Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Apprehension and a New Corpse

The words were barely out when Monkey shot forward. He clamped a hand over the man’s mouth, pinned his arms, and stopped him from calling for help.

Then, he pulled the man’s pistol from the back of his waistband. It wasn’t a fake—it was the real deal.

’Good. Confirmed.’

Finally, with Barry Quinn’s help, Monkey knocked the man unconscious with a single blow from his baton.

"Hsss."

Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath as she watched Monkey drag the man back with a grimly serious expression.

Evan Keller sent Sean Hughes and the others their precise location, telling them to get there fast.

Meanwhile, his own team would slowly deal with the scattered lookouts.

They were in the city center, so the East and West Varden police precincts weren’t far apart. It didn’t take long for backup to arrive in the vicinity.

However, according to the statements from the two men captured at The Lumina, Six had a bomb, and it was likely a powerful one.

They couldn’t just storm the place. If they pushed him into a corner, he might lash out and detonate the bomb. That would be a disaster for everyone.

They had no choice. The provincial bureau team, Sean Hughes, and the officers from East Varden could only take cover in the surrounding buildings.

For the moment, everyone was at a standstill, unsure of their next move.

"There’s a room on the third floor with the curtains completely drawn," a member of the provincial team reported to his captain after a period of observation. "Someone keeps pulling them aside to scan the area. The target must be in there."

They hadn’t used patrol cars, and the local residents were still at work, so they didn’t have to worry about causing a major disturbance.

But if this dragged on, things could get ugly.

It could easily cause public panic and would also alert their target.

They had to end this quickly.

"Let me do it! Let me try!" Seeing their predicament, Zoe Sawyer grabbed a blank piece of paper from a nearby table and drew a small door on it.

She then opened the door, attached the tiny surveillance device to a stick, and poked it through.

This time, Zoe Sawyer had chosen a spot at the bottom of the door. The opening was small, just big enough for the camera to pass through, so the people inside didn’t notice a thing.

The view of the entire room was quickly transmitted from the device to Evan Keller’s and Heath Hale’s phones.

The room’s curtains were drawn shut. Two men stood at each window, periodically peering outside.

A man sat on the sofa to the left, one leg crossed over the other, fiddling with what looked like a remote control. A wooden box rested by his feet. From the camera feed, they could identify him as their target: Six!

Three other men sat opposite Six, each holding a gun, their expressions grim.

Once they confirmed the number of hostiles and their positions, Evan Keller and his team felt a surge of confidence.

The trickiest part before had been the uncertainty about the number of people inside and their layout.

Now that they had a general idea, things were much simpler.

Evan Keller and the others quickly drew up a plan of action.

The main force downstairs would draw their fire. Evan Keller would lead his team down from the roof, just like with Dexter Bishop, catching them in a pincer movement.

The most crucial part of the plan was for Zoe Sawyer to wait until the six other men moved toward the door. She would then open a portal behind Six, restrain him, and snatch the device from his hands.

The small portal would be kept open. Heath Hale would use it to provide real-time updates, allowing them to make adjustments as they moved.

After confirming that everyone understood, Evan Keller coordinated with the team downstairs. Then, they all moved at once.

"Boss! The cops are really here!" The man at the window was the first to spot Sean Hughes and his team, and he immediately turned to report to Six.

Six shot up from the sofa, his face dark and vicious. "Shoot back! If it comes down to it, we’ll take these cops to hell with us!"

The men who had stuck with Six this long were all desperate criminals who didn’t fear death.

Even the man who had been slapped earlier knew his fate: either die here or die staring down the barrel of a police gun.

Since death was the only outcome, they might as well go out with a bang.

"Right!"

With an excited roar, the six other men drew their weapons and took up positions by the window, ready for a fight.

’Wait a minute,’ Six thought. ’The enemy is here, but the lookout on the roof didn’t signal us. Why?’

Standing behind his men, Six suddenly remembered he had posted a man on the roof as a lookout.

’The guys by the window saw them, so there’s no way the lookout on the roof missed it!’

’Unless... he’s been caught!’

The thought had barely surfaced when two pairs of large hands reached out from behind, clamping over Six’s mouth and snatching the remote from his hand. One person grabbed him, covering his eyes and mouth, while another lifted his legs, and they pulled him up onto the roof.

The entire process was as smooth as flowing water, a display of perfect coordination that took less than thirty seconds.

Heath Hale didn’t even spare a glance for his phone, following behind Barry Quinn and Monkey to move the wooden box, which looked small but was actually quite heavy.

Then, Zoe Sawyer quickly closed the door, as if nothing had ever happened.

Meanwhile, the men with their backs to Six were completely oblivious that their boss had just been captured.

Heath Hale gestured to Monkey, signaling him to tie the man up.

Gag his mouth, plug his ears, and cover his eyes.

It wasn’t just officers from their own precinct on this operation; teams from East Varden and the provincial bureau were also present.

They couldn’t let them find out about Zoe Sawyer’s secret.

In no time, Monkey and Barry Quinn had Six secured.

Six was curled up on the ground like a shrimp, his eyes, ears, and mouth all blocked.

The terror of being unable to see or hear anything swept over him.

He couldn’t stop himself from letting out muffled groans.

Barry Quinn, standing nearby, kicked him hard in the thigh, not holding back. If Heath Hale hadn’t been wearing a body cam, he would have given the bastard a real taste of his fists.

Heath Hale turned with conspicuous casualness, leaning over to check the situation below. At the same time, he started narrating in a deliberately offhand manner, "The arrest has gone smoothly. The ringleader put up some serious resistance, though. He sustained some minor, non-life-threatening injuries during the capture."

"Man, I wonder what stage Evan Keller and his team are at now."

As if on cue, Barry Quinn and Monkey clenched their fists and gave Six a flurry of punches and kicks.

Still, they knew how to hold back and didn’t cause any serious injury.

Downstairs, the operation was going even more smoothly than Zoe Sawyer had anticipated.

With the bomb threat neutralized and the six men inside having limited ammunition, they were quickly apprehended by Evan Keller and his team.

"Let’s wrap it up! Get these guys out of here, and don’t disturb the other residents," Sean Hughes ordered as he directed his team to secure the scene.

As they were all heading back to the station, a passenger plane flew overhead.

Meanwhile, in the city where that plane had just taken off, a completely naked woman lay on a concrete floor, her breathing slowly fading away.

Her vacant eyes were fixed on the door.
