Chapter 1093: Chapter 613: Baris Feels Excited_2
And His meaning was that the one who should have killed Alice should be His Pope. In other words, Alice wasn’t qualified to die by His hand.
Anyone who saw the Master of Thunder’s recent humiliating state would find this statement somewhat exaggeratedly humorous. But sometimes, even the worst excuse is more dignified than having no excuse at all.
"Bargas is still watching, so I think today’s fight should end here." This sentence was meant for Baris to hear; He wanted to retreat and instructed Baris not to pursue, to prevent the War God from reaping the benefits.
From the Master of Thunder’s perspective, these words made perfect sense.
But from the viewpoint of Shen Sui and others who already knew the War God had been humiliated, it was slightly comical.
Baris didn’t speak directly, but this already conveyed her stance.
The Master of Thunder gave Alice a deep look before turning and leaving. What He was concerned about now was whether Daylight had discovered that the divinity He had bestowed upon Alice was now gone.
If it were other gods, they might have discovered it immediately, but Daylight was a little different.
His power came more from the Power of Daylight, not divinity, so compared to other gods, He did not highly value the accumulation of divinity. The vast divinity within Him was more a result of divinity automatically gathering on Him due to its cohesive property after eliminating other gods.
This made Daylight very insensitive to divinity. Perhaps only when He needed to compete with other deities for divinity would He notice the absence of it.
If Shen Sui knew the content of the Master of Thunder’s assumptions, he would probably be amused and exasperated at the same time.
Oh no... actually, he already was.
"Eh?" After watching the Master of Thunder leave, Alice exclaimed in surprise.
Shen Sui curiously asked, "What’s the matter?"
"The puppet I left with Roland received a divine mandate from the Master of Thunder..."
The Thunder Pope is a persona of Alice, but recently Alice clearly hasn’t had the energy to manage this persona. While the affairs of the Thunder Church can be handed over to Anna, there still needs to be a physical entity for the Pope.
Alice’s puppet-making skills are strong, but it is still somewhat difficult to deceive a Main God-level deity like the Master of Thunder, so Shen Sui asked Vivian to help Alice make a puppet to replace the Pope.
Obviously, the Master of Thunder did not notice the oddity and issued a divine mandate to the puppet.
Alice relayed the contents of the divine mandate to Shen Sui with a complicated expression.
First, Alice was to immediately advance to the front lines and fight against the Saintess of the Daylight Church, continuously applying pressure on her, and if necessary, she could ask Him for the blessing of divine power through prayer, but she was not to kill her.
Second, the Church members hidden within the Daylight Church should start taking action, striving to make Alice the undisputed spokesperson of the Daylight Church while creating a perfect image of her loyalty to Daylight.
Third, the Thunder believers on the front lines were ambushed by the War God Church during the retreat and were completely annihilated.
"Completely annihilated... ambushed by the War God Church..."
If it weren’t for the fact that the War God Church is also under Alice’s control, she might have believed the Master of Thunder’s lies.
Obviously, those believers who retreated with the Master of Thunder were all dealt with by Him.
He would never allow those who witnessed His disgraceful behavior to continue living.
Enemy slander and eyewitness accounts from His own followers are worlds apart.
Seeing this, Alice couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy at heart.
It’s not that she felt sorry for the dead Thunder believers. In fact, those Thunder believers at the front line were all hardliners within the Church, fanatics of the Master of Thunder, so Alice deliberately sent them over, intending for them to die, to deplete the loyal members within the Thunder Church.
But for these believers to die at the hands of the enemy or in the hands of their deity are two entirely different matters.
Looking at the Master of Thunder’s divine mandate, Alice’s conviction that deities are no good only grew stronger.
With a twinkle in her eyes, Alice said to Shen Sui, "Now that I’ve been granted permission, can I start extracting divinity from the Master of Thunder?"
