quickly donning their gear. If anything seemed wrong, they would be ready to move in instantly.

Zoe stared at the pulsating door, took a deep breath, and pulled it open.

The white light faded, revealing a dense forest. In the middle of the woods was a small, clear patch of land.

A heavily pregnant woman was digging a hole, one scoop at a time.

Every so often, she would stop to rub her aching back, take a sip of water, and then resume digging.

She hummed a melody under her breath, but she would abruptly stop partway through, only to start again from the beginning.

The woods were silent, save for the rustling of leaves in the wind and the sounds of the woman digging.

Zoe frowned at the scene before her.

’So, what’s the situation this time?’

’A premonition, or is this happening live?’

"Can you guys see this?"
