Chapter 93: Chapter 92: Corrupting Consciousness Invades, Believers Evolve
Three days later, Su Chen finished packing. Sun Tai drove him in a Hovercar to the area near the central city spaceport.
The open area, which normally echoed with the sound of the wind, was now filled with people. On the perimeter stood the Inspector Guard, on duty. The city’s upper echelon had come to see the spectacle, along with their descendants and the talents handpicked from Southwind Academy.
There were only three spots available to enter the Judicial Court.
But Ying Feng had more than just the Judicial Court; it also had the Engraving Institute, the Craftsmanship Department, the Emergency Training Academy, and various other research institutions.
However, those who came from these other places could never hope to attain positions like City Lord or minister of a major institution, though becoming mid-level management was certainly possible.
Therefore, a good ten to twenty people were heading to Ying Feng this time. At Yuan Chenyang’s request, Yang Yan simply agreed to take them all.
In the center of the area sat a spaceship. Its dark silver hull gleamed with a cold, spectral light in the afterglow of the artificial sun. The surface of its streamlined body was etched with some kind of engraving, and the gangway ramp was already lowered.
CLANG—A transport forklift carried a metal container onto the spaceship. Inside was the Black Tuo Statue, and Su Chen instinctively shied away from it.
Following that was everyone’s luggage. Su Chen saw his own bags; he had originally packed just one small case with some clothes, but now there was an additional metal container that was half his height.
He couldn’t help but look toward Yuan Chenyang in the distance, who gave him an imperceptible nod.
“Junior Brother Su…” Zhang Hongbo walked over, looking as if he had been waiting for some time. Behind him followed Zhang Hengyu, whose excitement was plain to see, and Zhang Yunqing, who wore a complex expression.
“Senior Brother…” Su Chen was also a bit speechless. He was now of the same generation as Zhang Hongbo, so calling the other man “Senior Brother” felt truly strange.
They had met a few times recently, and the man had insisted on Su Chen addressing him this way.
“Call him Junior Master…” Zhang Hongbo said, turning his head with a wide smile.
“Junior Master Su…” Zhang Hengyu was somewhat embarrassed.
“Junior… Master Su…” Zhang Yunqing, needless to say, was even more uncomfortable, and she felt a surge of annoyance toward Zhang Hongbo.
“Once you’re in Ying Feng, I hope you’ll look after these two good-for-nothing children of mine, Junior Brother,” Zhang Hongbo said sincerely. “If they’re inconsiderate in any way, feel free to discipline them on my behalf.”
Zhang Yunqing stared wide-eyed at her father. ’What is he even saying?’
Jiang Rong had just walked over when he heard Zhang Hongbo’s words. He was utterly speechless and, in the end, could only manage to call out, “Younger Brother Su.”
’It’s a mess. A total mess. This is all so damn confusing.’
Su Chen replied helplessly, “Minister Jiang…”
’So this is Jiang He’s father.’ This was the first time he had met him.
Further away, the other young people frequently glanced in their direction. Some of them had met Su Chen at that banquet, and now their minds were racing with a myriad of thoughts.
The fathers of some of them could only stand at the periphery of the small group centered around Su Chen.
“Is Elder Xia really not returning with you?” Yuan Chenyang was talking with Yang Yan as he handed over a metal case.
“Elder Xia has other matters to attend to,” Yang Yan said vaguely. He took the case and opened it. Inside was the Holy Word Stone, along with a stack of decryption files.
Yuan Chenyang hesitated. “The journey… there shouldn’t be any problems, right?”
“Don’t worry,” Yang Yan said, slightly displeased. “We’re taking the official route. Ying Feng sends people to clear it twice a year, and Elder Xia cleared it an extra time on his way here.”
“And even if some foolhardy Mutant Species show up, I can handle them.”
“I’m just asking,” Yuan Chenyang explained, looking first at Su Chen, then at Bai Fengxi.
It was no exaggeration to say that those two were everything to him—his entire fortune and future.
“You’ve only decrypted 30%?” Yang Yan frowned as he flipped through the files.
Yuan Chenyang shook his head. “What resources do we have here? We don’t even have a single proper Translator. It’s a miracle we’ve decrypted this much.”
He then added a reminder, “Once the decryption is complete, don’t forget to send a copy to us in Southwind.”
Yang Yan closed the case and handed it to Gu Bing. “You can ask the Translation Department for it yourself. I have no desire to deal with that bunch.”
Everyone began boarding the ship one after another. To Su Chen’s surprise, Zhang Hongbo also got on board.
“I’m heading to the relic site for a rotation. It’s on the way,” Zhang Hongbo explained.
“The relic site…” Su Chen said in understanding. He was quite curious about it.
Zhang Hongbo noticed his curiosity and explained, “It’s not something you all can explore yet. According to preliminary estimates, it’s a Tier Four relic site, possibly even Tier Five. Once the initial period of upheaval passes, Ying Feng will send people over.”
He further clarified that the classification of relic sites was simple and crude: a site was classified by the highest tier of danger found within it.
Su Chen couldn’t help but frown. “Tier Four, or even Tier Five… Can Southwind handle that?”
Zhang Hongbo shook his head. “It’s fine as long as we don’t explore too deeply. After a relic site appears, there’s a period of instability. Some creatures from the site might rush out during this time, but most of them aren’t dangerous.”
Before boarding the spaceship, Su Chen saw Hu Xiang standing at the edge of the crowd. He seemed to want to push his way forward but was hesitant.
Su Chen nodded at him, signaling that he remembered about the Fog Nightmare Pearl. Hu Xiang’s expression relaxed, and from a great distance, he gave Su Chen a deep bow.
Gu Bing had already arranged their rooms. This wasn’t a dedicated transport vessel, so there weren’t many rooms on board.
Most were assigned to rooms of two or three people. Only Yang Yan, Gu Bing, Su Chen, and Bai Fengxi received their own private rooms.
As for the temporary passenger, Zhang Hongbo, he didn’t need to sleep. It was only a few days’ journey, after all.
VMMMM—
The cabin door closed. The thrusters at the rear of the spaceship erupted in a pale violet glow, and the anti-gravity device released visible gravitational waves that kicked up the surrounding dust.
Yuan Chenyang couldn’t help but narrow his eyes as he watched the spaceship ascend into the mist and gradually disappear.
