My Stubborn Soul Card Follower
Chapter 1200 - 667: Modification of the Buffer Zone (Part 2)
Chapter 1200: Chapter 667: Modification of the Buffer Zone (Part 2)
Vivian perked up the moment she heard "Duel": "Oh? And how did it go?"
"Miss Alice has already lost five matches."
"Huh? How many matches in total?"
"Five..."
Vivian’s mouth twitched: "That guy Sui didn’t let her win a single one?"
"Master is like that." Qishala showed a faint smile—this kind of genuine smile only appeared when she was talking about Shen Sui. "He’s easygoing about everything else, but when it comes to women and Duels, he never holds back."
"That guy is really..."
Vivian shook her head helplessly.
"Let’s hope he doesn’t crush Alice’s mentality. She finally started liking Life Card Duels."
Qishala said, "Miss Alice is very resilient. Her enthusiasm will probably get even higher instead."
"Right." Vivian seemed to remember something and said to Qishala, "Are the spare rooms ready?"
"I’ve already prepared dedicated rooms for Miss Anna and Miss Aina," Qishala replied.
"Qishala, you really are reliable." Vivian smiled.
Alice’s final record stopped at 0–13.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! Why can’t I win no matter what?" Alice huffed angrily.
"You’re still too impatient." After using a hand trap in the last game to blow up her final hope of a comeback, Shen Sui said with a laugh, "I was playing with all timing windows open—don’t you check timings?"
Alice shot him a glare. "Even if I see them, so what? I only had that one chance. I could only gamble once."
"That’s true." Shen Sui reviewed the match in his head and agreed.
Shen Sui sneaked a careful look at Alice.
He’d thought this wave would completely break Alice’s mentality, but instead her eyes were even more fired up.
"Still coming next time?"
"I’m still coming next time!" Alice said firmly.
Shen Sui smiled faintly. "I hope you can at least win one by then."
"Hmph, if it’s because you go easy on me and I win, I’m not counting it," Alice said, crossing her arms, full of tsundere pride.
Shen Sui waved his hand. "Alright, get some proper rest these next few days. Once you head for the Dawn Continent, nobody’s going to be around to Duel you."
"Even if there were, I wouldn’t be in the mood to Duel." Alice put her hands on her hips and looked toward the distant sunset glow.
On the third day, after finishing her rest, Alice returned to the Dawn Continent.
Alice didn’t immediately throw herself into work. Instead, she leveraged her connections to start searching all over the continent for historical documents and regional myths and legends.
Right after that, she transmitted these materials to Xinyuan Tanchun through Isabella.
Through the combined efforts of Xinyuan Tanchun and Anna, they analyzed these documents and compiled a catalog of the Gods.
Only after finishing all this prep work did Alice begin the next phase.
She kept switching identities—sometimes the Pope of the Master of Thunder, sometimes the Saintess of the Lady of Daylight, and sometimes the captain of the War God Church.
Anyone else would’ve gone insane from constantly swapping identities like that, but for Alice, this was basically day-to-day life.
She had hundreds of forms, after all!
Alice appeared at times in the mountains, at times in the rivers and seas.
Holding the Catalog of Gods in her hand, she began clearing the Gods off the continent one by one as if going through a household registry.
A new round of Twilight of the Gods began.
However, as later historians would say, this period should more properly be called "The Night Before Dawn."
The Dawn Saintess already possessed the power to sweep all Gods from under heaven.
Yet she was still operating under the guise of the Three Great Churches.
On the surface, people couldn’t see any trace of Dawn’s activities.
But in the shadows, the Gods on the Dawn Continent were decreasing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
This wave of divine demise and destruction was even more thorough than the last Twilight of the Gods that Vivian had set off.
Anything that had even a trace of Divinity—Alice spared none of it.
While Alice was carrying out a complete extermination of the Gods on the Dawn Continent, Shen Sui was not idle either.
He was modifying the buffer zone.
This was based on the experience he’d summed up during the battles in the buffer zone at the North American Conference.
