Chapter 50: Delicious Soul? Black Tuo’s Attention
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Delicious Soul? Black Tuo’s Attention
“A refugee?” Zhang Hengyu was surprised. “Didn’t you say refugees can’t enter the Judicial Court?”
“It’s not that they can’t get in.” Zhang Yunqing looked agitated. “It’s just that their status has limitations. Take this Sixth Judge, for example. With his strength and accomplishments, if it weren’t for his refugee status, he would have become the Chief Judge long ago.”
“Besides, his tyrannical personality is likely related to his experience as a refugee. He sees us as the exploiting class, and when he’s on a mission, he’s quick to kill the local higher-ups.”
“If his parents hadn’t been killed by the Deceitful God Sect, he might very well have defected to them.”
At this, she looked at her younger brother again. “This Judge likes to take exceptionally talented individuals as his students. It’s a good thing you only have a Silver Talent.”
Zhang Hengyu fell silent.
“Don’t tell Father about this. At least, it can’t come from us,” Zhang Yunqing added as a warning.
Zhang Hengyu nodded quickly in response to this clear directive.
…
’To think it’s come to this…’ Zhou Xian stood by the window, a muscle in his cheek twitching.
The entire room was bone-chillingly cold. Behind him, the nearly rigid corpse of Zhou Zhong lay on a metal platform.
Although Yuan Chenyang had been transferred, his sense of crisis had not diminished in the slightest. Zhang Hongbo was an even more troublesome problem than Yuan Chenyang.
’Fortunately, the man always seeks stability. Perhaps I still have a sliver of a chance.’
“The Holy Word Stone is lost, the Space Crystal is lost, and one of the two Sacred Artifacts has even become an empty shell…” A long sigh suddenly came from behind him.
Zhou Xian’s pupils constricted. He spun around, and his expression became even more horrified. The one speaking was his son—the one with half his skull shattered?
“Who are you?” Zhou Xian demanded in a low voice.
“You already know the answer in your heart. Why bother asking?” the other party said calmly.
“Priest Black Tuo.” Zhou Xian’s expression was grim. He knew this was the person who had been in contact with him. “Are you here to hold me accountable?”
“No…” Zhou Zhong’s body shook its head stiffly. “The great Sovereign is very sympathetic to the pain of you losing your son. He has given you a chance to atone for your failures.”
Zhou Xian silently clenched his fists. ’I hesitated the first time I made contact with them,’ he thought. ’Now, there’s no chance of escape.’
Zhou Zhong’s mouth opened and closed ceaselessly, making Zhou Xian’s stomach churn. “When the great Sovereign happened to cast his gaze here, he discovered a truly delicious, delectable soul. You need to find him.”
“A Delicious Soul?” Zhou Xian was confused, then suddenly asked, “Do you know why the Deceitful Artifact is empty?”
“Because the corrosion failed,” the Priest did not hide. “That Delicious Soul has extremely strong resistance.”
’Corrosion failed?’
Zhou Xian’s heart pounded violently. A name suddenly surfaced—Yuan Chenyang!
’He has that kind of power?’
The Priest’s voice seemed to come from a much more distant place. “You don’t need to worry about other matters. As long as you find him, the great Sovereign will grant you one small wish. For example… bringing your son back to life.”
A sharp glint flashed in Zhou Xian’s eyes. Yuan Chenyang’s name was on the tip of his tongue, but the Priest immediately added:
“But you only have one chance. Even I cannot be certain if this target is the one the Sovereign needs. If you offer up the wrong person during the sacrifice, the great Sovereign will be enraged, and both you and I will die.”
He swallowed Yuan Chenyang’s name back down. Zhou Xian stared at his son’s body and nodded heavily. “I understand.”
Seeing Zhou Zhong’s body lie down again, Zhou Xian’s expression shifted. ’Yuan Chenyang is already gone. If I want to figure this out, I’ll have to start with someone else.’
…
The next day, Yuan Chenyang left his loyal Inspectorate and went to stand guard at the ruins.
According to Fatty Sun, who came to deliver his Potion later that day, Zhou Xian had fought hard in a council meeting to take temporary control of the Inspectorate, but was rejected by Zhang Hongbo.
“Thank goodness it wasn’t him…” Fatty Sun said with lingering fear. “Everyone knows he thinks you stood by and did nothing, letting his son die. If he really took over the Inspectorate, none of us would have an easy time.”
“Besides, he still hasn’t cleared himself of suspicion regarding the Deceitful God Sect. How could they let him take over?”
Fatty Sun gossiped with him for a bit; his attitude hadn’t changed at all. As he left, he offered some friendly advice, “Hey, don’t just coop yourself up in your room training all the time. It’ll mess with you after a while. You should get out for a walk every now and then.”
As Yuan Chenyang had told people, he was only being transferred for a time, not leaving for good.
“Brother Sun…” Su Chen called out to him again, asking, “Do we have any Tiered Weapons here?”
Weapons were undoubtedly a good way to increase his strength, and all he had was an iron chain.
Fatty Sun stopped and said, as if it were obvious, “We’re an enforcement agency. Of course we do.”
“If you need a Tier One Weapon, I might be able to figure something out. But Tier Two is more trouble, and you can forget about Tier Three.”
“Alright.” Su Chen was clearly disappointed. A Tier One Item wouldn’t be much of an upgrade for him.
“Can’t be helped. We can still make Tier One Weapons ourselves, but for Tier Two and Three, we have to rely on Ying Feng.” Fatty Sun’s tone shifted. “However, there are Weapon Masters on the black market you can commission, but the price is a bit…”
“Handmade?” Su Chen asked, surprised.
“More or less.” Fatty Sun nodded. “High-tier Weapons are difficult to mass-produce. They basically have to be handmade.”
“What kind of Profession does it require?” Su Chen couldn’t help but ask.
“Listen, my friend, you’ve got to specialize,” Fatty Sun advised. “That kind of Profession is a real time and energy sink.”
Su Chen said he was just curious, so Fatty Sun relented. “The vast majority of Weapon Masters have [Engineering Apprentice] as their Tier One Profession.”
“Is that the one my mentor gave me?” Su Chen’s expression was odd.
“Yep.” Fatty Sun nodded. “The requirements to take on the Profession aren’t difficult, but it’s just the foundation.”
“As for the Tier Two advancement Professions, I’m not too clear on those.”
Fatty Sun couldn’t get his hands on Tier Two Professions, and even Old Yuan would have to go through a process.
This matter wasn’t urgent. After seeing Fatty Sun off, Su Chen skillfully downed a vial of Black Flame and Spirit Light Potion.
Spirit Light was also a Tier One Potion, but of better quality. Perhaps because he was being rotated out, Old Yuan had obtained it easily.
A searing flame burned through his body, and his mind became highly active. Su Chen walked into the Gravity Chamber and began to train with great effort.
…
Not long after Yuan Chenyang left, Zhang Hongbo came to the Inspectorate—which was not so loyal to him—and called a meeting of all personnel at the Section Chief level and above.
The meeting was quite simple, mostly about stabilizing morale, rallying the investigators, and having everyone get back to their duties.
“Um, Section Chief Sun… stay behind for a moment.”
After the meeting adjourned, Fatty Sun, who was mixed in with the crowd, was called to stay.
GULP!
Fatty Sun’s throat bobbed. Under the puzzled gazes of the others, he turned around and plastered on a smile that resembled a blooming chrysanthemum. “City Lord, you called for me?”