Shen Sui chuckled, "Divinity doesn’t hold much value for us. Letting you extract it from Baris was to ease her pain. But since it is being offered, there’s no harm in taking it, though I won’t seal it to avoid the Master of Thunder noticing any anomalies."
"Got it!" Alice nodded obediently, but seemed to have more to say.
Noticing Alice’s hesitant expression, Shen Sui smiled warmly, "Don’t worry, I’ll arrange for you to come to my world soon."
Alice’s eyes lit up.
"However, let me be clear upfront," Shen Sui glanced at Alice, "That world is ordinary, so no starting fires, understood?"
"I won’t... start fires indiscriminately..." Alice replied bashfully, hesitatingly under Shen Sui’s gaze, "...I suppose."
With that "I suppose," Shen Sui instantly lost confidence in Alice.
However, a promise is a promise, and it will have to be fulfilled. It looks like someone will need to keep a close eye on Alice then.
"So, when exactly?" Alice asked with a cute and expectant look, hands behind her back.
Shen Sui pondered for a moment, then said, "In a few days, before you head to the next world. Take this time to catch up with Anna and the others and take a break."
After a short pause, Shen Sui continued, "But before going to that world, you’ll need to accompany me on a short trip to the buffer zone to evaluate some individuals."
Since Alice would eventually come to the real world, there were no more reservations.
Since she’s coming anyway, there’s nothing wrong with taking an extra trip to the buffer zone.
"The buffer zone!" Alice’s expression was filled with anticipation.
Though she doesn’t fully understand the rules of the game known as Life Card Duel, not understanding the rules doesn’t mean Alice doesn’t enjoy playing.
At least watching Claude play while the opponent was visibly frustrated was immensely amusing.
Even if she doesn’t understand the duel, it’s still fun to burn couples with fireballs.
Shen Sui couldn’t hear Alice’s thoughts.
If he knew that Alice saw burning couples with fireballs as a game, he would probably lose faith in her.
He might even need to give Alice a proper talking to.
After saying all this, Shen Sui waved his hand at Alice, letting her roam freely.
After working tirelessly, traversing so many worlds, it was time to give Alice a break.
Not long after Alice left, Baris’s figure appeared behind Shen Sui.
She wrapped her arms around Shen Sui’s neck.
Feeling the softness pressing against his back, Shen Sui smiled, "Just holding like this?"
"I’m still not used to it..." Baris’s voice was very pleasant.
Her voice, due to her long-standing divine position, even carried a trace of holiness that stirred a sense of defiance within Shen Sui.
Baris was likely referring to the transition between the roles of friend and lover.
In this cycle, Shen Sui and Baris indeed shared a pure friendship. Unfortunately, after Vivian unlocked the memories of the previous cycle, that pure friendship was tainted by the love from the earlier timeline.
This transition was something Baris wasn’t quite accustomed to.
Even after a thousand years had passed, she still felt guilty for having taken her best friend’s man. Baris’s high moral standards were partly to blame.
What made Baris feel even more uncomfortable was that as this guilty feeling spread through her, she actually felt a hint of excitement, which only exacerbated her guilt.
Amidst the intertwining of emotions and thoughts, Baris felt as if she was about to short-circuit.
Sensing Baris’s state behind him, Shen Sui was slightly amused and exasperated.
But, perhaps this was the charm of Baris, after all.
How could someone referred to as Mommy Baris by players ever not be lovable?
Just as Shen Sui was contemplating how to ease Baris’s internal struggle, suddenly a powerful aura erupted from Baris, indicating that her strength had increased once again.
"What happened?" Shen Sui instinctively asked.
"It seems..." Baris hesitated, "The spear Alice hurled... killed one of the Master of Thunder’s demi-gods, and its divinity transferred back to me through its power."
"Huh? Is that even possible?"
"The weapon forged from the Power of Daylight is destined to hit its target. Since the Master of Thunder repelled it with his own strength, it naturally seeks out the next suitable target."
"..."
Dang it! Without Baris’s help back then, the Lady of Daylight would have been so much harder to deal with.
