My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 369: Power Leak in the Community
Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Power Leak in the Community
Zoe Sawyer and the others listened to the whole story, their expressions grim. Mr. Wallace’s actions were even more vicious than they had imagined.
"That’s everything I know. If I didn’t have my child to look after, I would have found a chance to kill him and avenge my daughter." A glint of hatred shone in Jane Carter’s eyes.
’She had even imagined all sorts of ways to torture him.’
But the reality was, she didn’t have the means. All she could do was watch Mr. Wallace live freely and happily as his career thrived.
Mr. Wallace wasn’t just careful about his real-world reputation; he paid close attention to his online presence too. Jane Carter could only leave comments under various inquiry posts and explain the situation to anyone who sent her a private message.
’If I can save just one person, it’s worth it.’
After Sean Hughes had recorded everything Jane Carter said, he looked at the last question in his notebook and asked.
"Has anything else happened around the neighborhood recently? Anything at all!"
It was still unclear what Mr. Wallace had done that Aaron Nash witnessed. Their only option was to start with residents in the nearby complexes and ask if anything strange had occurred.
If they couldn’t come up with anything, they would have to search each residential complex one by one.
"Strange things?" Jane Carter frowned, puzzled.
Her mind raced, trying to recall if anything odd had happened nearby recently.
’I haven’t heard about anyone having any trouble.’
After thinking for a long time, Jane Carter shook her head, indicating that nothing had happened.
Although they couldn’t get any new leads from her, Zoe Sawyer and the others weren’t discouraged. Getting so much information on Mr. Wallace was already a pleasant surprise.
The group confirmed Jane Carter’s statement with her one more time. After making sure nothing was missed, they packed up their things, said their goodbyes, and left.
"Check on Evan’s situation, then find the property management for the local complexes. They might have new leads." Heath Hale glanced at the time and quickly laid out a plan.
The group quickly dialed Evan Keller’s number.
"Evan, I’ve got something on my end. How are things over there?" Heath Hale asked, listening to the sounds on the other end of the line.
Evan Keller looked around, found a quieter spot, and once he was sure it wouldn’t affect the call quality, he said, "The situation is basically just as Zoe Sawyer guessed. The local officers and I inspected the building and found that all the ground wires for the entire building have been stolen.
The pets were acting strangely because various household items were conducting electricity, giving them shocks. The residents here just thought it was severe static electricity and didn’t consider any other possibility.
If someone’s power bank had exploded at a time like this, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
Thankfully, because of Zoe Sawyer, they were able to discover it in time.
Otherwise, if an explosion had occurred, it would have been too late for regrets.
"What’s the plan now?" Heath Hale asked.
"According to the residents’ recollections, they started getting this tingling sensation several months ago. The surveillance footage here only goes back two months at most; anything older gets overwritten.
Catching the culprit on camera is impossible. For now, we have to evacuate the entire building. The government will cover the costs of fixing the wiring, and residents can only move back in after we’ve confirmed there are no remaining safety hazards," Evan Keller said, explaining the arrangements on his end.
"We’ll try to catch the thief, of course, but the timeline is too long. It’ll be difficult to find them."
As for the explosion Zoe Sawyer saw through the door, this evacuation would naturally prevent it.
The officers here had also given their assurance that after the wiring was fixed, they would conduct a thorough inspection of the entire building for any other safety hazards.
After explaining the situation on his end, Evan Keller asked, "That’s about it for my side. What’s the situation over there?"
Heath Hale then recounted what they had learned.
"Questioning people one by one really is too time-consuming. It’ll be faster to just summon the property managers," Evan Keller said, his gaze sweeping over the police officers in the distance. His tone was brisk. "I’ll go discuss it with them now. You guys should come over too. We can act together, and maybe we’ll even get a chance to catch the suspect."
"Alright! But be careful. Don’t tip him off," Heath Hale warned.
’First, we find Aaron Nash’s body. Then, we use that as the center and expand the search outward.’
’Once we find whatever Mr. Wallace is hiding, we’ll know exactly what he did that Aaron Nash caught him for.’
Evan Keller quickly ran through the next steps in his mind, then hung up the phone and walked straight over to the officers nearby to explain his request.
Captain Young of the municipal bureau looked both puzzled and grim.
Although his chief had ordered him to follow this group’s arrangements completely, he was extremely curious how they knew there had been a murder in a nearby complex, and that the scene was in the electrical meter room.
"Alright, I’ll arrange it now." Despite his confusion, Captain Young ordered one of his team members to summon the people they needed.
In less than half an hour, the property managers from all the surrounding residential complexes had gathered.
"Officers? Is there a reason you’ve called us all here at this hour?" one of the pot-bellied men asked, glancing at his watch with a puzzled tone.
The others nearby also looked confused. Those who knew each other huddled closer, whispering among themselves.
Captain Young raised a hand, silencing their murmurs. He then said, "Police business. We need your cooperation.
You’re all property managers, so you should have homeowner group chats on your phones. Please send out a message and ask if anyone in any building has felt a tingling sensation when touching appliances or other household items."
To make sure he was clear, Captain Young described several specific symptoms and pointed to the residential building behind him. "All the ground wires in this building were stolen. The residents have been living in an extremely dangerous environment. To eliminate any other safety hazards, we need to check the surrounding complexes."
This was no small matter. The summoned managers quickly took out their phones, composed a message, and sent it out.
’If something really happens, my personal savings won’t be nearly enough to cover the damages!’
Shortly after the messages were sent, responses started pouring into the homeowner group chats.
Some asked what was going on, while others carefully checked for the sensation and answered the question.
In less than ten minutes, the property managers had compiled the answers.
Most of the complexes had no issues, but in the Norvane complex not far away, residents in one building reported that showering recently felt like getting electrotherapy.
A tingling, numbing feeling.
And it wasn’t just one person; the vast majority of residents had experienced this slight tingling sensation.
However, the sensation wasn’t very strong, and it had only just started, so most residents hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
A few had sensed something was wrong, but they’d decided to wait and see, to verify their suspicions.
