Chapter 362 - 214: Surging Undercurrents (Part 2)
“Let’s go.” Lan Hao was already getting impatient.
He called the manager over, and without a glance at the bill, Lan Hao paid. He used the payment software jointly developed by the Royal Court and the Five Great Sects.
Su Chen didn’t have an account for it, and he couldn’t register for one here. He would have to wait until he was at the Bronze Sect.
Su Chen had no idea how much the meal had actually cost.
But for Lan Hao, that amount of money was probably not even worth mentioning.
They left the restaurant and returned to the Flying Device.
Lan Hao’s tense nerves relaxed a bit. He couldn’t help but be surprised that no one had attacked them again.
’Are these guys from the Balance Dao Central Hub really this restrained?’
“Let’s go back now.” Lan Hao had no intention of asking for Su Chen’s opinion.
“Hmm…” Su Chen appeared thoughtful. Lan Hao’s face darkened, and he almost lost his temper but managed to hold it back. He asked, “What is it? Is there something else?”
“Well, it’s like this…” Su Chen said, choosing his words carefully. “I was preparing to take on a special profession called Potion Manager. I was more than halfway done with the requirements when Brother Qing Cang and the rest of you arrived.”
“There are still some materials I haven’t collected.”
“Materials…” Lan Hao was silent for a moment, then gritted his teeth. “There’s no need to take on such a useless special profession. If you really want to, just wait until we get back to the Sect and have someone help you collect them.”
“Who knows what things will be like once we’re back at the Sect, and I’m not far off from completing this profession,” Su Chen said with feigned helplessness.
“I just need one more natural plant-based juice with powerful restorative properties. So, I was thinking of looking for it in the materials market here. The Balance Dao Central Hub is bound to have one.”
’So many people in a market…’ Lan Hao’s face was grim. But then he paused, hesitating. “A natural plant-based juice with powerful restorative properties… I think I know of one.”
“Oh?” Su Chen looked over in surprise.
“The juice of the Immortal Ancient Tree,” Lan Hao said.
For some reason… he thought about the two professions he had revealed on Red Thunder Star, and then about that damn Deceitful God’s Follower.
’But I’ve left Red Thunder Star now. That Deceitful God’s Follower probably won’t be able to find me in a lifetime. As for the two professions I revealed to him, it doesn’t really matter.’
’After all, even I don’t know how many special professions are needed as prerequisites for the complete Phoenix Holy Profession.’
“What’s that?” Su Chen asked blankly, though he wasn’t surprised. ’Given Lan Hao’s background as a scion from an elite family…’
’…he wouldn’t proactively learn about insignificant materials beyond what he needed for his own profession requirements.’
’The juice of the Immortal Ancient Tree was probably one of the few, if not the only, “natural plant-based juices with powerful restorative properties” that he knew of.’
’As long as I gave him the criteria, he would naturally make the connection.’
Lan Hao’s mind was wandering. Hearing Su Chen’s question, he snapped back to reality and explained:
“It’s the kind of material you need. They should sell it here. We don’t have to go. After we get back, I’ll have a guard make the trip.”
He had brought it up specifically so he wouldn’t have to make a trip to the materials market and look for it himself.
Su Chen hesitated slightly. “That juice…”
“Would I lie to you?” Lan Hao couldn’t quite hold back, his voice rising a little before he suppressed it again. He explained, “The juice of the Immortal Ancient Tree will definitely meet your requirements. In fact, it will far exceed them.”
“Alright,” Su Chen nodded, finally heading back with Lan Hao.
The moment he stepped into the hotel, Lan Hao let out a complete and genuine sigh of relief.
The two went to Qing Cang’s room. At some point, he had returned and was standing by the window, just as he had been before they left.
“Brother Qing Cang…”
“Master Qing…”
The two spoke, and Su Chen continued, “I’ve bought the Prophet’s commentary you wanted.”
“Mm,” Qing Cang turned around and nodded. “Good work. Lan Hao, you can go back first.”
“Okay.” Lan Hao was a little disappointed. Just as he was about to leave, he heard Su Chen say, “Brother Lan, don’t forget to buy plenty.”
“I won’t forget.” Lan Hao took a deep breath. He had only been with Su Chen for half a day and was already finding it unbearable.
