My Professions Have Too Much Personality

Chapter 230 - 148: Corpse at the Door, Fierce Warrior Teng Liang

Chapter 230: Chapter 148: Corpse at the Door, Fierce Warrior Teng Liang

’Such tight security…’ Su Chen muttered. He wasn’t afraid, anyway, so he kept looking.

A line of small text appeared on the virtual screen before him, and the panel immediately responded—

[Special Profession discovered—Faceless Ghost Follower. Can be assumed after completing the relevant profession requirements.]

[Faceless Ghost Follower: Replace someone and live their life for three days using a disguised identity and appearance.]

’It’s surprisingly simple,’ Su Chen mused. ’Someone trying to carry out an assassination or just hide could complete this requirement by accident.’

Then, they might dream of the Faceless Ghost while sleeping. After being duped by its “omnipotent” divine might, they would assume the profession.

The file on the common traits of Deceitful Gods specifically emphasized that all of them label themselves as omnipotent. In a way, they really could do such things—resurrecting loved ones, extending lifespans, and so on.

But the resurrected loved one might just stab a knife into your chest.

And an extended life might mean turning into a mindless lump of rotting flesh.

In the files he was reviewing, a warning was marked in red text at regular intervals: Never, under any circumstances, trust a promise from a Deceitful God.

’With warnings this dire, how could Wei Yinsuo still have believed it?’ he couldn’t help but wonder.

’Perhaps he had no other choice. The Deceptive Divine Power inside him could have killed him at any moment. If he didn’t want to die, his only option was to believe in that ethereal promise.’

Just as he was thinking this, the panel popped up again—

[The Faceless Ghost is intimidated by the might of the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator and dares not move. The Priest steps forward and absorbs it.]

[The Priest has obtained a new disguise option—Faceless Ghost Priest.]

The simple description highlighted how pitiful the Faceless Ghost Follower was. By the time Su Chen finished reading, it had already been picked clean.

’I can disguise myself directly as a Priest? I thought it would just be a Follower.’ Su Chen was quite surprised, but this was even better.

’If the entity controlling Meng Qi is similar to the one that was inside Wei Yinsuo, it should be able to sense me, right?’

This was his plan: obtain the method to become a Faceless Ghost Follower from the Judicial Court, and then use it to lock right onto his target.

But this was definitely not the place to try it out. Su Chen turned and left.

Teng Liang was still waiting outside. When he saw Su Chen come out, he carefully studied his expression before saying in a low voice, “The Deceitful Gods delight in deception. Don’t ever get curious about them, and certainly don’t think they’ll grant any of your wishes.”

“Don’t worry, Teng Liang.” Su Chen understood what he was worried about.

Seeing that Su Chen seemed fine, Teng Liang changed the subject. “Do you have any ideas on how to find Meng Qi?”

“We could comb through the entire Judicial Court, and we’d probably find him. Or, we could just point to a random spot on the map, and maybe we’ll get lucky,” Su Chen said with a shrug.

Teng Liang ignored the second half of Su Chen’s sentence and nodded. “A solid plan.”

He then added a warning, “Don’t take any risks yourself. That Meng Qi is no simple matter. Although he’s only a Tier Three, he has other tricks up his sleeve. An ordinary Tier Four probably wouldn’t even be his match.”

“I know.” Su Chen nodded. With a public manhunt for a named enemy like this, he certainly wasn’t going to take any unnecessary risks.

’I’ll go back, switch forms, and sense his location. Then I’ll just make up an excuse to drag Teng Liang over there and finish this.’

By now, night had completely fallen, but the entire Judicial Court was brightly lit, and patrols armed with live ammunition were everywhere on the roads.

Su Chen made an excuse about using up too much energy during his afternoon workout and said he was going back to get some nourishment.

Teng Liang naturally didn’t stop him. He even told him to get a good rest and to leave the deployment of personnel to him, clearly not wanting Su Chen to take any risks.

Su Chen first went to the Judgment Department for a Believer screening and to have his record filed.

The process was simple. A specialized Mental Professional used a certain device to test nearly a hundred people at once for any contamination by a Deceitful God.

The test was over in less than a minute.

Returning to his residence, Su Chen went to the Gravity Chamber, closed the door, and gradually concealed himself within a spatial fissure while simultaneously switching to his new Faceless Ghost Priest form.

