Chapter 128: Corpse Lord II

  • Next Chapter

Kaiser finished reading the status screen and looked at the Corpse Lord with interest.

"So it can use the abilities of the corpses it absorbs and even create different forms."

Michael looked at the creature.

"Can it absorb the Frost Trolls we just defeated?"

"Yes," Kaiser replied. "That should make it even stronger."

Kaiser then pointed toward the Frost Troll corpses scattered across the frozen battlefield.

"Go and absorb them."

The Corpse Lord slowly floated toward the nearest corpse.

As it reached the Frost Troll, its yellowish robe opened slightly, and a dark mist spread from its body.

The Frost Troll’s corpse was quickly covered by the mist before slowly disappearing into the Corpse Lord’s body.

A small amount of frost energy flowed through the creature’s body.

The Corpse Lord then moved toward another corpse and absorbed it as well.

One after another, the remaining Frost Troll corpses disappeared.

Kaiser watched the process carefully.

"Looks like it can absorb them quite quickly."

Michael nodded.

"It is certainly a strange undead."

Emilia looked at the Corpse Lord for a moment before asking, "What will happen if it absorbs stronger monsters?"

"It should gain stronger traits and abilities," Kaiser explained. "If it absorbs enough different creatures, it should also be able to create more Chimera Forms."

Kaiser then looked at the Corpse Lord again.

"Try transforming."

The Corpse Lord stopped moving.

Its body suddenly began changing.

The yellowish robe expanded as its body underneath grew much larger. Its arms became thicker, its hands transformed into large claws, and its entire body became covered in frost.

Within a few seconds, the strange ghost-like undead had transformed into a massive Frost Troll-like creature.

However, its body was different from an ordinary Frost Troll.

It retained the long yellowish robe, while parts of its body were covered in dark undead energy and layers of ice.

Kaiser checked its information again.

[Frost Troll Chimera Form activated.]

[Strength increased.]

[Vitality increased.]

[Regeneration increased.]

[Frost Troll abilities successfully integrated.]

Kaiser nodded.

"It can really use the traits it absorbed."

The Corpse Lord then changed forms again.

Its large body shrank, and its appearance became more humanoid. Its muscles became denser, while its arms and shoulders became much stronger.

Within moments, it had transformed into a powerful undead Orc.

[Frost Orc Chimera Form activated.]

[Snowlight Orc traits successfully integrated.]

[Frost Troll regeneration successfully integrated.]

[Frost Mana manipulation successfully integrated.]

Michael looked at the new form with interest.

"It can combine the abilities of different monsters."

"Exactly," Kaiser said.

He then looked toward the remaining corpses scattered across the battlefield.

"We should let it absorb more monsters later. The stronger corpses it absorbs, the more useful its Chimera Forms should become."

The Corpse Lord returned to its normal ghost-like appearance and floated quietly beside Kaiser.

Kaiser looked at it for a moment before giving another command.

"For now, stay with us. We will give you more corpses when we find them."

The Corpse Lord slowly nodded.

Michael glanced at the frozen battlefield.

"Then should we continue hunting?"

Kaiser looked toward the mountains ahead.

"Yes. We still have plenty of monsters to hunt, and Dad needs more experience."

Michael tightened his grip around the Glacial Wyvern King Greatsword.

"Alright. Let’s continue."

The group began moving deeper into the mountains while the Corpse Lord followed quietly behind them.

The group continued hunting through the mountains.

Whenever they encountered a group of monsters, Michael would take the lead and fight them himself. With every battle, he became more familiar with his new strength and the abilities he had gained from the Frost Dragon.

Emilia also continued gaining experience, although she did not actively participate in most of the fights.

Michael would weaken the monsters first and leave them barely able to fight. Emilia would then finish them off and receive the experience from the kills.

At first, she felt a little strange about fighting monsters that were already heavily injured, but Michael insisted that she keep doing it so she could level up faster.

As the hours passed, their levels continued to rise.

The Corpse Lord also followed them and absorbed the corpses left behind after their battles. Every time it absorbed a powerful monster, Kaiser could feel its undead energy becoming slightly stronger.

By the time night arrived, the group had already traveled deep into the mountains.

Michael stopped walking and opened his status screen.

His eyes widened slightly when he saw his current level.

He had finally reached Level 300.

Michael looked at his status for a few seconds before smiling.

"I’m Level 300."

Kaiser nodded.

"That means you’re ready for your Rank-Up Trial."

Michael closed his status screen and looked at Kaiser.

"Finally."

After reaching Level 300, Michael had reached the requirement for his next rank. He could now attempt the Rank-Up Trial and advance to the next stage.

Emilia also checked her status screen.

She was only a few levels away from reaching Level 300.

