Chapter 46: Southwind City is Doomed! [Path of the Hunter]
Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Southwind City is Doomed! [Path of the Hunter]
Yuan Chenyang snatched his hand back as if shocked, and a thoughtful look appeared on Su Chen’s face.
“Sun Tai, take your men and leave for now, but don’t go far.” His expression was tense as he said in a low voice, “Don’t contact the outside world, and warn everyone in this building not to go out or reveal their identities.”
“Yes, sir!”
Fatty Sun couldn’t help but glance at the Shadow-avoiding Robe, feeling a sense of unease. He then left with Zhao Xiong and the others.
“…How did you kill him?” Yuan Chenyang carefully lifted the Shadow-avoiding Robe. His expression grew even more solemn after the metal box was fully revealed.
“First starvation, then poison,” Su Chen said succinctly. He had now graduated from seeking personal revenge to eliminating a public menace, so he was naturally confident and righteous.
“You knew something was wrong with him for a while?” Yuan Chenyang knew this kid was cunning, so he added, “I want the truth.”
“No evidence,” Su Chen said honestly. ’If I had evidence, he would have been severely tortured in the Inspectorate long ago.’
Yuan Chenyang shook his head. “If you hadn’t found this thing, you wouldn’t have notified me, would you?”
Su Chen mused, “On the surface, there shouldn’t be any problems. Jiang He has already divorced him.”
’If I hadn’t found this thing, I naturally wouldn’t have notified Yuan Chenyang. But so what if someone suspects I’m connected to Qi Chuan’s death?’
Yuan Chenyang pondered for a moment before asking, “Whose man do you suspect he was?”
Su Chen answered without hesitation, “Zhou Xian.”
Yuan Chenyang wasn’t surprised. He carefully lifted the Shadow-avoiding Robe. A flash of golden light appeared out of thin air and blasted the metal box, and he immediately shot backward.
Even Su Chen felt a chill, but the metal box was completely undamaged.
“Hmm?” Yuan Chenyang seemed to sense something was wrong. He cautiously walked forward, carefully reached out, and picked it up.
Then, his face suddenly turned ugly. “The Deceptive Divine Power that was parasitizing it is gone!”
Su Chen’s eyes flickered. “What Deceptive Divine Power? What is this thing?”
“This is a Deceitful Artifact, made from Meteorite Iron. The Deceitful Gods can entrust a portion of their power to it.” Yuan Chenyang turned it over and examined it, his expression growing uglier. “Large-scale Deceitful God sacrifices, summons, and blessings all require this as a medium.”
“By my reckoning, it should have been parasitized by Black Tuo’s power, but it’s empty. What in the world have they been doing in Southwind City!” A vein throbbed on Yuan Chenyang’s forehead. “We were a step too late. Southwind City is doomed! I should have turned this place upside down ages ago!”
“Er…” Su Chen started to speak, but then stopped.
“But it’s a good thing…” At this point, Yuan Chenyang showed a hint of relief. “It’s an empty shell. Otherwise, I would’ve had to eliminate a dear one for the sake of justice.”
“What do you mean?” Su Chen was curious and took the opportunity to ask.
“I’ve told you before, your Spirit Talent makes you extremely susceptible to the favor of these Ghost Gods. If Black Tuo’s power were still inside, it would have undoubtedly corrupted you.”
Yuan Chenyang explained further, “Your professional path would be cut off, and you would become a puppet of the Deceitful God, losing your mind.”
“That’s disgusting,” Su Chen said with a look of lingering fear. ’What happened to me is not going to be easy to explain.’
“Exactly…” Yuan Chenyang took the opportunity to lecture him. “The Deceitful Gods are not to be trifled with. They might grant your every wish, but it will always be in a way that brings you immense pain.”
“So you must keep your distance from these things.”
“Don’t worry,” Su Chen nodded solemnly.
“You should head back for now. I’ll handle things here.” Yuan Chenyang waved his hand dismissively.
After going downstairs, he greeted Fatty Sun. The two walked a short distance away, and Su Chen asked in a low voice, “Brother Sun, is there any convenient way to identify a Deceitful God’s Followers?”