He was only following his father’s orders; it wasn’t like he’d had a true change of heart. All sorts of suppressed emotions churned within him.
After leaving the room, he calmed down a bit and called over the guard standing by the door.
“…Go to the materials market in the Balance Dao Central Hub. Find a merchant and buy some juice of the Immortal Ancient Tree. One liter should be enough,” he ordered.
“Er…” The guard hesitated.
“I’ll reimburse you,” Lan Hao frowned.
“Well…” The guard said helplessly, “Reimbursement is something that happens after I buy it. I don’t have enough money on hand to make the purchase.”
Lan Hao’s face darkened. He transferred a sum of money to the guard, who then scurried away happily.
…
“How is he?” Qing Cang glanced at the closed door. A gentle breeze manifested, enveloping the two of them as he asked.
“I still couldn’t figure anything out,” Su Chen shook his head. “However, the movements in the Balance Dao Central Hub probably have nothing to do with him.”
Lan Hao’s anxiety and uneasiness during the trip were not faked.
“Mm,” Qing Cang nodded. “Lanhai is a smart man. He shouldn’t be causing trouble behind the scenes.”
Su Chen gave his senior brother a speechless look. ’So we’re just not going to investigate how our location on Red Thunder Star was leaked?’
He thought for a moment and said, “There’s a website called Dark Flower that has a 3 billion Star Coin bounty on me.”
“I know.” Qing Cang nodded. He brought out the hand he was holding behind his back and opened it, revealing a shimmering white Energy Light Ball rotating in his palm. Ripples undulated across its surface like waves.
Su Chen’s brows furrowed slightly. When he took a closer look, he couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath. Inside it, countless terrified figures were floating and sinking.
“Isn’t that…” In a fleeting glance, he saw a somewhat familiar face. It was the sharp-chinned, monkey-faced guy who had mistakenly entered his private room.
“Mm…” Qing Cang nodded. “Seventy-six people. These are the ones who intended to make a move on you while you were out.”
HISS— Su Chen was stunned. He had anticipated that some people might try to make a move in secret.
He even guessed that the person who had entered his room by mistake was suspicious.
But he never expected that so many people were secretly preparing to attack him.
“Is it all because of that 3 billion Star Coin bounty?” Su Chen asked with a frown.
“More than half of them are. But some of them accepted private bounties. Their Professional Tiers are not low, and some are even professional assassins.” Qing Cang’s expression flickered, and his voice grew heavy.
“Dark Flower doesn’t just have public bounties; it has private ones too. The rewards for private and public bounties can also be stacked.”
“Someone hired people to assassinate me privately?” Su Chen’s expression tightened.
Qing Cang’s expression was calm, but his eyes burned with fury. “They’re that impatient? You are the heir of Venerable Red Sun, and Master has already promised to protect you!”
’This private bounty is very strange. If they were after the Spiritual, then killing Su Chen would be useless. The Spiritual would eventually return to the Bronze Sect anyway. It would just cost some time and effort to choose another person.’
’Aside from the cumulative bounties, for someone to privately aim to kill Su Chen… there’s a high probability it’s an internal member of the Bronze Sect.’
“I thought they would have at least some reservations.” Qing Cang clenched his fist, and the Energy Sphere in his hand gradually shrank before dissipating into nothingness.
Su Chen raised an eyebrow, faintly hearing mournful cries fading away beside his ear.
Qing Cang’s anger wasn’t just on his behalf; it was because the dignity of the Bronze Ancient King had been challenged.
This senior brother of his would defend the Ancient King over a mere ambiguity in speech—his reverence was absolute. So it went without saying how he’d react to people who now ignored the Ancient King’s stance and intended to harm Su Chen.
“Who do you think it is?” Su Chen asked in a low voice.
Figures flashed through Qing Cang’s eyes, but in the end, he just shook his head. “There are too many suspects to be certain.”
Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat. ’This…’
Qing Cang also felt he had sounded too grim, so he added reassuringly, “Don’t worry. There are some methods that can only be used before you return to the Sect. You can go for now.”
Su Chen sighed to himself and could only take his leave.
’What’s done is done.’ There were many things he couldn’t influence right now.
When he left the room, he noticed the guard who had been standing in front of Qing Cang’s door was gone. The thought that he was about to take on two special professions brought him a great deal of relief.
An increase in strength was always a pleasant feeling.
