Chapter 201: Chapter 201: You Threw the Stuff in the River?

Before Zoe Sawyer could even figure out this evolved ability, she saw Evan Keller running up from below with several of his team members.

"Zoe Sawyer, help us!" Evan Keller stopped in front of her, his voice edged with urgency.

Zoe Sawyer didn’t need Evan Keller to explain; she already knew what he wanted.

Visualizing the killer’s face once more, Zoe Sawyer opened the door again.

On the other side of the door was a bustling market, teeming with people. Luckily, Zoe’s door had opened in a quiet corner, so the crowds milling about didn’t notice anything out of place.

Using the sketch provided by Beau, Evan Keller quickly spotted the killer standing in another corner.

"There are too many people here. We have to move fast, understand? We need to apprehend him as quickly as possible.

We also need to be careful—he might have a weapon and could harm innocent bystanders," Evan Keller added in a low voice after mapping out their approach.

At the same time, Evan Keller had his team take off their police jackets. ’The uniforms are too conspicuous in the market!’

This killer was extremely cautious; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to kill so many people and still be on the run.

Fortunately, the weather was cold, so they were wearing another layer underneath and could manage for a bit.

Soon, Evan Keller had assigned everyone their positions.

Everyone stepped through the door, fanned out, and began to encircle the killer.

They closed in, pretending to browse the surrounding stalls, their movements the very picture of discretion.

The killer frowned. ’Why do I suddenly feel a chill? It’s like someone’s watching me.’

But a glance around revealed nothing out of the ordinary.

’The people milling about are just normal residents shopping for groceries. Right. Even if those cops caught Wesley Hayes, it won’t be that easy for them to find me!’

The killer chuckled smugly. By the time the investigation led back to him, he would be long gone from this town. Besides, Wesley Hayes had already disposed of the murder weapon.

’Even if they do catch me, they can’t convict me without evidence to build a case!’

At this thought, the killer’s expression relaxed, and he began to browse with newfound leisure.

He started looking for something suitable to buy as his next weapon.

After a few more steps, the killer stopped, puzzled. ’Why does it feel like more and more people are closing in on me?’

’Wait a minute... that guy’s face looks just like the cop from in front of the Ford Family’s house!’

’They’re here to arrest me!’

The killer reacted instantly, spinning around to flee and shoving people out of his way.

"Get him!"

At Evan Keller’s command, the officers who had surrounded the killer pounced. Before the horrified eyes of the crowd, they slammed the man to the ground and restrained him.

"Police business, stay back," Evan Keller said, flashing his badge as a few eager onlookers started to approach.

A few heavily tattooed men who had been about to step in saw Evan Keller’s badge and spoke up awkwardly, "Oh, cops. Never mind, never mind. We thought you were a bunch of gangsters out for revenge."

They hauled the killer to his feet, quickly patted him down, and confiscated the switchblade and folding knife he had hidden in his clothes.

After confirming he wasn’t carrying anything else, Evan Keller and his team escorted the killer back to the Ford Family’s home.

"Captain Keller? When did you all leave?" the chief asked, his expression surprised as he watched Evan Keller march the suspect in.

’When did they even leave?’

’Whatever, no need to get hung up on it.’

"You got the killer?" The chief’s voice was laced with anticipation.

Evan Keller nodded. "We got him. All that’s left is the murder weapon."

"What makes you think I’m the killer?! What evidence do you have? Let me go, or I swear I’ll sue you!" Hearing their conversation, the killer began to struggle violently, shouting nonstop.

The murder weapon had been disposed of. He had worn gloves when he climbed in and had even put plastic bags over his shoes.

There was no way he’d left any fingerprints. He’d also been careful to check for cameras on his way out.

’My mask might not have been on properly in her room, but besides the woman herself, there was no one else there. No one saw me.’

No witnesses, no physical evidence, no fingerprints.

’There’s no way they have enough evidence to convict me!’

At this thought, the killer calmed down again, looking at Evan Keller and the others with renewed composure.

The chief’s expression turned grim upon hearing this, but his gaze toward Captain Keller was still filled with hope.

’He didn’t know how they’d identified the killer, but the fact that they’d arrested him meant they must have evidence, right?!’

Evan Keller did not disappoint him. Zoe Sawyer had already seen where the murder weapon was.

All they had to do was go fish it out.

"We know where the evidence is, don’t worry." Evan Keller gave the chief a reassuring look, then called a professional recovery diver he had worked with before.

After explaining the situation, he gave the diver their current location and told him to bring his gear to retrieve an item.

Since it was a murder weapon, and Wesley Hayes had likely not been professional in how he’d packaged it, a careless retrieval could damage the evidence inside.

It was better to leave it to a professional.

Hearing Evan Keller’s words, the killer whipped his head toward Wesley Hayes, who was cowering in the corner. "You threw it in the river?"

Hearing someone speak to him, Wesley Hayes looked up, bewildered. His eyes brightened when he saw it was the good friend he’d just made last night.

But seeing the vicious look on his friend’s face, he shrank back. "Yeah... The weather’s freezing, and no one ever goes to the riverbank. I even tied rocks to it, so there’s no way it would float back up."

The killer was so angry he wanted to hit someone. When he said to "dispose" of it, he meant washing, burning, and shredding the clothes, and cleaning the paring knife with detergent before burying it.

He never imagined that idiot Wesley Hayes would just toss everything into the river!

Hearing their exchange and connecting it to Captain Keller’s earlier phone call, the chief’s eyes suddenly lit up.

’So they already know where the evidence was tossed!’

Soon, the recovery diver Evan Keller had called arrived, and the large group made their way to Wesley Hayes’s house.

Then, based on what she had seen through the door, Zoe Sawyer pointed out a general area.

The diver quickly suited up and submerged to search for the item.

The riverbed was littered with trash, but a woven bag was still fairly conspicuous. After a short search, the diver quickly located his target.

The chief and the killer both stared nervously at the surface of the water.

One hoping it would be found, the other hoping it wouldn’t.

But finding something that had been so recently discarded was still quite easy.

Soon, the diver’s head broke the surface. He waved to the people on the shore and gave an OK sign, indicating he’d found it.

"Yes! That’s great!"