His facial features seemed to dissolve in water, gradually fading into nothingness, but Su Chen himself felt nothing.

At the same time, several presences, some strong and some weak, emerged in all directions.

’They’ve really been cleaned out, for the most part. There are far fewer of them than what I sensed when I became a Priest of Black Tuo,’ Su Chen thought. Just as he was about to carefully distinguish between them, his expression began to change.

Because one of the presences was extremely clear, strong, and most importantly, incredibly close.

’Right outside?’ His expression became a sight to behold as he canceled the disguise.

’He was just waiting for me to get back before paying a visit. He’s targeted me. Is it because I’m Teng Liang’s junior, and he wants revenge for what Teng Liang did?’

Or was there some other reason? Su Chen immediately opened his Wristband and sent a message to Teng Liang.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

Outside the door, Meng Qi, disguised as a Judge, lowered the hand he had used to knock, his expression placid.

Everyone here probably thought he was hiding in terror. No one would have ever imagined he’d still dare to move about so openly.

Being trapped in the Judicial Court had put him in an extremely difficult situation. This body couldn’t perfectly disguise itself as others, and sooner or later, he would most likely be discovered.

’Even if I have to waste this body, I need to get some value out of it.’ The Judge he was disguised as had a calm expression. He had come looking for Su Chen not just for revenge after Teng Liang exposed his identity.

He was also extremely curious why this guy had been targeted by Black Tuo, who had even issued an order to its Believers on this planet to get him at all costs.

’Perhaps I can also use this guy to preserve my body. His status isn’t low, after all.’

As he was thinking, his expression suddenly froze. He stared at the door in front of him, shocked and uncertain. In that last moment, he had actually sensed a familiar aura from inside the villa.

Even though it was just for an instant, he was certain he hadn’t been mistaken.

’Why is there the aura of a Believer in Su Chen’s residence? Who is hiding here?’

For a moment, he was at a loss.

The sudden development left him undecided. He had been about to turn and leave to figure out the situation first.

But just then, with a CLICK, the door opened.

Su Chen looked at the Judge before him with feigned confusion. “And you are?”

Meng Qi could only proceed with his original plan. “Mr. Su Chen,” he began, “I am Luo Bin. I’ve found some clues regarding the research department.”

“Is that so…” Su Chen said thoughtfully. “Come in and tell me.”

Meng Qi hesitated for a moment but followed Su Chen inside. No matter what had just happened, preserving his body was the most important thing.

“So, what have you got?” Su Chen said, casually walking toward the refrigerator as if to get some water.

“…It’s like this. We found several lab staff who weren’t supposed to be on duty today…” As he spoke, he paced forward, his eyes fixed on Su Chen’s back, a cold glint appearing in his gaze.

“Wait…” Su Chen suddenly turned around. Meng Qi stopped in his tracks, only to see the other man cup a hand to his ear. “Did you hear that?”

“What?” Meng Qi asked, confused. The distance between them was already close enough.

But then, he did indeed hear a faint rumbling sound.

The next moment—

BOOM!

The door exploded. The heavy, solid wood panel disintegrated into splinters with a piercing crack. The blast tore through the surrounding walls, and the debris, caught in the violent gust of air, sprayed out in all directions like buckshot.

A ferocious pressure wave surged forward like a tangible sledgehammer, slamming the living room sofa and coffee table against the wall.

Amidst the storm, a thick, bronze-colored metal arm shot forward. Compressed air formed a semi-transparent shockwave around it, leaving a brief vacuum in its wake as the air on either side swirled back violently, creating milky-white vortices.

Su Chen couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. Meng Qi’s pupils contracted as he saw a familiar, massive hand pressing down on him.

BOOM!

His entire body was slammed through the floor and driven into the ground beneath, completely powerless to resist.

“Teng… Liang!”

Meng Qi roared in his heart. It was this brute again!

Amid the dust, the oppressive silhouette of a giant appeared. It was half-crouched, its shoulder having shattered most of the second-floor’s flooring. Its massive eyes were filled with cold indifference as its thick arm applied a bit more pressure.

SPLAT!

With a dull splat like a watermelon bursting, Meng Qi’s head exploded, sending red and white matter flying. His body followed, and with the sound of grinding bones, he was crushed into a pile of gore.
