My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 125: Infiltrating the Inside
Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Infiltrating the Inside
Barry Quinn looked at Zoe Sawyer, his expression serious.
"Don’t worry. I’ve been ready ever since the day I agreed," Zoe Sawyer said, patting her chest to reassure Barry Quinn.
Over the next few days, if Anne Dawson wasn’t extending an invitation, Zoe Sawyer would take the initiative to ask her out.
During their meetings, Zoe Sawyer never forgot her cover, asking Anne Dawson every day what she should do to win back her boyfriend’s heart.
Vivian Dunn, for her part, played the role of a worried friend who was afraid Zoe was being scammed, tagging along every time.
Slowly, it seemed as if both of them were being brainwashed by Anne Dawson’s words.
Zoe Sawyer stopped clamoring about winning back her boyfriend’s heart, and Vivian Dunn no longer resisted her friend meeting with Anne.
Anne Dawson saw that the time was about right. She could take them back with her and proceed to the next step.
"Would you like to come back with me and see? There are a lot of young people at our place, just like you, who all have their own troubles. If you meet them, you might even find some common ground." Anne Dawson’s voice was full of temptation, her tone gentle, and a smile played on her lips.
Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn looked conflicted, but in the end, they nodded in agreement.
The car soon pulled up in front of a four-story, standalone building. Seeing the security guard at the entrance, Zoe Sawyer nervously leaned against Vivian Dunn. Under the cover of her skirt and jacket, she took the small tracking device that Vivian handed her.
She then reached into a specially-cut pocket in her skirt, tossed the tracking device through the door back to the office, and gave a hand signal to Heath Hale, who was waiting in the office, to show that everything was going smoothly.
Heath Hale and the others breathed a sigh of relief. They had finally moved on to the next stage.
They had originally thought Anne Dawson would take them back immediately, but it turned out that while she was ostensibly meeting with Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn, she had secretly ordered a background check on Zoe.
If they hadn’t prepared a fake background and made thorough preparations in advance, they might have been caught completely off guard.
At the same time, Heath Hale and the others also placed items Zoe Sawyer might need by the office door, so they could get them to her quickly if she needed them.
Meanwhile, after getting out of the car with Anne Dawson, Zoe Sawyer was led into a room.
"Sawyer, you know, the world has a huge misunderstanding about us. They think that anyone who doesn’t see eye-to-eye with them is a heretic, and people often come here under all sorts of pretexts to cause trouble.
"So for security, everyone who comes home has to be searched. The same goes for when they leave, of course. It’s to prevent anyone from taking things that belong to others in our home, which could cause conflict.
"Everything we do, we do for each other. I hope you can understand." Anne Dawson spread her arms, allowing the woman in front of her to search her, all while turning her head to explain to Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn.
Zoe watched as Anne Dawson was searched from head to toe. Not even a single strand of her hair or her shoe insoles was overlooked. She even had to open her mouth for the woman to inspect.
Observing the entire process, Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but be secretly astonished. ’No wonder our undercover colleague couldn’t get any information out,’ she thought. ’Besides swallowing it, what other way is there?’
Because they had prepared in advance, Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn passed the inspection with ease.
Seeing this, Anne Dawson, who had been watching the whole time, couldn’t help but let a smile touch her lips.
As they left the room and walked through the living room deeper into the building, Zoe Sawyer couldn’t help but scan her surroundings.
There weren’t many rooms on the first floor. Through the crack of an open door, she could see many things stored inside, but before Zoe could get a closer look, Anne Dawson stepped over and shut the door firmly.
"That’s just where the family stores miscellaneous things. It’s not cleaned up yet, nothing to see," Anne Dawson said dismissively before leading the two to the backyard and up an external staircase to the second floor.
Each floor of the standalone building was about 200 square meters. The number of rooms on the second floor was similar to the first, but its living room was filled with computer stations.
A number of people were sitting in front of the computers, typing away. Each one of them looked serious, as if they were handling incredibly important matters.
When they saw Anne Dawson, they greeted her enthusiastically.
Through an open doorway, she could see a room filled with bunk beds—presumably where this group of people slept.
"This is where the members of our The All-Supreme Sect live," Anne Dawson said, pointing at the beds in the second-floor rooms with an excited tone. "It might look a bit crowded, but every night, when everyone gets together for discussions, it’s incredibly lively and joyful. They treat this place as their home. Everyone contributes to this big family in their own way, all wanting to provide a good life for their family."
Zoe Sawyer keenly noticed that the doors to the two rearmost rooms on the second floor were closed. Some people flinched subconsciously as they walked past them, as if something they feared was inside.
The third floor was nicer. The spacious living room was where they held classes, and the tightly-shut rooms were workshops.
As for the fourth floor, according to Anne Dawson, that was where the "elders" lived. They were exhausted every day and needed a quiet space to ensure they got enough sleep.
During the tour, a few handsome young men would "coincidentally" run into the three of them and slip Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn some snacks.
There was milk tea, fruit, small cakes, and even roses.
Anne Dawson laughed and chided, "What, am I invisible to you guys? Not saving any of the good stuff for me?"
The young man in the lead rubbed the back of his head, his cheeks flushing red, and explained shyly, "If you’d like some, Anne, I can get them for you later. I just thought, since we have new members joining our warm little family, I should give them a welcome gift."
Anne Dawson pointed a finger at them, her expression a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Fine, but don’t make a habit of it."
Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn put on appropriately surprised expressions.
’If we didn’t already know what kind of place this was, we might have actually been fooled by these people. Their expressions, actions, and interactions were all so natural, as if this was just how they always behaved.’
Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn played along, but inwardly, their alarms were blaring. ’They wouldn’t do this for no reason. They must have other tricks up their sleeves!’
’A honey trap?’
Before leaving, the young man in the lead gave Zoe Sawyer a look, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back. His blushing face, his shy expression, and the way he nervously tugged at the hem of his shirt...
...every action, every detail, all of it was meant to tell Zoe Sawyer, ’I’m very interested in you.’
Vivian Dunn moved up behind Zoe Sawyer and gently tugged the hem of her clothes, reminding her to be careful.
Zoe Sawyer squeezed Vivian Dunn’s fingers in return, signaling that she understood.
"I’ve never seen that boy act so shy before," Anne said. "Looks like you really have a hold on him, Sawyer."