Drawing on the web novels he’d read in his previous life, he started changing the buffer zone’s settings into something like a game dungeon instance.
Whenever an external invader was captured by the Little Insect Lady, the spider silk would simulate a copy of the buffer zone based on the invader’s memories.
That way, when a Life Card Master entered to fight the invader, they could use the information inside the dungeon to learn the invader’s relevant intel.
At the same time, by borrowing Alice’s domain powers, the invader’s abilities would transform into Life Cards, forming his deck together with his servants inside that dungeon.
With this modification, invaders would no longer be able to use their Extraordinary Power directly to ambush Life Card Masters.
This change was a mixed bag.
The downside was that Life Card Masters could no longer pull off a First Encounter Kill to cheese those Extraordinary who had never even seen a Life Card Duel.
It’s just that after the North American Conference, Extraordinary like that had probably decreased substantially anyway—most of the Extraordinary who had invasion designs on the real world got badly burned and were Destroyed in that conference.
Rather than letting these guys get more and more insidious, hiding in the dark and ambushing Life Card Masters, it was better to force them to have decks and make them fight Life Card Masters only through Duels.
That was one of the upsides of this overhaul.
Another benefit was that, with the introduction of dungeons, Life Card Masters and their Soul Cards could coordinate more intuitively, and it became much clearer how to reap new Life Cards in those dungeon worlds.
They could solve puzzles, they could fight.
Operating in a dungeon world with its own story and background provided far more room for cooperation and interaction than an empty space where the only goal was to jump straight to the boss fight.
This was also a problem Shen Sui had noticed during the North American Conference from watching how Life Card Masters and Soul Cards interacted in battle.
Because there was only a single fixed enemy in the buffer zone, aside from that enemy, the only things they could talk about were the old Soul Card World topics.
And previously, Life Card Masters mostly communicated with their Soul Cards through text on the Dueling Device, which inevitably got awkward.
Shen Sui had built the buffer zone partly to block invading Extraordinary, and partly to deepen the communication between Life Card Masters and Soul Cards, to prevent tragedies like Lin Zhen’s from happening again.
So, when he saw that the initial version of the buffer zone hadn’t achieved the results he and Vivian wanted, Shen Sui started reworking it.
He had already brought this up back at the North American Conference.
Although many people strongly opposed it, even more people agreed.
So after informing the high-ranking officials of the various countries present, Shen Sui began to overhaul the buffer zone.
It had to be said, Alice still managed to give Shen Sui a big surprise.
He’d originally been scratching his head over how to make those damned invaders obediently use cards to Duel, and then Alice casually pulled out a card-battle domain on the Dawn Continent, based on Life Card Duels.
So this Duel rule—originating from the Dawn Continent, copied by Alice back to the real world and used for Godslaying on the Dawn Continent—was shamelessly transplanted by Shen Sui into the buffer zone dungeons in the real world.
The results were pretty good.
The initial work was quickly completed.
Looking at the buffer zone, now completely remodeled beyond recognition, Shen Sui mulled over whether he should run a test round.
Hmm...
Better to wait until Alice was fully done with matters on the Dawn Continent.
There was plenty of time anyway.
Thinking this, Shen Sui opened his Dueling Device, wanting to check on Alice’s current situation.
He opened the Dueling Device and took a look.
Alice had already wiped out all the Gods except the Master of Thunder.
The public opinion system she had established began to show its strength at this moment.
The crimes of the Gods and the Church were being exposed one after another.
All of this came with solid evidence backing it up.
The original purpose of this publicity was to justify the Three Great Churches’ destruction of these Gods.
But would Alice be that kind?
In these reports, Alice began mixing in her own agenda, subtly flinging mud at the Three Great Churches through the use of analogies.
People, already extremely dissatisfied with years of constant warfare, began to grow increasingly discontent with the Three Great Churches, who were still waging war against each other.
And under Alice’s deliberate indulgence, the higher-ups of the Three Great Churches remained completely unaware of this.
What could they do? Their leader was the biggest traitor of all.
