Chapter 396: Chapter 396: The Crowes Must All Die!

Although Heath Hale was keeping a wary eye on both Clark Crowe and Mrs. Crowe, he couldn’t do anything about how close they were to each other.

Mrs. Crowe had a vague inkling of who Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale were, and she figured they wouldn’t just stand by and watch her get beaten. So, in order to provoke Wendy Dawson, she deliberately moved even closer.

She pointed out her wounds one by one, adding fuel to the fire, all to make Wendy Dawson even more fearful and repulsed by Clark Crowe.

Seeing the fear she had hoped for on Wendy’s face, Mrs. Crowe got carried away in her triumph. Forgetting that Clark Crowe was standing right beside her, she burst out laughing.

Instantly pushed over the edge, Clark Crowe threw all caution to the wind. He lunged forward, pinning Mrs. Crowe to the ground, and wrapped his hands tightly around her throat.

"I told you to shut up! Didn’t you hear me? If Wendy rejects me because of what you said, I’ll kill your entire family!" Clark Crowe’s expression was vicious as a string of threats tumbled from his lips.

Mrs. Crowe was being choked. A few gurgling sounds escaped her throat as her hands beat frantically against Clark Crowe’s arms.

"Let go!"

The very next second, Heath Hale rushed to their side, trying to pull them apart.

But Clark Crowe was intent on killing her. His eyes bloodshot, he stared down at Mrs. Crowe as his grip tightened.

The suffocating pressure on her neck intensified. ’I have to do something,’ Mrs. Crowe realized, ’or I’m going to be the one to die!’

Mrs. Crowe flailed a hand, desperately fumbling for the dagger she’d dropped moments before. Her fingers closed around it, and she gripped it tightly.

She raised it high, preparing to plunge it into Clark Crowe’s back.

Zoe Sawyer had been shielding Wendy Dawson, but the moment she saw what Mrs. Crowe was doing, she forgot everything else and rushed forward, lashing out with a kick.

Her kick sent the dagger flying from Mrs. Crowe’s hand.

Clark Crowe’s hands were still squeezing, but when he saw the dagger get kicked away, his strength suddenly gave out. Seizing the opportunity, Heath Hale grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back.

Then he wrenched Clark’s arms behind his back, pinning him facedown on the ground.

"Easy, easy! I’ve still got a wound on my stomach!" Clark Crowe gasped. All his previous fury had vanished. He kept pleading for Heath Hale to ease up, worried he would die if the pressure continued.

Heath Hale frisked Clark Crowe and, after confirming he wasn’t hiding any other weapons, pulled him to his feet. He then found a sturdy rope and tied him up off to the side.

Even though Mrs. Crowe was a woman, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale didn’t dare let their guard down, not after what she’d just done. They tied her up using the same method and moved her to the opposite side of the room.

Once everything was under control, the three of them split up the tasks.

Zoe Sawyer and Wendy Dawson went downstairs to call the police, while Heath Hale stayed behind to guard the two, in case they tried anything else.

Before they went downstairs, Heath Hale specifically instructed them to contact their embassy first, before calling the police. He told them to explain the situation and ask that someone be sent over.

After all, they were in a foreign country where their own countrymen had been involved in multiple deaths.

This had already escalated into a major, tragic case.

Besides, there was no telling how the local police would handle things. What if, for the sake of convenience, they decided to lump the three of them in with the murderers as accomplices just to close the case?

They were unfamiliar with how things worked here. Without a fellow countryman who knew the local ropes, they’d be completely on their own, with no one to turn to for help.

Therefore, contacting the embassy was essential.

Zoe Sawyer understood what Heath meant. She first notified the embassy and clearly explained the situation before calling the police.

Given that it was a wealthy neighborhood, and that six people—all of them foreigners—were dead, the local police department didn’t dare to delay. They arrived with incredible speed.

The police and the embassy staff arrived at almost the same time.

After getting a clear picture of the situation, the embassy staff stayed with Zoe, Heath, and Wendy the entire time, helping them navigate a significant number of verbal traps during questioning.

Clark Crowe, however, wasn’t so lucky.

Mrs. Crowe’s intention had been to kill the entire Crowe Family all along. Under police questioning, she laid everything bare.

She detailed how many people Clark Crowe had killed, and how many she had killed herself.

When the police mentioned Wendy Dawson’s name, Mrs. Crowe fell silent for a moment. Ultimately, however, she answered truthfully, stating that Wendy had nothing to do with any of it.

The crime scene analysis perfectly matched Mrs. Crowe’s account; the local police found no trace of Wendy Dawson’s involvement.

With the embassy staff observing the entire process, the local police department expedited the fingerprint analysis, completely clearing Zoe, Heath, and Wendy of any suspicion.

Finally, through interrogating the manor’s servants, they pieced together the full story of what had happened.

As she was being led past Clark Crowe, Mrs. Crowe stopped and said to the police officer beside her, "Can I go over and say a few words to him?"

Perhaps they were moved by her pleading expression, or perhaps it was because they knew she had no weapons on her that could be used to harm herself or Clark Crowe.

The two officers hesitated, but finally nodded. They told her she had only one minute and that they would be watching her closely from nearby.

’One minute. That’s enough!’

Mrs. Crowe gave a meek nod of agreement, then walked toward Clark Crowe, who watched her with a wary gaze.

"I’ve come for your worthless life. I told you—everyone in the Crowe Family has to die!" Maintaining a gentle smile, Mrs. Crowe hugged Clark Crowe and spoke the words with incredible speed.

The color drained from Clark Crowe’s face, but before he could react, Mrs. Crowe shoved her hand deep into the knife wound in his abdomen.

They were standing right by the landing’s railing. Seizing the opening, Mrs. Crowe dragged Clark Crowe with her as she jumped.

The intense pain from his stomach had left Clark Crowe stunned. Before he could even think to fight back, she had already pulled him sideways and over the edge.

The nearby police officers’ expressions changed drastically. They rushed forward, trying to grab them, but they were a step too late.

Looking down at the two figures lying on the first floor, their conditions unknown, one of the four police officers slammed his hand on the railing in frustration.

’Damn it! They committed suicide right under our noses! We’re going to be the laughingstock of the precinct when we get back!’

A loud CRASH drew Zoe Sawyer and the others, who were on the second floor, out of the room.

When she saw what had happened, Zoe Sawyer’s first instinct was to cover Wendy Dawson’s eyes, trying to shield her from the sight.

Wendy knew she couldn’t handle much more, so she accepted Zoe’s kindness.

Still, she was curious about what had happened. "What was that?" she asked. "I heard a really loud crash."

Zoe hesitated for a moment, then carefully chose her words and explained what had happened to Wendy.

"It looks like Mrs. Crowe pulled Clark Crowe with her when she jumped from the third floor."
