My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 255: Captain Keller, the Person Is Gone
Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Captain Keller, the Person Is Gone
They considered that there were two of them, and the man they were helping was disabled.
The two girls discussed it and decided it wouldn’t be a big problem, so they agreed to the request.
Later, they noticed the couple wasn’t taking the main road. Instead, they deliberately took all sorts of small paths, their route growing more and more remote. The two girls sensed something was wrong. Just as they were about to make an excuse to get away, Sid and Old Taylor darted out from behind and blocked their path.
They couldn’t fight them and couldn’t outrun them. In the process of trying to escape, one of their phones fell to the ground.
They didn’t even dare to stop and pick it up.
After that, the two girls realized they couldn’t keep running like this. While dodging the two men’s pursuit, they started shouting at the top of their lungs, trying to attract the attention of any nearby residents.
But just then, another girl suddenly darted out from a corner, stuck her foot out, and tripped them. Sid and his partner caught up, pulled handkerchiefs from their pockets, and held them over the girls’ noses.
When they woke up again, they were in this house, their hands bound with iron chains.
And before that, two other women covered in injuries had also been taken away by those two men.
But they didn’t know where they were sent.
After getting the answers needed, Hayden Shaw spent a good while comforting them, repeatedly assuring them that they were safe now and had nothing to fear.
Soon, Evan Keller received a call from the male police officer from the local precinct, who reported that he and his men had arrived on the outskirts of Feldon.
However, he said there were too many small paths in the area, and he wanted to wait for Evan Keller’s team to arrive before moving in.
Otherwise, they might alert their targets. Letting even one suspect escape would tip off the buyers.
"It’s fine. You can head directly for the Vaughn family’s place. My team members have already captured the other two. I’ll head over to support you shortly," Evan Keller said, briefly explaining the situation to the officer on the other end of the line.
The male officer was somewhat stunned. It had been less than ten minutes since their last call.
And in just those ten minutes, the people from the provincial bureau had already snuck in and even captured the two main traffickers?
That level of efficiency was a little too terrifying!
’As expected of the provincial bureau, I guess,’ he thought. They had already started their operation before his own team had even arrived.
The male officer marveled silently, but he remembered to answer Evan Keller. "Understood, Captain Keller. I happen to know the way to the Vaughn family’s place. I’ll take my men over right now."
’We can’t just let the provincial bureau do all the work, can we?’
’We want to earn some credit too!’
The aunties who had been chatting under the big tree in the village saw a group of police officers hurrying off in a certain direction. They all stopped talking and stood up, curious.
"Hey, what’s going on? Did something happen at someone’s house?"
"I don’t think so... But with all that twisting and turning, it looks like they’re heading for the Vaughn family’s place, doesn’t it?"
"The Vaughns? What are that couple capable of? If it weren’t for their capable daughter and Sid’s occasional help, they probably would have starved to death by now." One of the aunties, holding a handful of melon seeds, offered her sharp commentary as she cracked them.
Thinking about how extravagantly the Vaughn couple usually spent money, the auntie who had just spoken fell silent.
"Tsk, I don’t know what they did to get so lucky—must be smoke rising from their ancestral graves—to have such a good daughter. Not only does she work tirelessly to take care of them without complaint, but she also gives them whatever they ask for," the melon-seed-cracking auntie couldn’t help but remark.
They’re clearly not good people, but because they have a good daughter, they’ve managed to start living the good life early.
At this point, another auntie seemed to remember something, and her tone turned puzzled. "But, you know... it seems Sid still hasn’t come out. Wasn’t he in a hurry?"
It usually only takes a few minutes. Why is it taking so long this time?
Not understanding what was going on, the aunties exchanged glances, then stood up in unison.
They wanted to go have a look.
But before they even reached Sid’s front door, they saw it open and a group of uniformed police officers file out.
"What’s going on? Why are there police?" The lead auntie had a puzzled expression on her face.
The two behind her also shook their heads frantically.
They had no idea! They didn’t know either!
Heath Hale walked quickly up to the three of them and asked, "Ma’ams, which way to the Vaughn family’s place?"
The lead auntie glanced at the surrounded Sherman house, then back at Heath Hale, and quickly made a decision. "The Vaughn place? I know it. I’ll take you there."
’Better to go over to the Vaughn’s and see what’s happening than to just stand around here.’
’Maybe I can figure out what’s going on,’ she thought. With that, the three aunties turned and headed in the direction of the Vaughn family’s house.
Heath Hale and his men followed close behind.
With two consecutive groups of people heading in the same direction, other residents of Feldon came out of their houses and followed behind Heath Hale and his men.
Meanwhile, Sean Hughes took the wet wipe Zoe Sawyer handed her and began wiping the faces of the girls who were still unconscious, one by one.
The cold sensation made many of the still-unconscious girls furrow their brows, and they gradually opened their eyes.
Feeling someone beside her, the girl next to Sean Hughes instinctively started to scream, but when she saw the uniform of the person next to her, she burst into tears.
"It’s okay, it’s okay. You’re safe now. The two traffickers have been caught. You’ll be able to go home soon," Sean Hughes quickly reassured them.
As more and more of the girls regained consciousness, the room was soon filled with the sound of sobbing, rising and falling.
Their sobs were filled with lingering fear, regret, and most of all, the relief of having survived their ordeal.
Sean Hughes and her team members went from one girl to the next, comforting them.
Finally, Sean Hughes turned her gaze toward a green-haired figure who was facing the wall, their back to her, radiating guilt.
"Cousin..." Zara Zane saw Sean Hughes walking toward her from the corner of her eye and gave her a fawning smile.
However, the expected scolding never came. Instead, Sean Hughes sighed and patted her head. "As long as you’re okay. Let your friends know you’re safe later. They’re very worried about you."
Zara Zane’s nose tingled. She looked up, searching for the girl who had been with her.
She then saw the other girl’s exceptionally guilty expression. When that girl noticed Zara Zane looking, she shuffled to the side, hunched over, and curled into a ball, as if trying to completely avoid her gaze.
Zara Zane didn’t say anything. She just silently withdrew her gaze and let out an imperceptible sigh.
However, the interaction between the two was noticed by Sean Hughes, who had been keeping a close eye on Zara Zane.
’There’s definitely more to this story,’ she knew.
’But this isn’t the right place to ask questions. Whatever it is, it can wait until we’re back at the station.’
Meanwhile, at the Vaughn family’s residence, the scene was not nearly as calm.
When Heath Hale and his people arrived, the officers from the local precinct were already searching the area around the house.
"Captain Keller, they’re gone!"
