My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin

Chapter 507: OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!

  • Next Chapter

As the chase tore deeper into the city, more cars appeared out of nowhere, joining the front lines.

Ashley and Lucian, who were keeping close behind Marshal and Scott, glanced to either side. More vehicles were speeding alongside them.

BANG!

BANG!

Several men opened fire on Ashley, the bullets missing her by mere inches. Others targeted Lucian’s car, rounds striking the reinforced windows Gustav had already raised for protection.

"This doesn’t look good," Gustav remarked, staring out the side.

He wanted to lower the window and return fire, but the moment he did, they would have a clear shot at him.

"Where are they—"

The side mirror shattered before he could finish.

"Fuck."

Gustav twisted around, spotting several vehicles behind them. He couldn’t tell which ones belonged to their men, but the growing distance between them was obvious. Not surprising, considering Ashley and Lucian had avoided the traffic by pulling off insane stunts as though they had nine lives to spare.

When Gustav looked ahead again, he saw the cars on either side closing in.

"Master," he called.

But Lucian didn’t answer.

He remained focused on the road, his gaze fixed on Ashley as he assessed the rapidly worsening situation.

Earlier, their men had dealt with those who joined the chase from the opposing side. Now, however, most of them had fallen behind after getting trapped in traffic at the intersection.

"I’m catching up! I’m catching up!"

Rum’s frantic yelling suddenly crackled over the radio. Lucian still didn’t react, while Gustav glanced around, searching for him.

"Where the hell is he?" Gustav blurted out. "I can’t see him."

At the same time, the cars on either side closed in on Ashley.

This time, Lucian spoke.

"Ash..."

Ashley heard her husband’s voice through her earpiece. It was only a quiet call, but she caught the rising panic beneath it.

BANG!

BANG!

She swerved across the lane, one hand gripping the handlebar while the other held her pistol. They opened fire, and she shot back, shattering one vehicle’s headlight.

Another burst of gunfire erupted from her opposite side.

Lucian lowered his window slightly and fired at the other vehicle.

"Not good," he whispered, adjusting his aim before pulling the trigger again.

BANG!

The bullet tore through one of the tires. The car screeched across the neighboring lane, nearly colliding with another vehicle. However, the second car swerved around it and continued the chase.

"I’ll handle this one," Gustav declared.

He lowered his window just enough to fit the barrel of his rifle through the gap and opened fire on the vehicles beside them.

Neither of them said it aloud, but it was clear that these men were focused on Ashley. Perhaps it was because she was exposed on a motorcycle—or perhaps there was another reason entirely.

Either way, they had to cover her.

Otherwise...

"Gustav," Lucian breathed. "Deal with them—"

Before Gustav could respond, Lucian jerked the wheel, slamming the side of their vehicle into the car beside them.

As the impact forced the other car to slow down, Gustav pulled the pin from a smoke grenade with his teeth and tossed it through the gap in the other vehicle’s window.

Lucian immediately pulled away.

The other car spun violently and struck the rear of one of its companions, though the collision wasn’t enough to take either vehicle down.

Gustav lowered his window completely and thrust his rifle out, taking aim at the spinning car’s tires.

This time, he hit them.

He immediately shifted his aim toward the next car and opened fire on its windshield.

The glass cracked, but shattering it wasn’t Gustav’s objective.

He continued firing, spreading a web of fractures across the windshield and obscuring the driver’s view. Sure enough, the vehicle began to slow as the driver struggled to see through the shattered glass.

At the same time, another car surged out from behind it.

"Fuck—"

Gustav quickly pulled himself back inside and raised the window just as someone opened fire.

Bullets struck the reinforced glass. One slipped through the narrowing gap and shattered the rearview mirror.

"There’s no end to them." Gustav ground his teeth and turned to Lucian. "Master, it seems they hired more men than we expected. They just keep coming."

They had already taken down so many, yet more continued to appear.

"I doubt it," Lucian muttered, glancing at the vehicles beside him. "These aren’t men employed by the Di Carpios."

Deep lines formed across Gustav’s forehead as he studied Lucian. He didn’t ask any questions. Instead, he shifted his attention toward the cars in the neighboring lanes that were boxing Ashley in.

Now that he thought about it, this new group was far more skilled than the others. The men Marshal had hired had quickly fallen against Dominion’s forces. But this group had managed to slip past all of them.

Or rather, it felt as though they had already been waiting and had joined the chase the moment they entered this territory.

They had assumed the group belonged to the Di Carpios because they were targeting Ashley.

"Who the hell—"

Gustav cut himself off, his heart nearly leaping out of his chest as one of the cars swerved toward Ashley, nearly crushing her against its side.

Fortunately, she dodged it and accelerated, causing the vehicle to slam into the car on her opposite side.

Both cars veered away, but neither fell behind.

Instead, they separated with practiced ease, as though the collision had been nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

"We need to get him," Lucian muttered. "My gut tells me that if we don’t get him now, we never will."

More precisely, if they didn’t capture Marshal and Scott now, someone else would.

A dangerous glint flashed in Lucian’s eyes as his mind raced for a solution.

Just then, Rum’s voice exploded over the radio and through their earpieces once more.

"OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!"

A beam of light suddenly cut across the road from the side.

Lucian and Ashley both glanced toward it, catching sight of a truck bursting from another path and plowing through the trees beside the freeway.

And it was speeding straight toward Ashley.
