Chapter 358: Chapter 358: Walter Newton

"Officer, is there something urgent you called us here for?

My schedule is a bit tight right now. I was just contacting a client to see if we could get an extension on a delivery deadline. If there’s nothing important, could we..." The factory manager subconsciously tried to play the victim, but when he saw the stern-faced officer before him and the incredibly tense atmosphere, he instinctively lowered his voice.

He couldn’t help but wonder, ’It’s only been a little while. He wasn’t like this this morning.’

’Don’t tell me they actually found something?’

Although he was deeply suspicious, the factory manager kept his expression in check, not revealing too much.

The workshop director next to him was not nearly as calm. His hands and feet were trembling slightly. He had just started to speak when the factory manager shot him a glare that silenced him.

"No rush. We’ll just wait a little longer for one more person to arrive." The older officer handed some of the files he was holding to Lynn behind him, then crossed his arms, his tone tinged with a hint of cheerfulness.

’This case is finally starting to make some sense.’

’No wonder the Chief sounded so certain when he heard my request, saying the specialist they brought in would absolutely crack this case.’

’How much time has even passed? With just the few materials I sent over, they actually managed to reconstruct the entire crime.’

’Next, once everyone is here, it’s time to verify the accuracy of this sketch.’

’Waiting for someone else?’

The factory manager furrowed his brow in surprise. ’Who else hasn’t arrived?’

Soon, the figure of Arthur Sullivan appeared before them.

"Arthur? Why aren’t you in the office working at this hour? You’re skipping work to come here?

Get back to work! Or I’ll dock your pay!" The factory manager subconsciously berated Arthur Sullivan upon seeing him, wanting him to leave immediately.

His hand unconsciously reached for the phone in his pocket.

’What the hell is my lookout getting paid for?!’

’The guy left, and they didn’t even report it to me!’

’A pay cut! I’m definitely docking their pay!’

Seeing a factory employee, the workshop director’s trembling limbs instantly steadied. He began rolling up his sleeves as he walked toward Arthur Sullivan. "Deserting your post during work hours... Don’t think that just because you’re a long-time employee the factory won’t dare to fire you."

However, before he could take more than a few steps, his path was blocked.

Mills extended an arm, blocking his path toward Arthur Sullivan. His tone was cold and hard. "Please don’t go over there."

"Arthur, come over here and take a look. See if you recognize this person," the older officer said, waving Arthur Sullivan over.

Once he walked over, the officer handed the sketch to Arthur Sullivan.

The moment he saw the face in the sketch, Arthur Sullivan answered almost without hesitation, "I know him. That’s Walter Newton, a notorious slacker and freeloader at our factory. He uses some past contribution he made to the factory as an excuse. To say he shows up for work one day and disappears for the next two would be a compliment.

But for the past few days, he’s actually been clocking in on time."

Arthur Sullivan had a very deep impression of this man.

When he first took over this job, he got screwed over by his predecessor because he didn’t "pay his respects" in time.

And because he didn’t understand the unwritten rules, he followed factory regulations and docked Walter Newton’s perfect attendance bonus.

After that, the man came to the office every single day, pestering him relentlessly to give the money back.

Eventually, the situation got so out of hand that it drew the factory manager’s displeasure. He called Arthur in for a reprimand, saying that Walter Newton was a veteran contributor to the factory and that his pay couldn’t be docked.

However, since the factory’s payroll had already been processed, it wasn’t easy to add the bonus back. So, the manager told Arthur Sullivan to just bear the grievance and pay Walter Newton the missing amount out of his own pocket.

It was because of this incident that Arthur Sullivan had Walter Newton’s face burned into his memory.

He also started paying extra attention to him and learned what a slacker he was.

"Then why didn’t you say so two days ago?" the older officer asked Arthur Sullivan, frowning.

"Because I wasn’t sure. Sometimes Walter Newton clocks in consecutively for a period, but he usually just finds a place to slack off right after and only reappears for meals.

I’ve been looking for him during lunch the past two days but haven’t seen him. I was thinking that if I still didn’t see him today, I would tell you.

Besides, there’s been someone watching me this whole time, hovering over everything I do. I never had a chance in the office," Arthur Sullivan said, a hint of helplessness in his voice.

Ever since he found out a colleague had taken money from the factory manager to spy on him, he had been extremely cautious about everything he did, terrified of revealing the slightest flaw and being discovered.

Otherwise, he would have found someone to ask about Walter Newton’s situation the moment he sensed something was wrong.

The factory manager, who had been listening on the side, cursed inwardly. ’This is bad.’

’Arthur Sullivan has teamed up with the police! And they’ve tracked it back to Walter Newton!’

’If this keeps up, everything I’ve done will definitely be exposed!’

But before he could think of a solution, the workshop director beside him couldn’t help but blurt out, "What Walter Newton? Officer, what exactly did you call us here for today?"

’Idiot!’

The factory manager cursed inwardly. But since this was his accomplice, he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. He quickly tried to smooth things over. "I’m sorry, Officer.

The delivery deadline is getting closer and closer, but our progress is stalled. He’s just a little anxious, so he spoke without thinking. Please don’t mind him."

After speaking, he didn’t forget to take a few steps forward and pull the workshop director back to his side.

At the same time, he shot him a fierce glare, telling him to shut up!

The older officer ignored the silent, glaring exchange between the two.

’Now, to verify if all this information I have is real, I just need to go to one place!’

"I won’t keep you in suspense.

The main reason I called the three of you here today is that we’ve found the hiding place of the victim’s head. We’re going to verify it now.

Arthur, you lead the way. To the quick-freeze cold storage unit in your factory." As the older officer spoke, his eyes moved between Arthur Sullivan, the factory manager, and the workshop director.

Upon hearing that the location had been found, a look of pleasant surprise appeared on Arthur Sullivan’s face, while the factory manager and workshop director both shuddered, their faces filled with uncontrollable shock.

"You have a lead? It’s in the quick-freeze cold storage? I’ll take you there right now!" Arthur Sullivan practically spun around and started walking.

The factory manager and workshop director were also flanked by the two officers beside them and escorted from behind.

As they got closer and closer to the cold storage, the factory manager gritted his teeth and asked, unable to accept the situation, "Officer, searching for the body is one thing, but how did Walter Newton suddenly get involved?

Don’t tell me... he’s the murderer?

No wonder I haven’t seen him these past few days. He must have fled to escape justice!"

The older officer stopped walking and looked at the panicked and bewildered factory manager with a smirk.

"Do you really not know why we’re looking for Walter Newton?"
