My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 170: The Murderer’s Appearance
Chapter 170: Chapter 170: The Murderer’s Appearance
At that moment, the figure of the first victim, Miss Miller, had already appeared on the other side of the door. Zoe Sawyer could only force herself to stay calm and visually record every detail of the scene.
’There’s still time!’
After taking a deep breath to calm herself, Zoe Sawyer began to observe the build of the man holding Miss Miller.
Her first thought was simple: ’This man is so tall.’
He wore a common black jacket. On his head was a baseball cap, and he’d also pulled up the jacket’s hood. A pair of black-rimmed glasses and a face mask hid his entire face.
A quick glance revealed nothing of his features.
The sky had already grown dark, and there were few people on the street. Miss Miller leaned groggily in the man’s arms, her eyes shut tight.
Soon, they stopped at the crime scene. As Zoe Sawyer watched the man begin to strip Miss Miller’s clothes and reach for her neck, she couldn’t help but stretch out her own hand, wanting to stop him.
Ignoring the barrier of the door, Zoe Sawyer reached with all her might toward Miss Miller, finally grabbing the man’s mask and glasses and yanking them off.
A Caucasian face was revealed, along with a pair of blue eyes.
The man’s hands stopped. He touched his face, a little confused. ’Were my movements that rough? How did my glasses and mask both fall off?’
’It worked!’
A flash of joy lit up Zoe Sawyer’s eyes, but when she tried to do more, the resistance before her was greater than ever. She couldn’t move at all.
She could only watch helplessly as the scene unfolded before her.
"Let me go... This is a crime! You’ll be caught! If you let me go, I won’t call the police. We can just pretend this never happened." Miss Miller had woken from her stupor and began to struggle frantically.
But having inhaled some kind of knockout drug, her body had no strength. To the man, her struggles were like a tickle, carrying no threat whatsoever.
The man’s attention was quickly captured by Miss Miller’s movements, a flicker of excitement in his eyes.
’A docile lamb is nice, but a feisty kitten is more of a challenge.’
While his hands tightened their grip, his other actions didn’t stop.
The man said in broken Chinese, "Good girl. Behave."
As his movements grew wider, the shirt hidden under his black jacket was revealed.
Under the black jacket was a white shirt with three gold stripes on the shoulder.
Zoe Sawyer stared intently, hoping to see more so she could help Evan Keller and the others catch him quickly.
The moment Miss Miller took her last breath, Zoe Sawyer was violently thrown back from the door.
Heath Hale was experienced this time. He was already standing behind her, forming a fan shape with Barry Quinn and Monkey.
No matter which way Zoe Sawyer was thrown, someone would be there to catch her.
This time, however, Zoe Sawyer wasn’t thrown far. She only stumbled back several steps before Heath Hale caught her by the shoulders.
Once Zoe Sawyer was sitting steadily, the other four men all fixed their gazes on her, their eyes filled with expectation.
Zoe Sawyer took a sip of the water beside her, composed herself, and then nodded at them. "I saw his face. He’s a white man."
Realization instantly dawned on Evan Keller and Heath Hale.
’Of course, of course.’
’Besides undocumented residents, there are also foreigners!’
’How could we have overlooked that!’
’No wonder we couldn’t find a match in the database. The fundamental reason is that he isn’t a citizen of this country!’
"I’ll call Vivian Dunn right now and have her check if Beau is in the office," Evan Keller said without hesitation, immediately dialing Vivian’s number.
Beau’s studies had reached a critical stage, which was why they hadn’t brought her on this trip.
After getting an affirmative answer, Vivian Dunn quickly passed the phone to Beau.
Zoe Sawyer spent nearly an hour describing the man to Beau until the sketch was finally complete.
After seeing the sketch Vivian Dunn sent over, Zoe Sawyer nodded with absolute certainty. ’That’s him!’
It wasn’t a perfect match, but it was at least ninety percent similar.
They definitely wouldn’t go wrong looking for someone based on this sketch.
"The killer was also wearing a white shirt with three gold stripes here," Zoe Sawyer explained to the four men, describing what she’d seen. "I don’t know if there was a fourth one; it was covered by his jacket, so I couldn’t see."
Heath Hale rubbed his chin. ’Why does that look so much like a pilot’s uniform?’
"Something was very wrong with the victim’s situation, too. It wasn’t consensual. It looked more like she was drugged and abducted," Zoe Sawyer added, not forgetting to describe to the four men how Miss Miller was led away and how she later struggled and begged for her life.
After relaying everything she had seen about the killer, Zoe Sawyer continued, "Then, on the door itself, I also saw a message about Lynn Grant."
When he heard that Lynn Grant was going to be drugged, abducted, and killed tonight, Evan Keller’s expression turned incredibly grim.
He wanted to rush back immediately to protect Lynn Grant.
But he was in the middle of a mission; he couldn’t just abandon his current duties. Yet, Evan Keller couldn’t possibly ignore the implications of what he’d just heard.
"Don’t worry. The fact that Zoe saw this gives us a chance to prevent it," Heath Hale said, patting Evan Keller’s shoulder to calm him down. "Let’s tell Lynn Grant and the Chief about this first. We just need to make sure Lynn doesn’t leave the station tonight."
They still had time. They still had a chance to change the outcome.
Evan Keller calmed down and immediately dialed the Chief’s number. He briefly explained the situation and requested that the Chief keep Lynn Grant at the station for the night.
"I understand. I’ll call Lynn over. She has a right to know about this," the Chief agreed. He then stopped a young officer passing his office and asked him to get Lynn Grant.
When Lynn Grant arrived and heard what was happening and Evan Keller’s request, she refused without a moment’s hesitation. "No. If I don’t go out tonight, what if he just targets another innocent person instead?"
"I can’t live with myself if my backing down causes the killer to go after another innocent person. Evan, I know you mean well, but I’m a police officer too. I have a duty to protect the public."
As soon as she finished speaking, silence fell on both ends of the line.
’She’s right. If not Lynn Grant, what if the killer just switched his target to someone else?’
None of them could accept that on their conscience.
Evan Keller opened his mouth to say something, but ultimately said nothing.
"Um..."
Zoe Sawyer spoke up tentatively, drawing everyone’s attention.
"Aren’t you all overthinking this? We can just have other people shadow Lynn to protect her."