Fatty Sun hesitated and shook his head. “As far as I know, not really. Some of them are just novice Believers with strong willpower, so you can’t tell them apart from normal people.”
“Some don’t even believe in the Deceitful God at all; they’re just driven by profit, which makes them even harder to track down. In any case, we don’t really have the means here in Southwind.”
Su Chen grew thoughtful. ’In that case, finding prey won’t be so easy.’
Waving goodbye to the others, Su Chen left.
“Imprisonment, poisoning, stalking and killing… and he gets away with it all,” Han Da said with an envious look.
“Shut up,” Fatty Sun snapped, his expression dark. “If you dare breathe a word about what happened tonight, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
…
In the room, Yuan Chenyang glanced at Qi Chuan’s body, walked to the window, opened his wristband, and called a contact.
“Old Yuan?” an aged voice came from the wristband. “What made you suddenly think to contact me?”
“Elder Jiang, Qi Chuan is dead,” Yuan Chenyang said flatly.
The wristband went silent, with only the faint crackle of static.
“How big of a deal is it?”
“Deceitful God,” Yuan Chenyang uttered two words.
Jiang Rong’s tone became hurried. “You should know this has nothing to do with me.”
Yuan Chenyang said directly, “I’ll have people keep this under wraps. Cut your ties as soon as possible.”
A long silence followed.
“Thank you,” Jiang Rong said slowly.
“Right.” Yuan Chenyang ended the call. He couldn’t help but look at Qi Chuan’s body again and murmur, “Perfect. This is a rare opportunity.”
…
“That Yuan Chenyang…” Jiang Rong’s expression shifted constantly.
“Deceitful God?” Across from him, Jiang He had already stood up, unable to contain her anger. “Is Qi Chuan out of his mind? How dare he collude with a Deceitful God?”
“Perhaps it wasn’t his choice. Once you’re targeted by a Deceitful God… sigh…” Jiang Rong sighed and pointed at Jiang He. “I told you back then not to get involved with someone who has nothing to lose. If you were really going to marry him, you should have settled down!”
“They have no attachments, but we do!”
Jiang He’s anger deflated. She looked away and sat back down.
Jiang Rong shook his head inwardly, then said, “I never expected Yuan Chenyang to notify me in advance. I really have Su Chen to thank for this.”
“Thank Su Chen?” Jiang He asked, confused.
“Su Chen must have told Yuan Chenyang everything that happened that night,” Jiang Rong said calmly.
“Back then, the academy hadn’t been robbed yet, and Black Tuo hadn’t surfaced. Qi Chuan genuinely wanted to kill you, which paradoxically removes us from the list of suspects.”
Jiang He snorted and subconsciously touched her cheek.
“Things are about to get tense,” Jiang Rong murmured. “Zhang Hongbo is away, Feng Chang is away, Zhou Xian has to avoid suspicion, and he still wants to win me over… Yuan Chenyang is making some big moves.”
…
’I wonder what this [Low-tier Deceitful God Power] actually does.’
Su Chen opened his panel and stared at the blood-red text. It looked very ominous.
The professions he had yet to take were [Gale Hunter] and [Secret Scholar].
’It says it can be used on Tier Three, but just letting it sit here won’t make it multiply. I don’t know what kind of mutation it might cause.’ Su Chen weighed the pros and cons. ’I’ll choose [Gale Hunter]. If something goes wrong, I still have the Tier Two Professions for Warrior as a backup.’
’Mental Professions are tricky to deal with, but Physical Side ones are a bit easier to manage.’
Having made up his mind, Su Chen didn’t hesitate. He used the [Low-tier Deceitful God Power] on [Gale Hunter].
On the panel, the blood-red Deceitful God’s Power transformed into strands of tangled, bloody threads that wrapped around Gale Hunter.
[Gale Hunter has been tainted by the Deceitful God’s Power and is gradually becoming frenzied. The Path of the Hunter has been unlocked: Hunt and kill three Tier Two Professionals to evolve the Professional Level to Tier Two Top.]
“The Path of the Hunter? Evolution?”
Su Chen’s expression became a mixture of emotions, but he couldn’t help but feel a surge of joy. ’Good… this is good.’
He knew from personal experience just how strong a top-tier profession was.
