Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Go Directly to the New Scene

At the mention of this, the bureau chief’s expression showed a hint of relief.

The captain was a little confused. His own professional skills were sharp, and he had already investigated every angle he could think of.

’Does this outside help have some special method for digging up more details?’

Perhaps the captain’s doubtful expression was too obvious. The bureau chief wagged his finger, a cryptic smile on his face. "You’ll see when the time comes. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed."

"For now, hurry up and organize the files. When our colleagues from the other precincts arrive, we can discuss these cases. Who knows, we might find a break and catch the killer ourselves without even needing the specialist!"

The captain smiled but didn’t reply, though his hands moved much faster as he gathered the documents.

’No matter what, I still have to do my job to the best of my ability.’

’Without knowing anything about this "specialist," I’d rather trust my own skills!’

Meanwhile, to Zoe Sawyer’s great relief, Evan Keller finally returned from the provincial bureau after nearly ten days, and he brought several pieces of good news with him.

"Ruby and her lackeys were executed the day after I went up," Evan announced to everyone as soon as he stepped into the office.

The others all breathed a collective sigh of relief upon hearing she was finally dead.

"Is there more? What about Six?" Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but ask.

After all, the damage Six had caused was horrific; he had even resorted to using bombs.

If Zoe’s ability hadn’t come into play, the potential impact and casualties were unthinkable.

"Six’s situation is similar to Ruby’s. He’s tight-lipped, not an easy nut to crack."

"But his subordinates were much easier. After a few rounds of interrogation, some of them started talking." Evan didn’t hesitate to share what had happened over the past few days with Zoe and the others.

Six’s men weren’t nearly as tough. While no single person knew much, each one revealed a little piece. The police then followed up on the addresses they provided.

They successfully raided quite a few of Six’s hideouts.

The evidence they found was enough to put Six in front of a firing squad for two hours.

The information from Six’s trusted lieutenant was more significant.

He gave up five locations in total. Raiding four of them went smoothly, but by the time the provincial bureau’s task force arrived at the last one, it had been completely cleared out. Not a single thing was left behind.

They were clearly a step too late.

At the time, Evan had wondered if the "big sister" they mentioned had sent people to move everything.

With the experience from interrogating Ruby, handling Six was much easier this time.

Before Evan returned, Six was already showing signs of cracking. They believed it wouldn’t be long before he, just like Ruby, confessed everything he knew.

Compared to the tight-lipped Six, Dexter Bishop’s case was much more straightforward.

They had not only dealt with dangerous materials but had also placed them in public areas, endangering public safety and causing significant panic.

This included the bombs planted in the old residential complex, the two at The Lumina, and the meat buns from before.

Each of them had more than one life on their hands.

The death penalty was a certainty, but the timing would vary.

Unlike Dexter Bishop and Wyatt Ford who faced immediate execution, someone like Pierce Miller would be sentenced to death with a reprieve of several years.

"Didn’t the chief tell you to wait until everything over there was finished before coming back? Why are you back now?" Sean Hughes leaned in curiously, a hint of delight in his voice.

’It’s great that he’s back, just great.’

’Now that Evan is back, someone can share my workload! I can even play the victim a little and get him to take over some of my tasks!’

Sean’s gleeful tone and expression were probably too obvious, as Evan immediately guessed what he was thinking.

"Don’t even think about it. It’s because of an urgent case. Half a month ago, a random murder occurred in the neighboring province. The victim had a simple social circle, no financial or romantic disputes, and hadn’t offended anyone."

"The local police checked the surveillance footage and found nothing. They extracted the killer’s DNA, but it didn’t match anyone in the database. Too much time has passed, so their bureau chief had no choice but to contact ours, hoping Zoe Sawyer could go over and assist with the arrest."

Evan briefly explained the reason for his return and summarized the case for them.

It wasn’t just one case; similar incidents had occurred in other places over the last two weeks.

And with each murder, the killer left behind less evidence.

It was the police over there who realized something was wrong. After carefully comparing the cases, they finally found commonalities and requested to have them consolidated.

At the same time, they needed Zoe Sawyer to go and help.

After all, the death toll had already reached five people!

Behind every life lost was a shattered family.

The police were also desperate to solve the case quickly, catch the killer, and bring some measure of comfort to the victims’ families.

After hearing the whole story, Sean Hughes sucked in a sharp breath. "Indiscriminate killings? And a serial killer on the move? The difficulty of this case is off the charts!"

’No wonder they specifically requested Zoe!’

"I understand. When do we leave?" Zoe nodded and asked about the timing.

She had anticipated situations like this ever since she revealed her ability to the department.

After all, she was receiving protection from Barry Quinn and the others, had a stable government job, and always received every bit of the bonus and salary she was due after solving a case.

They hadn’t dissected her for research; instead, they protected her and paid her.

Now, just going over to help find clues was something Zoe could completely accept.

"We leave tomorrow. Go back and pack your bags," Evan said, patting Zoe’s shoulder. "This time, it’ll be me, you, Barry Quinn, Monkey, and Heath Hale."

"Sean Hughes, you’re staying here to continue handling my work."

They were just going to assist, after all; no need to bring too many people.

With that, Evan left in a hurry.

After Six was apprehended, he had gone straight to the provincial bureau and hadn’t had a chance to contact his family.

Since he had a rare break today, he needed to go home and let them know he was safe.

Sean Hughes let out a wail and leaned against Zoe. "Damn it! Evan is definitely getting back at me for what I said earlier! I want to go with you too!"

But despite his complaints, as soon as the lunch break was over, Sean stood up and went back to work.

Grumbling was one thing, but he still completed every task that needed to be done.

Zoe didn’t say anything and just went back to her dorm to quickly pack a couple of outfits.

Early the next morning, the group of five boarded a high-speed train to the neighboring province.

Before they had even gotten off the train, Evan received a call from the bureau chief.

"Change of plans, there’s been another murder! Head directly to the new crime scene!"
