Chapter 223: Chapter 145: Listening to the Sound of Shattering Faith
“See him?” Wei Yinsuo’s expression changed, and he refused flatly. “How am I supposed to see him? This place is crawling with people from the Judicial Court. One slip-up, and it won’t just be him who dies—I’ll be dead too!”
“I don’t even know if Jiang Shu Mo is still secretly watching me.”
“No one is watching you. I can feel it,” the voice in his ear insisted. “This is the second time he’s appeared. He must have sensed my presence. Since he’s come this close, he must want to meet me.”
“Can’t you two communicate remotely?” Wei Yinsuo was still reluctant. The risk of meeting under these circumstances was too high.
“I’m not giving you a choice,” the voice in his ear turned cold.
A flash of anger crossed Wei Yinsuo’s mind, quickly replaced by a wave of despair. After a moment of silence, he could only respond helplessly in his thoughts, ’I understand.’
“Xue Fei!” he yelled, his voice laced with barely suppressed anger.
The door opened immediately. Xue Fei walked out, his expression meek. “You called for me, sir?”
“What’s going on outside?” Wei Yinsuo’s voice was weak, yet still held an interrogative edge. “Why is there so much commotion?”
“It seems someone tried to stage a rescue during the execution of that Black Tuo Follower,” Xue Fei explained, then quickly added, “But don’t you worry, sir. It just sounds like a big deal. I expect it’ll be resolved quickly.”
“Judge You has already led a team over.”
“Then why are you still here?” Wei Yinsuo’s voice was cold.
“I…” Xue Fei faltered. “I’m supposed to be looking after you, sir.”
“I’m inside the Judicial Court. Who could possibly harm me?” Wei Yinsuo scolded, exasperated. “This is your moment to step up. Since there’s no real danger, why aren’t you out there making an appearance?”
’But…’ Xue Fei hesitated. ’When they say there’s no danger, they mean for a Chief Judge. Who knows if there might be some kind of accident?’
“Go, you idiot!” Wei Yinsuo’s face darkened as he coughed repeatedly.
“I’m this badly injured; I don’t know how much longer I have to live. I won’t be able to protect you for much longer. You need to start relying on yourself. You can’t let an opportunity like this pass you by.”
Xue Fei’s face twitched, and he said hurriedly, “Please don’t be angry, sir. I’ll go right away.”
“Take them all with you. They’re an eyesore,” Wei Yinsuo said coldly.
“I should at least leave one person behind to look after you,” Xue Fei hesitated.
“Leave Jiang Baorui…” Wei Yinsuo frowned, watching as Xue Fei hastily led the others away.
A moment later, Wei Yinsuo called over the one who had stayed behind. “Baorui.”
“Teacher…” A short, simple-looking young man walked in with a goofy grin.
Wei Yinsuo’s attitude was surprisingly pleasant. “Go to the cafeteria and get me a to-go order of Molten Rock Beast Heart. Make sure it’s freshly cooked.”
“Okay.” Without another word, Jiang Baorui turned and headed downstairs.
’Now, the only ones left are the small fry on the first floor of the medical wing. They’re no threat—all just Tier One and Tier Two. The other party should have a way to get past them,’ Wei Yinsuo thought.
“Worthy of a Chief Judge indeed…” the voice praised. Wei Yinsuo said nothing.
……
’They really left.’
From the spatial interstice, Su Chen watched as a grim-faced Xue Fei led three or four men out of the medical wing’s main entrance. They headed away from the Judicial Court and were out of sight in moments.
’So my guess was right after all. The thing I sensed has its own consciousness, and it wants to meet me, its Priest.’
Su Chen mused to himself. While this was a step forward for his plan, it also introduced new uncertainties.
’Even if Wei Yinsuo is severely injured, there’s no telling how much power that unknown conscious entity can exert.’
’But this is a rare opportunity. Besides, I’m a Priest of Black Tuo. I have the advantage of a planned attack against an unsuspecting target…’
’And if worse comes to worst, I still have the Divine Blood to clean things up.’
Su Chen considered his options. He had come here planning to play it by ear, and now an opportunity was right in front of him.
After a short wait, another person came out of the medical wing, seemingly heading toward the cafeteria.
’Most of the staff should be gone by now. The medical wing’s own security is lax, so it shouldn’t be a problem.’
Su Chen hesitated no longer. He emerged from the spatial interstice but remained in a state of Concealment. At the same time, he dropped his Priest Black Tuo disguise.
…
“He’s vanished again…”
In the hospital room, Wei Yinsuo listened to the voice in his ear and couldn’t help but ask, “What do you mean? He left again?”
“How can that be? Vanishing and reappearing… how does he do it?” the voice in his ear muttered. “He probably didn’t leave. No, he’s on his way.”
Hearing this, Wei Yinsuo couldn’t help but feel a flicker of doubt. “Are you sure your senses aren’t mistaken? This is the Judicial Court. Every Judge has to undergo regular screenings.”
“Besides, the traits of a Priest of Black Tuo are too distinct. How could one possibly sneak in here?”
“We both serve the same Master. There’s a natural connection. It’s impossible for me to be…” The voice paused, its pitch rising. “He’s here. Right outside the door.”
Wei Yinsuo’s expression changed. The door to the room opened and closed without a sound. He could feel that something had entered.
A figure exuding a sinister, cold aura gradually materialized. He had a signature bald head, atop which black markings intertwined to form a vertical pupil.
However, he wore a silver-gray Metal Mask that faintly distorted his features, making his face impossible to see clearly.
’This person’s build… it feels somewhat familiar…’ Wei Yinsuo felt a faint sense of deja vu, which was immediately replaced by nervousness. He couldn’t help but glance out the window. The Crimson glow was gradually receding, a sign that the incident outside was almost over.
He was terrified that Chong Jingtian would suddenly leap through the window and catch the two of them red-handed.
Su Chen looked at Wei Yinsuo on the bed, who was staring right back at him. Before Su Chen could speak, a voice emanated from Wei Yinsuo’s body:
“How can Ying Feng have two Priests? Why did I not know of this before?”