"You’re almost there too, Mom," Kaiser said.

Emilia nodded.

"I should be able to reach it soon."

She looked toward the mountain ahead.

"Although I didn’t really fight much today."

Michael laughed.

"That’s because I killed most of the monsters first."

"Exactly," Emilia replied.

Whenever Michael encountered a group of monsters, he would fight them until they were heavily injured. Once they were close to death, he would leave the remaining monsters for Emilia.

Emilia would then finish them off and receive the experience.

Because of this, she had still gained a large amount of experience despite not taking part in most of the battles from the beginning.

Kaiser looked at her status.

"At this rate, you only need a few more levels."

Emilia nodded.

"Then I’ll continue tomorrow."

Michael looked at Kaiser.

"What about my Rank-Up Trial?"

"We’ll prepare for it first," Kaiser replied. "There’s no need to rush."

Michael nodded.

"Alright."

The group then decided to stop for the night.

Kaiser looked around the snowy mountains before summoning several undead to guard the area.

The Death Knights spread out around their temporary camp while the Corpse Lord stayed nearby.

Michael sat down and looked at his Glacial Wyvern King Greatsword.

After fighting for an entire day, he could feel that his control over his new abilities had improved considerably.

He had started the day struggling to remember his old fighting style, but after countless battles, his movements had become much more natural.

Michael smiled as he looked at the greatsword.

"I think I’m finally getting used to this body again."

Kaiser nodded.

"You’ve improved a lot today."

Michael looked toward the dark mountains.

"Tomorrow, I’ll reach the next rank."

Kaiser smiled.

"Yes. And once Mom reaches Level 300, both of you can attempt your Rank-Up Trials."

Emilia smiled as she looked at her status screen again.

"Then let’s finish leveling up tomorrow."

The group settled down for the night while the undead continued guarding the surrounding area.

The next morning, they would continue hunting until Emilia reached Level 300, after which Michael would begin preparing for his Rank-Up Trial.

The next morning, Kaiser and the others woke up early and continued their hunt.

They moved deeper into the mountains and soon found another group of monsters.

Michael immediately took the lead and charged toward them.

The Frost Trolls and Frost Goblins rushed toward him, but Michael was now much more comfortable with his abilities. He activated Frost Overlord and began fighting them with his Glacial Wyvern King Greatsword.

His movements were smoother than the previous day, and he was able to defeat the monsters much faster.

Whenever a monster was close to death, Michael would leave it for Emilia.

Emilia would then finish it with a simple attack and gain the experience.

They continued this process throughout the morning.

After several battles, Emilia suddenly stopped.

A familiar notification appeared in front of her.

[You have reached Level 300.]

Emilia looked at the notification for a moment before smiling.

"I reached Level 300."

Michael looked at her and smiled.

"Finally."

Kaiser also nodded.

"Good. Now both of you can take your Rank-Up Trials."

Emilia closed her status screen and looked at Kaiser.

"When should we take the trial?"

"We can return to Winter Hold City first," Kaiser replied. "There is no reason to stay in the mountains after reaching our goal."

Michael nodded.

"That sounds good."

Before leaving, Kaiser looked toward the battlefield.

There were still many monster corpses scattered across the snow.

He looked at the Corpse Lord.

"You can absorb the corpses."

The Corpse Lord immediately floated toward the corpses and began absorbing them.

One corpse after another disappeared into its body.

Kaiser watched for a while and noticed that the Corpse Lord’s undead energy was increasing again.

"It has already become much stronger after absorbing the Frost Trolls."

Michael looked at the strange undead.

"Can it absorb all of these?"

"Yes," Kaiser replied. "It can store them inside its Corpse Core and use their traits later."

The Corpse Lord continued absorbing the remaining corpses until there were none left.

Once it finished, it returned to Kaiser’s side.

"Alright," Kaiser said. "Let’s head back."

The group began walking toward Winter Hold City.

Michael carried his Glacial Wyvern King Greatsword on his back while Emilia walked beside him.

Kaiser walked in front with the Corpse Lord following behind him.

As they traveled, Michael looked at his status screen again.

He was now Level 300 and ready for his Rank-Up Trial.

He had also become much more familiar with the power of the Frost Dragon.

Michael smiled.

"I wonder what kind of trial I’ll get."

Kaiser glanced back at him.

"We’ll find out once you register for it."

Michael nodded.

"Then I’ll take it as soon as we return to the city."

Emilia smiled.

"I’ll do the same."

The group continued their journey toward Winter Hold City.

After spending several days in the mountains, they had finally completed their goal.

Michael had reached Level 300, and Emilia had reached the same level.

Now, the next step was to complete their Rank-Up Trials.
