My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 279: Reversal, Reversal, and Another Reversal
Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Reversal, Reversal, and Another Reversal
The man beamed, bowing and scraping as he promised he would get his hands on it.
This was a matter of life and death; he couldn’t afford to be the least bit careless.
He would get it this time, even if it cost him his life!
Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer clenched her fists. It was that feeling again—a new case was coming.
She just didn’t know what kind of case it would be this time.
Then, as everyone watched, Zoe Sawyer stood up and strode toward a door on the other side of the office.
Sean Hughes and Heath Hale sighed, rising to follow her.
She gripped the doorknob, closed her eyes, and centered herself. Soon, the familiar sensation washed over her.
Zoe Sawyer took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Before her was a glass greenhouse. Looking up, she could see the sky had already grown dim.
On one side of the greenhouse was a digital clock. Zoe Sawyer could clearly see the time it displayed: sometime tomorrow.
A man in casual clothes sat cross-legged on the floor, arranging some freshly cut flowers.
"Mr. Lynch, what a refined hobby you have. I was wondering if you’ve considered the matter we discussed on the phone," a man in a black tracksuit and a baseball cap said as he walked in.
Mr. Lynch didn’t look up. He continued with his task and said, "There’s nothing to consider. My patent is very important to me. I won’t agree to your terms. You can leave."
The man in the baseball cap clicked his tongue, refusing to give up. "The price is negotiable. Give us what we want, and we can give you anything you desire.
"Power, status, wealth... what Big Sis has to offer is beyond your wildest imagination."
As he spoke, he came to a stop in front of Mr. Lynch. The man in the cap felt something under his foot.
He looked down. It was one of the flowers Mr. Lynch had just trimmed.
The man in the cap bent down, picked up the blossom, and then crushed the delicate flower in his fist. His voice filled with menace. "Of course, if you’re unwilling to cooperate, Mr. Lynch, we have other methods. For instance, your daughter studying abroad, and your wife, who’s currently on vacation... It would be a shame if something dangerous were to happen to them."
Red juice from the flower dripped from his fingers onto the floor.
At this, Mr. Lynch finally looked up, staring at the man in the baseball cap before him.
"Are you threatening me?" Mr. Lynch’s tone was level, but his eyes blazed with suppressed fury.
The man in the cap sneered. He flicked the shredded petals from his hand, pulled a switchblade from his pocket, and began to handle it expertly. "If you don’t agree, then yes, it’s a threat."
"But if you kill me, you won’t get what you want.
"And even if I do hand it over, you won’t let me go. It’s a dead end for me either way," Mr. Lynch said mockingly, setting down the flower he was holding.
’These people aren’t the forgiving type. No matter what I choose, this won’t end well for me.’
"So you don’t care about your wife and daughter anymore?" The man’s expression stiffened. He tightened his grip on the switchblade, his face twisting into a snarl. "Believe me, I can make one phone call and have them killed instantly!"
Mr. Lynch stood up, leisurely brushing off his pants. He reached out and grasped the other man’s hand. "I was just joking. Just promise me that after I hand it over, Big Sis will spare my family."
Hearing this, a smirk spread across the man’s face. "As long as you..."
Before he could finish, an expression of disbelief washed over his face. He looked down. A sharp switchblade was buried in his stomach.
The man instinctively tried to swing the hand holding his own switchblade, but Mr. Lynch sidestepped the attack and slammed him to the ground.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mr. Lynch shoved the blade deeper and twisted it. "I really hate being threatened. So please, just die."
A searing pain shot through his abdomen. Massive blood loss was sapping his strength. In the end, he died with his eyes wide open, full of resentment.
’Had he been hiding it up his sleeve the whole time?’ Even as he died, he couldn’t understand where the switchblade had come from.
Once he was sure the man was dead, Mr. Lynch stood up. Ignoring the blood splattered on his clothes, he dragged the body over to Florinwell and tossed it in.
"Try threatening me in your next life." Mr. Lynch stood by Florinwell, his expression placid as he watched the body sink. He even remembered to grab a bag of white powder from nearby and empty its contents into Florinwell.
Only when the body was completely submerged did he reach up to wipe a smear of blood from his cheek. His tone turned petulant. "Now this outfit is ruined. How annoying."
After washing his hands at a nearby spigot, Mr. Lynch left the greenhouse, still muttering complaints.
As he departed, the vision ended.
Having witnessed the entire event, Zoe Sawyer wore a puzzled expression.
’What is this vision trying to tell me?’
’At first, I thought Mr. Lynch was going to be the victim. Then, after hearing the name ’Big Sis,’ I thought the door was warning me to go arrest someone. But then it flipped, and Mr. Lynch became the killer, while the one making threats ended up dead.’
The reversal had caught her completely off guard.
Seeing her expression, Heath Hale asked nervously, "Did something serious happen?"
The others also looked tense. No one dared to speak, they just stared at Zoe, waiting for an answer.
"No, don’t worry," Zoe Sawyer said, waving her hands dismissively before recounting everything she had just witnessed.
After hearing Zoe’s account, Heath Hale finally understood her baffled expression.
"It’s simple. I think the door is just telling you to have us go and prevent this from happening.
"Stop this Mr. Lynch from committing murder, then bring the man in the cap back here. We might be able to get more information out of him." Heath Hale crossed his arms, tapping a finger on his biceps in thought. "But... I feel like it’s not that simple.
"Based on your description, Zoe, Mr. Lynch was far too calm. It was as if he’d just killed a chicken, not a person."
His decisiveness during the act, and his method for disposing of the body afterward... it all gave him a strange sense of unease.
Before Zoe and the others could make sense of it, Officer Lee walked over with a peculiar look on his face.
"Zoe, is this the Mr. Lynch you were talking about?" Officer Lee swiveled his monitor around, revealing a photo of a man working in a machine shop.
"Yes! That’s him!" Zoe Sawyer took one look and nodded firmly.
"That can’t be right. Mr. Lynch is a gruff, no-nonsense kind of guy. He’d be the last person to have the patience for something like flower arranging."
