Chapter 167: Necromancer’s Throne
Aurelius’ mind was occupied with thoughts regarding the Dryad Forest, as well as the complicated story between the Undead Knight and the Corrupted Dryad.
By the time his mind stopped wandering, he had already arrived at the Sol mansion and returned to his own room.
It was only when he lay down on the bed out of habit that he finally snapped out of his stupor.
He suppressed his wandering thoughts. He knew very well that the aftermath of everything that had happened had nothing to do with him.
Knowing that Professor Anna was a Rank 3 Awakener, he wasn’t worried about the incoming monster riot. Even if the situation truly got out of hand, it could be resolved without him needing to do anything.
Of course, if he had the chance, he would still choose to solve this trouble before it reached that point.
’The monsters won’t notice the decline in Mana for a short while. At the very least, it will take a few days before it becomes noticeable.’
’By then, the Beta Version will finally be over, and I’ll have time and power to deal with them.’
In fact, Aurelius already had the confidence to deal with the Rank 2 monsters in the Dryad Forest. However, killing them would only accelerate the monster riot.
To truly stop it, he would have to think of another way. Or perhaps, obtain another power.
With that in mind, Aurelius shifted his focus to what could potentially solve this issue.
The spoils he had obtained from the previous battle.
Looking at the System Inventory, which was filled to the brim with items ranging from the Undead Knight’s inheritance to the throne the skeleton had once sat upon, Aurelius rubbed his hands together in anticipation.
He had already taken a brief look at them while in the underground hall.
Due to the constraints of time and the dangerous location, however, he hadn’t been able to properly investigate them.
Now, it was time to do so.
With a thought, the grids at the edge of his vision shook.
A black light engulfed his room before finally fading away.
When the light dispersed, the item hidden behind it was revealed.
It was the throne the skeleton had once sat upon.
As Aurelius’ gaze focused on it, its description appeared.
...
[Necromancer’s Throne (Rare): A once Common Relic influenced by long-term exposure to the existence of a mysterious Necromancer. It has thus been upgraded twice. With sufficient materials and an experienced Alchemist, it may be possible to upgrade it into an Epic Relic. Due to its connection with the Necromancer, it has developed a special ability.]
[Effects: ]
[Necromancer Summon: Once per day, a being can be sacrificed to the throne. With its soul as material, a special Undead can be summoned. The summon’s strength will depend on the sacrificed soul’s strength and the user’s Luck. The summoned Undead may inherit certain characteristics of the sacrificed soul.]
...
The Necromancer’s Throne possessed only a single effect, seemingly far weaker than the Relics Aurelius had obtained in the past.
Yet in reality, that was not true.
This throne was a Rare Relic, only one rank lower than the Sea God’s Trident.
In terms of power, it was not any weaker than the Epic Relic, considering the latter was currently sealed.
’Of course, to fully unleash its potential, the Necromancer’s Throne must use sufficiently powerful souls as material.’
’Otherwise, it might as well be no better than an ordinary, mortal item.’
Aurelius knew that this was another Relic whose true value he would have to experience for himself.
A sufficiently powerful soul could produce an equally powerful Undead.
But what exactly counted as a sufficiently powerful soul? And what kind of Undead could be summoned from it?
Without actually testing it, Aurelius could only make guesses for the time being. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Knowing that this was not the time to do so, Aurelius placed the Necromancer’s Throne back into the System Inventory.
Even so, this discovery filled him with confidence.
Since this throne was a Rare Relic, would the other items in the underground hall be similar?
Unfortunately, Aurelius was soon disappointed.
Whether it was the paintings, the other pieces of furniture, or even the ornamental statues, they were merely that—ornaments.
They possessed no extraordinary power whatsoever.
Clearly, the throne itself was special.
Whether it was because of the materials used during its forging or its close connection with the Undead Knight, it was unique among the objects in the hall.
Seeing this, Aurelius shook his head and put all the trash back into the System Inventory.
Looking at the mortal items sitting there, enough in number to fill an entire mansion, Aurelius couldn’t help but feel strange.
If he wanted to establish a porter business, there would be few people who could compete with him in Nova Roma.
Suppressing these inexplicable thoughts, Aurelius’ expression gradually turned solemn.
He took out the Blood Crown and poured his Spirit into this transformed Relic.
He communicated with the familiar hidden space and, under his control, retrieved an item from inside.
Compared to the Necromancer’s Throne, this item was not smaller in the slightest.
Made of oak and surrounded by countless thick chains, it exuded a mysterious cold aura. White mist seemed to swirl around it.
Although there was no movement, the sound of a weak heartbeat could be heard from inside.
Underworld Coffin! The final "gift" the Undead Knight had given him.
Of course, if he wanted to truly obtain it and become its master, Aurelius would first have to solve the Corrupted Dryad’s situation and awaken her.
For the time being, Aurelius wasn’t planning to do so.
Despite the rich promised rewards, he felt it was better to act cautiously.
At the very least, he wasn’t planning to try and purify the Dryad before reaching Rank 3. Perhaps waiting until Rank 4 was an option.
Who knew what accident might happen if he tried it now?
Without the Undead Knight serving as insurance, Aurelius didn’t dare to take that risk.
