My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 375: Supplementing Equipment and Poaching a Corner
Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Supplementing Equipment and Poaching a Corner
Once she confirmed the wounded had been taken to the infirmary by Evan Keller and the others, Zoe Sawyer turned to Barry Quinn, her voice laced with concern.
She couldn’t ask about the mission, so she could only ask if there was anything she could do to help.
Barry Quinn glanced at his team members around him, thought for a moment, and said, "Hand me the medical kit from that shelf. After you give it to me, close the door. It’s dangerous here."
This was a temporary safe point they had chosen. Once their wounds were treated, it would be about time to move.
The words had barely left his mouth when Sean Hughes and Heath Hale, who had been standing guard by Zoe Sawyer, each grabbed a medical kit and handed them over.
The team member, somewhat stunned by the whole exchange, mechanically took the medical kits. He then watched as the door in front of them closed and gradually vanished into thin air.
"Captain, that..." One of the team members looked astonished, subconsciously turning his head toward Barry Quinn.
"Don’t ask. It’s not your concern." Barry shot them a look, and the team members, who had been curious, quickly reined in their questions.
’Oh well. Having such an incredibly capable ally isn’t a bad thing.’
Barry Quinn took the medical kit from his subordinate and called for them to come treat their wounds in groups.
The situation here was unclear. For their safety, they had to move out as soon as possible.
However, for the safety of the men under his command, treating their injuries was absolutely necessary.
Barry Quinn leaned against the wall, his gaze sweeping over the spot where the door had disappeared. The tension in his body eased slightly.
He knew it wasn’t good to rely on Zoe Sawyer for everything, but having a safe escape route during a dangerous mission like this certainly gave him a sense of confidence.
The confidence that he could get his team out in one piece.
Seeing that his men had already used up more than half of their ammunition, Barry Quinn waved over Monkey, who was standing guard nearby.
"What’s the situation outside? If we want to break out, do we have enough ammo?" Barry asked in a low voice.
Monkey glanced at their remaining ammunition and reported his observations and thoughts.
Because they weren’t operating on home turf, they’d been holding back on their ammo usage.
That was understandable before, but now, couldn’t they ask Zoe Sawyer for some fire support?
Having worked together for years, Barry Quinn didn’t need Monkey to spell it out; he understood the unspoken implication.
"Let’s try. Finishing the mission and getting back sooner is better than having the guys risk their lives out here." Noticing the hesitation on Barry’s face, Monkey urged him quietly.
’It’d be a waste not to use the ace up our sleeve.’
Besides, it wasn’t like they asked Zoe Sawyer for help with everything. Asking for help now, if handled properly, could save a lot of time later and would maximize everyone else’s safety.
’What’s not to like?’
’And anyway, we should at least ask if Zoe is willing before making a decision!’
Monkey understood Barry Quinn’s concerns, but in his opinion, they were unnecessary.
They didn’t rely on Zoe Sawyer for everything, nor would they let their own skills atrophy just because they had an ace in the hole.
Used reasonably, they could complete the mission quickly and perfectly. Zoe would also get a chance to practice her ability and enrich her service record, giving her more leverage for future promotions and raises. It was a complete win-win!
"At least think about the guys." Monkey gestured around them, a hint of helplessness in his voice.
Barry Quinn followed Monkey’s gaze. Since this was just a temporary rest stop, the others were taking turns resting, seizing the chance to recover their strength.
Every man had at least a few wounds. Their faces were tense, and their hands gripped their weapons tightly. At the slightest sound, their eyes would fly open to scan their surroundings. Only when the "all clear" was given would they wearily close their eyes again.
"...You’re right. I’ll handle it. You should get some rest, too." Barry Quinn swallowed the words he had been about to say, pulled out his communicator, and walked to another corner.
A few minutes later, he walked back, his expression relaxed.
"So? I told you Zoe Sawyer wouldn’t refuse!" Seeing the relaxed look on Barry’s face, Monkey immediately guessed the outcome.
Barry Quinn shrugged, a bit resigned. "I was being too stubborn. The brass said they’ll have what we need ready within an hour. It’ll be delivered through Zoe.
Let the men rest a little longer. Then we’ll receive the weapons and launch a counter-attack."
Meanwhile, not long after Zoe Sawyer put down her communicator, she received a call from the director.
The director gave her an address and told her to go there through a door, and that she could bring one person with her.
After a moment’s thought, Zoe decided to take Heath Hale.
After passing through the door, she found herself face-to-face with Barry Quinn’s former superior, whom she had just met a few days ago.
When the superior saw Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale, he nodded at them. Then he pointed to the closed warehouse doors behind him, indicating that the supplies were inside.
After confirming everything was in order, the superior contacted Barry Quinn on his communicator, telling him that they were ready on their end. The supplies were available for pickup whenever Barry’s team was ready.
Having just finished another firefight, Barry Quinn looked at his team’s dwindling supply of ammo. After confirming their current surroundings were relatively safe, he reported his position to the other side.
The next second, a door appeared in front of them.
Having seen it once before, the other team members didn’t look surprised this time. They were just a little curious as to why it had been opened again.
"Barry! Quick, quick, come over and pick out the gear you need." Zoe Sawyer stood to one side, clearing a path and waving for Barry Quinn and his men to hurry.
Staring at the familiar weapons inside the warehouse, the team members on either side of Barry Quinn couldn’t help but gasp. A spark of secret delight ignited within them.
’This is great!’
’We can restock our spent ammo!’
Although everyone was itching to go, they remained rooted to the spot, looking expectantly at Barry Quinn and awaiting his next command.
"Thanks for your hard work, Zoe. Everyone, go restock. Grab as much as you can. We’re going to teach the other side a lesson." A smile tugged at the corner of Barry Quinn’s mouth.
Given permission, the men let out a cheer and rushed into the warehouse, quickly selecting useful weapons and equipment.
In less than ten minutes, every man was laden with weapons. As they left, they still managed to free a hand to pat Zoe Sawyer on the shoulder, giving her a wide grin. "Thanks! Thank you!"
Barry Quinn and Monkey followed at the end. Without much small talk, they simply copied their men and patted Zoe Sawyer on the shoulder.
Time was short. After resupplying, Barry Quinn and his team hurriedly prepared to head to their next location.
"You’ve all worked hard. If you’re not in a rush, why not stay here with me for a bit before you go?"
