The day after Harrison Alcott’s mother arrived, she dragged Wendy Kendall out of bed before five in the morning. She piled her own clothes and her two sons’ clothes in the bathroom, demanding Wendy wash them by hand.

She wasn’t allowed to use the washing machine. It wasted electricity.

When Wendy Kendall tried to resist, Harrison Alcott’s mother slapped her across the face again.

Unable to get her phone, with no way to call the police or contact Caleb Rivers, Wendy Kendall could only endure it for the time being.

He forced her to work and refused to get her medical treatment.

With no other choice, Caleb Rivers could only stay and take over Wendy Kendall’s chores. He poured all his savings into her medical care and eventually even sold his old house just to barely keep her alive.

And that was why Caleb Rivers was trapped here, dependent on the meager salary from the small restaurant.

After all, he had no savings left. If he were to quit and look for a new job, he would have no income to buy the various nutritional supplements Wendy Kendall needed.

Harrison Alcott had realized this, which was why he exploited Caleb Rivers.

"I understand you wanting revenge for what the mother and her sons did, but why the child? Why did you harm her, too?" Heath Hale asked, his voice full of confusion as he thought of the little girl who had died in her mother’s arms.

A smile tugged at the corner of Caleb Rivers’s mouth. "They used Mr. Kendall’s money to open the small restaurant they have now. Then, Harrison Alcott found himself a mistress."

"Originally, he only cheated on her after they moved here, so I shouldn’t have directed my anger at them. But after that mother and daughter found out Harrison Alcott still had his original wife, they actually went to my sister behind my back to flaunt their position and taunt her."

"That kid... she looked cute and innocent, but every word out of her mouth was more venomous than the last. She’s the one who provoked my sister so badly she ended up in the hospital."

It was from that moment on that the mother and daughter were added to his kill list.
