Chapter 115: Chapter 115: The Payne Siblings’ Downfall

Evan Keller shook his head. "If Julia Payne is the mother of those twins, then her brother must be dead."

Evan Keller then briefly recounted Number Three’s confession to the Armed Police Captain.

Combining this with the statements from the others, the captain suddenly pieced everything together.

He finally understood what the twins had been trying to say.

"This is just awful. Now all we can do is wait for this new mother, Julia Payne, to wake up." The captain rubbed his head and sat down on a nearby stool.

Soon, Julia Payne awoke from her unconscious state. The first thing she saw was that she wasn’t in a familiar room. Thinking back to what happened before she passed out, she understood the situation.

Sure enough, less than five minutes after she regained consciousness, the captain walked in with Evan Keller and a records officer.

The captain looked at Julia Payne. Her face was pale, but her mind seemed exceptionally sharp. He slapped the notebook in his hand onto the table. "Talk. Why would you do something like this?

How did you find this website? Who else is helping you?"

Julia Payne ran a hand through her hair, trying to make herself look more put-together.

Now that she’d been caught, she knew what she’d done was exposed. She had no intention of trying to argue her way out of it.

"For the money, of course. Videos for bizarre tastes are the most popular. As long as you post them, you never have to worry about traffic, and the tips are very generous.

Livestreaming earns even more. The moment you go live, huge gift donations start rolling in every few days. It’s much more than you can make at a regular job," Julia Payne said, her tone nonchalant.

’Why?

What other reason could there be besides money.’

She never regretted her actions. Her only regret was choosing to return to her home country to save money at the beginning.

’If I’d gone to any other neighboring country, I probably wouldn’t have been caught.’

Through the back-and-forth questioning, Evan Keller and the others finally understood how it all began.

At first, the two siblings were quite normal. While studying abroad, they worked part-time jobs to cover their living expenses and studied hard, planning to graduate and return home to make their mark.

Then, Julia Payne started dating. Her first and only boyfriend was the Latino man from the files.

She watched as her boyfriend treated money like just a number, buying whatever he wanted. Even if he didn’t have enough one day, he’d have it the next.

At first, Julia Payne thought her boyfriend was from a rich family. Only after getting to know him better did she discover he was an orphan who, not long ago, had been struggling to get by on welfare.

Two months into their relationship, the Payne siblings were robbed. They had no money for rent, and their tuition was also due.

Desperate, Julia Payne tentatively asked her boyfriend how he made his money.

Her boyfriend didn’t answer. He just told the two of them to come stay at his place that night, and they would find out then.

Because they were so desperate for money, the siblings discussed it and ultimately decided to go see for themselves.

That night, the three of them raised their glasses in a toast. After a few drinks, Julia Payne, not forgetting her purpose for being there, finally asked.

Her boyfriend handed each of them a drink, saying they’d understand after they drank it. Unsuspecting, they both drank.

When Julia Payne woke up again, she saw the marks on her body and broke down, crying out loud. The two sleeping men were startled awake by her sobs.

Julia Payne’s brother wasn’t an idiot; he could see what had happened. He swung his fist at the boyfriend’s face.

Just as the punch was about to land, the boyfriend dodged it and quickly pulled up his account dashboard for them to see the previous night’s earnings.

When they saw the string of numbers, the siblings fell silent.

The amount was enough to solve their immediate crisis, with plenty to spare.

Seeing their hesitation and wavering, the boyfriend struck while the iron was hot. He used his smooth-talking skills to offer them all of last night’s earnings and invited them to join him.

They could livestream together—not only would it be fun, but they could also make easy money. What’s not to like?

But the Payne siblings refused. They still had their limits.

But after making that easy money, any kind of honest work felt like torture to them.

After paying their rent and tuition, they looked at what little was left of their savings.

While working their part-time jobs, they couldn’t stop thinking about what the boyfriend had said.

Having tasted easy money, going back to a real job was just too painful.

After agonizing over it for a week, the Payne siblings, now completely broke, went back to the boyfriend.

Afterward, the three of them moved in together and began their money-making venture. It was just as he had said: the money came in fast, and their daily earnings were more than enough for them to live lavishly.

Gradually, they stopped working their jobs and stopped going to school. The three of them would wake up and just think about how they were going to make money that night.

This went on until six months later, when Julia Payne unexpectedly became pregnant.

The moment he found out she was pregnant, her boyfriend vanished without a trace, taking all the money with him.

Unwilling to go back to being poor, Julia Payne gritted her teeth and decided to continue.

She would livestream again, earn enough for a ticket back home, and then find a remote place to keep broadcasting.

She hadn’t been idle during those six months. She’d discovered that some people on the dark web loved watching videos with bizarre themes, and an idea began to form in her mind.

So she decided to return home and orchestrated this whole series of events.

But she’d slipped up. Two people managed to escape, creating a disturbance that led to her capture.

As for what happened after that, the police already knew.

After Julia Payne finished her story and the record was compiled, the captain—a man who had seen it all—looked at the interrogation transcript and pursed his lips in discomfort.

The contents were too much for him to stomach. No, it was too much for any normal person to stomach.

To do whatever it takes for money, to such an extent... even throwing her own body into the scheme.

"Your newborn child has died. My condolences," Evan Keller said, stopping to tell Julia Payne.

Julia Payne stared at her fingernails, her voice filled with indifference. "Dead is dead... Whether someone like that lives or dies is no big deal."

’I’ve been caught anyway, so I definitely can’t livestream anymore. That means I don’t have to worry about what happens to those children.’

Julia Payne’s words had the shameless ring of someone with nothing left to lose.

Not wanting to drag it out, Evan Keller decided to wrap this up. He looked at Julia Payne and asked his final question. "How did your VPN manage to evade the cyber police for so long? And what did you do with all the money in your dark web account?"

Julia Payne stopped picking at her nails. Her eyes were fixed on Evan Keller, and she suddenly burst out laughing.

"You want me to rat them out? Fine. But what’s in it for me? I’m not about to work for free and piss off a bunch of people for nothing."
