Chapter 192 - 129: [Divine Blood Manipulation]
Chapter 192: Chapter 129: [Divine Blood Manipulation]
“Thank you…” Zhang Yunqing said, walking back in from outside the hall. She was referring to when Su Chen had thrown her out of the way during Pang Yongliang’s surprise attack.
Su Chen paid it no mind, instead turning to look at Zhou Jun, whom she had brought in. He was trembling like a leaf, his face pale, barely able to stand.
“Start talking. What… exactly is going on here?” Wu Yang’s expression was frigid as he pushed Zhou Jun’s head down, forcing him to look into the cavern.
With a tear-streaked face, Zhou Jun blubbered, “I don’t know! I don’t know! I really don’t know anything! I was just assigned to be the person in charge here. I’ve only been doing it for six months!”
“Read my memories! Read my memories…”
The procedure, normally avoided like the plague, had now become his only lifeline.
Wu Yang waved a hand, and Zhou Jun was led away again. “He probably really doesn’t know anything,” Wu Yang said with a frown.
“But a place this large… how do they get in and out?”
“Let’s wait for the teams below,” Su Chen said succinctly.
Nearly a hundred Judges entered the cavern, and a report came in just ten minutes later.
“They’ve found something that looks like a Deceitful Artifact…” Wu Yang said, having received the report. He looked up at Su Chen.
“Let’s go down and take a look.”
Su Chen immediately jumped down, and Wu Yang and the others followed close behind.
The cavern was about a hundred meters deep. Searchlights had already been set up, but the space remained dim. The grayish-brown metal coating the walls was absorbing the light.
“Twilight Ink Gold… It can block Spiritual Power and absorb most forms of detection waves…” Zhang Yunqing explained, stepping forward to touch it.
“No wonder… What an extravagant setup. This stuff isn’t cheap…” Wu Yang marveled. He glanced at Su Chen and asked tentatively, “Should we dig it up? Split it according to regulations?”
“You can handle it.” Su Chen glanced around. Passageways extended in all directions, all forged from Ink Gold. Marks appeared at regular intervals along the paths, indicating they had been checked and were clear of danger.
Along the way, they passed other Judges carrying out Black Tuo Followers.
These Black Tuo Followers had been immobilized by You Shan. A glazed, glass-like substance coated their bodies, rendering them unable to move. There weren’t many of them, only a dozen or so in total.
After just two or three minutes, the group arrived at the area from the report. It was a small, cramped room that felt crowded with just two or three people inside.
On the circular altar in the center sat three black metal boxes. Their material was nearly identical to that of the small case Su Chen had acquired when he killed Pang Xingwen.
“Boxes made with an alloy of Meteorite Iron. They can block our equipment from detecting the aura of a Deceitful God.” Wu Yang recognized them at a glance. Catching Su Chen’s movement from the corner of his eye, he cried out, “Wait!”
SNAP. Su Chen had already forced the box open. A Black Tuo Deceitful Artifact lay inside, and he reached in to take it out.
“You…” Wu Yang snatched it away, scolding him harshly. “How can you be so reckless!”
“If your Spiritual Resilience is too low, direct contact will lead to corruption!”
“It’s empty…” Su Chen said, unoffended, pointing at the Deceitful Artifact.
Wu Yang froze. Only then did he realize that the Deceitful Artifact in his hand was, in fact, empty.
“Besides, my Spiritual Resilience is more than high enough…” As he spoke, Su Chen pried open another box.
Wu Yang’s cheek twitched. He heard Su Chen frown. “This one’s empty, too?”
Wu Yang took the other Deceitful Artifact from Su Chen just as he pried open the last box. Su Chen raised an eyebrow. “Another empty one.”
“All three are empty?” Wu Yang was too surprised to lecture Su Chen on the degree of caution required when handling items related to Deceitful Gods.
He asked in astonishment, “How could this be? Don’t tell me that Priest Black Tuo used all three Deceitful Artifacts during the earlier attack?”
“Possibly. Since he was discovered here in Ying Feng, he knew he couldn’t escape. Maybe he didn’t want to leave them for us.” Su Chen’s gaze unfocused as his system panel opened.
In reality, only one of the three Deceitful Artifacts had been empty. He had just drained the other two. Two portions of [Low-tier Black Tuo Power] were now stored on his panel.
Su Chen mused to himself, ’Low-tier Deceitful God Power only affects Tier Three Professions. I wonder if I can upgrade it, or if I need to absorb power from higher-quality Deceitful Artifacts?’
“You still have to be cautious, even if they’re empty!” Wu Yang snapped back to his senses. He placed the Deceitful Artifacts back in their boxes and handed them to a nearby Judge. “Register these and place them in the evidence vault.”
He then turned to Su Chen and warned, “The methods of Deceitful Gods are impossible to predict. Never, ever let your guard down around them.”
Su Chen understood, of course. He had just seized the opportunity to absorb their power. Once they were in the vault, he would never get another chance.
He knew Wu Yang meant well, so he put on a receptive expression and nodded solemnly.
Su Chen was a Core Seed, after all, so Wu Yang didn’t press the issue. Just then, another report came in. Wu Yang relayed it, stunned. “The entire underground complex has been searched. There are no external exits.”
“No exits?” Su Chen was also surprised. “Don’t tell me they use some kind of ability to get in and out? Or could it be that this group has been sealed underground ever since this place was built, and they’re just controlling things remotely?”
“Regardless, they were clearly planning something big. It’s a good thing we discovered this place when we did,” Wu Yang said, a hint of fear still in his voice.
As they were heading out, another Judge hurried over to report. “We’ve found a partially destroyed Curse Scroll.”
“A Curse Scroll?” Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat as he asked the question.
Ying Feng kept a tight lid on all information related to Deceitful Gods, so he had almost no way to learn more through public channels.
Wu Yang, however, quickened his pace and explained, “There are very few Believers who become Priests or High Priests. Curses exist to help the other followers communicate with the Deceitful God.”
“I see…” Su Chen said, getting the gist of it. After a few more turns through the cavern, they arrived.
