My Sniper System in a Zombie Apocalypse World

Chapter 146: Stronger Than Before

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Stronger Than Before

Jaxon leaned back slightly, processing it. “Special agents… different from the special units?”

“They are,” Natasha replied. “She said they’re coming from another safe zone. Didn’t mention how many.”

Na-rin frowned. “I’m more surprised they’re not just bombing the city.”

Natasha nodded in agreement. “I thought the same. With a threat like this, bombing would be the safest choice. Sending soldiers… even special units… it won’t be that effective.”

She paused for a moment, her eyes drifting toward the distant city.

“…And the people in charge should know that.”

A brief silence followed. Cindy looked between them, then spoke up. “Then… are you saying they’re keeping the city intact because they want something from it?”

Natasha shrugged lightly. “That’s the only reason I can think of. Either way, it’s not our problem anymore. We should head back to the safe zone.”

The others nodded in agreement. All except Jaxon.

“I want to stay a little longer.” He spoke.

All heads turned to him at once, their expressions a mix of surprise and concern.

“What are you planning this time, Jaxon?” Isabel asked, her tone trying to sound calm.

Before he could answer, Natasha’s eyes met his eyes. “We’re not leaving you here.”

Jaxon paused. He could already tell there was no point trying to convince them to leave. So he didn’t.

“It’s almost impossible to move inside the city without being noticed,” he said. “Not with how things are now.”

He gazed at the distant buildings. “But if they’re sending special agents in…” he continued, his voice steady, “then it might be our opportunity.”

Isabel narrowed her eyes slightly. “Chance for what?”

“While they draw attention, we move around the edges and gather resources.”

Their eyes widened in his words.

Na-rin was the first to speak. “You want to use them as a distraction while we loot the city?” She frowned slightly. “I don’t think it will be that easy…”

Jaxon nodded. “It won’t be. Even if we move carefully, there’s no guarantee we won’t get spotted. But…” He paused for a moment, then looked toward the city again. “It’d be a waste to leave everything behind. There are still a lot of useful things in there.”

His gaze hardened slightly. “And once those agents see what’s really inside, there’s a good chance they’ll decide to bomb the place anyway. If that happens, everything’s gone. So before that… we take what we can.”

The girls exchanged looks, silent understanding passing between them. Then they turned back to him.

“You already know we’re not leaving you here alone,” Natasha said, her tone steady.

Jaxon let out a small breath and gave a faint smile. “Yeah… I figured.” He looked at all of them. “Thanks. I appreciate it.”

Natasha shook her head lightly, but didn’t say anything more.

Soon, the group moved into action. Natasha and Na-rin began setting up a small tent, working quickly and efficiently. Cindy and Isabel handled the food, preparing something simple but enough to keep their energy up.

Jaxon stayed near the car, keeping watch over the area. Even at rest, none of them lowered their guard. Their weapons stayed within reach, ready to move at the first sign of danger.

As the others worked, Jaxon finally focused inward. A faint panel appeared before his eyes, his status window.

Jaxon let out a slow breath and closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the changes in his body.

The difference was clear. Every stat had grown three or four times over compared to when he first got the system. Strength, speed, even his reflexes, everything had improved to the point that it no longer felt human.

If anything, he was closer to those mutants now. The only difference wasn’t one of them.

Jaxon opened his eyes and looked toward the distant city. Another reason he chose to stay was simple, the rewards.

Those grasshopper-like infected gave ten coins and experience per kill. It didn’t sound like much at first, but in numbers like that, it added up fast.

The result spoke for itself. Four levels in a single day and thousands of coins.

’I can upgrade another weapon… or just buy one from the system, but first…’ He turned his head toward the others. “Na-rin, can you come here? Bring your original pistol.”

Na-rin nodded. She took the Glock 17 from Isabel and walked over, handing it to him without hesitation.

“What are you planning to do with it?” she asked, curiosity clear in her voice.

Jaxon examined the pistol briefly. “I’ll make it like the one you’ve been using.”

Her eyes widened slightly. She immediately understood what he meant. Natasha’s pistol she used earlier… it wasn’t just upgraded, it was on a completely different level, something beyond normal. And she knew it was connected to him.

“Why… would you do that for me?” Na-rin asked softly. There was warmth in her chest, but also hesitation. She lowered her gaze for a moment before adding in a quieter voice, “I’m… not part of your family.”

Jaxon heard her clearly as he shook his head and gave a small smile. “You already are.”

He stepped down from the car and walked closer to her, stopping right in front of her. Their eyes met and his smile grew a little wider. “Or… do you want me to make it official?”

Jaxon held her gaze. He had long been aware of how she saw him, the way she looked at him, the trust she placed in him, the way she stayed close without hesitation.

And frankly… he didn’t mind at all. He liked her a lot.
