My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 394: How Did You Get Out?
Chapter 394: Chapter 394: How Did You Get Out?
Although this was the second floor, the ceilings were high. Anyone jumping down unprepared would easily get hurt.
Instead of rescuing anyone, you’d just get yourself hurt in the process.
Unsure of the situation outside, the three of them carefully avoided the bug planted in the room as they searched for cloth to tie together.
Fortunately, the room was large, and there was plenty of cloth strong enough to support Heath Hale’s weight.
Soon, the three of them had fashioned a rope that reached all the way to the first floor.
"Be careful!" Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but warn as she watched Heath Hale climb down the rope.
’If worse comes to worst, Heath can trip Wendy later to create a diversion, and I’ll find a chance to open the door and get out.
If Wendy gets confused and asks about it, I’ll just say it’s a special police skill!’
Heath Hale knew what Zoe Sawyer was thinking and shook his head at her.
’We’re in an unfamiliar place. We can’t take any risks at all!’
Besides, from this height and with a rope for support, Heath was confident he could land safely without injury.
Standing on the small balcony, Zoe Sawyer stared at Heath Hale below. Only when she saw him land steadily on the grass did she finally let out a sigh of relief.
Heath Hale gave Zoe a hand signal to show he was okay, then drew his weapon and moved cautiously toward the living room.
After confirming the first floor was empty, Heath quickened his pace and ran toward their room on the second floor.
Heath had thought it would take some time to pick the lock, but when he got to the door, he found the key was already in it.
’The person who locked the door was probably afraid of losing the key. And since this was their turf, they’d gotten careless.’
But this made things much easier for Heath.
He quickly opened the door, letting Zoe and Wendy out.
The second floor was quiet, with just the three of them, but a loud commotion was coming from the third floor.
"Let’s go up and see what’s happening." Heath gripped his gun, shielding Zoe Sawyer and Wendy Dawson behind him.
The moment the three of them reached the second-floor landing, they were hit by the strong stench of blood.
"This much blood... something’s definitely happened." Heath’s expression was grim as he gave Zoe a hand signal.
Zoe also drew the weapon she carried and shielded Wendy Dawson behind her.
As they neared the door to Second Uncle Crowe’s room, Heath stopped dead, his eyes fixed on Evan Crowe lying facedown on the floor. A pool of blood was spreading from under him, even reaching into the hallway.
’With this much blood, no wonder we could smell it from the second-floor landing.’
Heath had a sinking feeling. Their son was in this state, so why was there no sound from Second Uncle Crowe and his wife?
’Don’t they care about their own son?
Impossible. Something else must have happened.
Or maybe... Second Uncle Crowe and his wife are gone, too.’
Zoe peeked over and saw the scene at the doorway. She instinctively turned and covered Wendy Dawson’s eyes, not wanting her to see it.
"Heath, go see what’s going on. Be careful, don’t get hurt." Zoe only spoke after she was sure Wendy’s eyes were covered.
Heath nodded to show he understood and told Zoe and Wendy to stay put until he gave them the signal to move.
With her eyes covered, Wendy Dawson’s hearing and sense of smell became sharper.
The sound of Heath’s footsteps and the lingering stench of blood made her heart pound with terror, making her want to flee the area immediately.
But Wendy remained motionless, letting Zoe cover her eyes.
Heath walked to the doorway and immediately saw the lifeless bodies of Second Uncle Crowe and his wife lying in a pool of blood.
Worried about disturbing the scene, Heath stayed at the doorway. After a quick look, he shook his head at Zoe, then pointed at Wendy beside her, and then to a room on the other side of the hall.
As Heath got closer, he could faintly hear the sounds of a struggle coming from that other room. It sounded like the killer fighting a survivor.
’The Crowes might be criminals, but we don’t have concrete evidence right now.
Besides, a surviving member of the family is apparently under attack. As a police officer, it’s my duty to check it out.’
Understanding his meaning, Zoe pursed her lips but finally nodded in agreement.
With her consent, Heath rushed over as fast as he could.
Meanwhile, Zoe asked in a low voice, "Wendy, whose room is that, across from Second Uncle Crowe’s?"
Hearing this question, Wendy Dawson knew the situation with Second Uncle Crowe’s family was not good.
Although she was terrified, the thought of Zoe and Heath by her side gave her the courage to swallow hard, overcome her fear, and say, "The room near this end of the hall is Second Uncle and his wife’s. Evan’s is next to theirs.
The ones across the hall are mine and Clark’s."
Clark Crowe had explained the layout to her in detail when she first arrived, so Wendy was able to answer Zoe’s question quickly.
"Come on, let’s go take a look." Zoe carefully kept Wendy’s eyes covered as she led her away from the area.
As they passed through an area where the smell of blood was especially thick, Wendy thought for a moment before asking, "You’re covering my eyes... Did something happen to Second Uncle’s family?"
’I’m not an idiot. The smell of blood is so strong, and I haven’t heard a sound from Second Uncle Crowe’s family. There’s only one possibility—something happened to them!
Zoe wouldn’t be covering my eyes if the scene wasn’t so horrific.’
"Don’t overthink it. We’ll protect you." Zoe didn’t answer directly, simply repeating her promise.
But from that sentence, Wendy knew the answer.
Meanwhile, when Heath reached the door to Clark Crowe’s room, he was stunned by the scene inside.
Clark Crowe and Mrs. Crowe were covered in knife wounds of all sizes. Their expressions were vicious, and blood was pouring from their injuries, soaking the carpet.
Clark clutched his stomach with one hand while the other gripped a fruit knife, his gaze fixed malevolently on Mrs. Crowe in front of him.
Mrs. Crowe was leaning against the wall, her body slightly hunched and her expression tense. She, too, was tightly gripping a knife.
The two of them were locked in a standoff, each ready to react at the slightest movement from the other.
When Heath ran to the doorway, neither of them seemed to expect anyone else to show up, and they instinctively turned to look.
Upon seeing it was Heath, Clark looked utterly astonished. "How can it be you?! How did you get out? I chained that door shut!
Wait, if you’re out, where’s Wendy?"
The thought that Wendy might see this scene made Clark extremely agitated.
But Mrs. Crowe, standing opposite him, her eyes lit up.
"So, you hid Wendy Dawson on the second floor. Tell me, what do you think would happen if I butchered her right here in front of you?"
